3.10 Using a Text Telephone

A Text Telephone (TTY) is used by individuals who are hearing or speech impaired to translate typed text to voice and vice versa. To use TTY, change the TTY mode from the default (None) to one of the following:

  • Full TTY: Translates both text to voice and voice to text. Allows typing outgoing messages and reading incoming messages.
  • Voice Carry Over (VCO): Translates incoming voice to text, allowing the user to speak directly to the caller and read translated text on the TTY screen.
  • Hearing Carry Over (HCO): Translates text typed to voice, allowing the user to type instead of speak while hearing the connected caller's voice.

Refer to the table below for key combinations to change TTY mode:

TTY ModeKey combination
None (TTY is disabled)**240#
HCO**241#
VCO**242#
Full**243#

When TTY mode is activated and both a telephone and fax machine are connected, the TTY function and its UI icon on the LCD will be prioritized over telephone/fax functions. Priority is as follows:

  1. When TTY mode is active and there are incoming/outgoing faxes, the TTY function and icon have priority.
  2. When incoming/outgoing voice calls and faxes occur simultaneously, the one that answers first has priority.
  3. When TTY mode is active and there are incoming/outgoing voice calls, the TTY function and icon have priority.
