  • Settings: Navigate to Settings → Update & security → Recovery → Advanced startup, then select Restart now.

For further instructions, consult the Windows Help and Support file.

Determining Windows Preinstallation

If your computer came with Windows, check the sales package label next to "OS". If it contains "Windows" or "WIN", it was preinstalled by Lenovo.

Compact Technology

If you uninstalled software without a significant increase in free drive space, your Windows copy might use Compact technology. Files are often stored on the Recovery Partition.

To check if Compact technology is enabled:

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Disk Management.
  2. The Disk Management program will start. If "Wim Boot" is labeled on the Windows partition, Compact technology is enabled.

Getting Help

For customer support, see "Chapter 3. Getting help and service" in the Lenovo Safety and General Information Guide.

Troubleshooting

Display Problems

  • Nothing appears on the screen: Ensure the AC power adapter is connected and plugged into a working outlet. Verify the computer is powered on. If the issue persists, service may be required.
  • White cursor on a blank screen: Restore your system using Push-button reset. If the cursor remains, service is needed.
  • Screen goes blank while the computer is on: This may be due to power management settings. Press any key to resume from sleep mode.

Sleep Problems

  • Critical low-battery error / computer turns off: The battery is low. Connect the AC power adapter.
  • Computer enters sleep mode immediately after Power-on: Ensure the battery is charged and the operating temperature is within the acceptable range (refer to the Lenovo Safety and General Information Guide). If these conditions are met, service may be required.
  • Computer does not return from sleep mode: Connect the AC power adapter and press the power button. If unresponsive, reset the computer by pressing and holding the power button for eight seconds or more. If it still does not reset, remove the AC power adapter.

Display Panel Problems

  • The screen is blank: If using AC power or battery, press F12 [Brightness Up] to increase brightness. If the power indicator blinks, press the power button to resume from sleep. If the problem continues, refer to "The screen is unreadable or distorted".
  • The screen is unreadable or distorted: Verify screen resolution, color quality, and monitor type are set correctly.
  • Incorrect characters appear on the screen: Check if the operating system and programs are installed and configured correctly. If issues persist, service may be required.

Sound Problems

  • No sound from speakers: Ensure the Mute function is off, the combo audio jack is not in use, and speakers are selected as the playback device.

Battery Problems

  • Computer shuts down before battery indicator shows empty, or operates after indicator shows empty: Recharge the battery.

Other Problems

  • Computer does not respond: To turn off, press and hold the power button for eight seconds or more. If it still does not respond, remove the AC power adapter. The computer may lock in sleep mode during communication; disable the sleep timer when on a network.
  • Connected external device does not work: Do not connect or disconnect non-USB cables while the computer is powered on, as this may cause damage. For high-power devices (e.g., external USB optical drives), use an external power adapter to ensure recognition or prevent system shutdown.
