Hinkley Ryden Vanity Light Installation Guide
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of your Hinkley Ryden vanity light.
General Instructions
Before beginning, ensure you have a clear workspace. Unpack the fixture and all glass components carefully. Review all instructions thoroughly prior to assembly.
Mounting Instructions
Drawing 1 - Mounting
Step 1: Prepare the gem strap (A) for mounting. Thread the two provided screws (B) into the back of the gull wing bracket on the gem strap (A). Ensure the holes for the screws align with the mounting holes (D) in the backplate (E).
Step 2: Mount the gem strap (A) to the junction box (J) using two screws (C), which are not provided.
Drawing 2 - Mounting Continued
Step 1: Mount the fixture by aligning the holes (D) in the backplate (E) over the screws (B) in the mounting strap (A).
Step 2: Hold the fixture against the wall. Thread the barrel knobs (F) onto the end of screw (B) that protrudes through the backplate (E). Tighten the barrel knobs against the backplate to secure the fixture to the wall.
Drawing 3 - Glass Assembly
To install the glass (Y), allow the glass to rest on the glass holder (Z).
Wiring and Grounding Instructions
Safety Warning: Read all wiring and grounding instructions (I.S. 18) and any additional directions. Turn off the power supply before installation. If new wiring is required, consult a qualified electrician or local authorities for code requirements.
Wiring Instructions - Indoor Fixtures
- Connect the positive supply wire (A) (typically black or the smooth, unmarked side of the two-conductor cord) to the positive fixture lead (B) using an appropriately sized twist-on connector.
- Connect the negative supply wire (C) (typically white or the ribbed, marked side of the two-conductor cord) to the negative fixture lead (D).
- Refer to the grounding instructions below to complete all electrical connections.
Wiring Instructions - Outdoor Fixtures
- Connect the positive supply wire (A) (typically black or the smooth, unmarked side of the two-conductor cord) to the positive fixture lead (B) using an appropriately sized twist-on connector.
- Connect the negative supply wire (C) (typically white or the ribbed, marked side of the two-conductor cord) to the negative fixture lead (D).
- Cover the open end of the connectors with silicone sealant to form a watertight seal.
- If installing a wall-mount fixture, use caulk to seal gaps between the fixture mounting plate (backplate) and the wall to prevent water from entering the outlet box. If the wall surface is lap siding, use caulk and a fixture mounting platform.
- Refer to the grounding instructions below to complete all electrical connections.
Grounding Instructions - Flush Mount Fixtures
For positive grounding in a 3-wire electrical system, fasten the fixture ground wire (E) (typically copper or green plastic coated) to the fixture mounting strap (M) with the ground screw (S). Note: Install the two mounting screws in the strap first. Any remaining tapped hole can be used for the ground screw.
Grounding Instructions - Chain Hung Fixtures
Loop the fixture ground wire (E) (typically copper or green plastic coated) under the head of the ground screw (S) on the fixture mounting strap (M). Connect the loose end of the fixture ground wire directly to the building system's ground wire using appropriately sized twist-on connectors.
Grounding Instructions - Post-Mount Fixtures
Connect the fixture ground wire (E) (typically copper or green plastic coated) to the power supply ground using an appropriately sized twist-on connector inside the post. Cover the open end of the connector with silicone sealant to form a watertight seal.
