1. Remove the Old Battery
Tools to use: Tool for removing battery [Image of a tool for removing battery]
- Open the case back and remove the casing ring. Some models of Cal. 4F Series watches have an antimagnetic ring. Remove it first. Then follow the steps below.
- Insert the tip of the tool between the insulator and the movement. Be sure to insert from the specified position.
- For the watch with a red plastic insulator: [Image showing insertion point for 8F Series and 4F Series with red plastic insulator]
- For the watch with a battery with a seal-type insulator: [Image showing insertion point for 8F Series and 4F Series with seal-type insulator]
- Move the tool from side to side. Do not pry the battery up. This will damage the movement. [Icon of a cross indicating incorrect action]
2. Install a New Battery
Tool to use: Battery installer [Image of battery installer rings for 8F and 4F Series]
Be sure to use a battery with a seal-type insulator attached to it.
- Remove the casing ring and red insulator (if the watch has one).
- Set the battery installer into the case. [Diagram showing battery installer placement]
- Put the edge of the battery under the installer. Line up the arrow mark precisely with the crown. [Diagram showing battery placement with arrow aligned to crown]
- Press down the battery until it clicks fixed. [Diagram showing pressing down the battery]
- Remove the installer, and set the casing ring. Set the notched portion to the crown side. [Diagrams showing casing ring placement for 8F and 4F Series]
3. Reactivate the Built-in IC
Tool to use: Tool for resetting the IC [Image of a tool for resetting IC]
Short-circuit the AC terminal and the battery using the tool. Take care not to damage the AC terminal with the tool.
- For Cal. 8F Series watches: Contact the AC terminal and the side face of the battery securely. [Diagram showing AC terminal contact for 8F Series]
- For Cal. 4F Series watches: Contact the AC terminal and the hooking portion of the battery clamp securely. [Diagram showing AC terminal contact for 4F Series]
4. Check Calendar Data – Retained?
- Pull out the crown to the first click, and push it back immediately. Lightly press down the movement with a finger to hold it in position. [Diagram showing crown operation]
- Check the movement of the second hand.
- One-second interval movement: The data is retained securely. Go to step 6.
- 5-second interval movement: The data has been erased. Go to step 5. [Image of a second hand moving in 5-second intervals]
5. Input Data
Tool to use: Tool for inputting data [Image of a tool for inputting data]
- Pull out the crown to the second click. [Diagram showing crown pulled to second click]
- To input data, contact each terminal and the side face of the battery repeatedly with the tool until the desired data is shown in the calendar frame. Take care not to damage the terminals with the tool.
Position of terminal for inputting calendar data:
- Cal. 8F Series: [Diagram showing terminals Y, M, D, AC for 8F Series]
- Cal. 4F Series: [Diagram showing terminals Y, M, D, AC for 4F Series]
Input data in the following order:
- Resetting the date dial position: Contact "Ø" and the battery to show “1”.
- Year setting: Contact "Y" and the battery to show the year numeral representing the current year. After "4", the year numeral returns to "1". See the table below for the year numerals. [Table showing year numerals]
- Month setting: Contact "M" and the battery to show the numeral for the current month. January is represented by “1”, February “2”, and so on. After “12”, the month numeral returns to “1”.
- Date setting: Contact "D" and the battery to show the current date.
3. Push the crown back in to the normal position. [Diagram showing crown pushed back in]
6. Check Calendar Data – Correct?
- Pull out the crown to the first click, and push it back immediately. Lightly press down the movement with a finger to hold it in position. [Diagram showing crown operation]
- The calendar data will be shown in the calendar frame in the order of year, month and date. Ex.) "July 12, 2006" [Diagram showing calendar display for Year, Month, Date] The year numeral for "2006" is "2", which means the second hand moves 2 times (a distance of 10 seconds).
If all the calendar data is correct: Go to step 7.
If any incorrect data is shown: Go back to step 5 to correct the data.
7. End of Replacement Work
- Close the case back. For some models of Cal. 4F Series watches, set the antimagnetic ring first before closing the case back. Set the "12" mark to the crown side. [Diagram showing case back closing and antimagnetic ring placement]
- Set the current time, checking that AM/PM is properly set. The date advances and moves back in correspondence with the movement of the hour hand.
