Protim Aquatan T5 (621): Your building has been treated with Aquatan, a water-based concentrate that acts as a decorative finish and provides initial protection against mould for up to 3 months. For long-term protection and to validate your guarantee, it is essential to treat the building with a wood preserver within the first three months of assembly and thereafter according to manufacturer recommendations. Aquatan undiluted contains: boric acid, sodium hydroxide 32% solution, aqueous mixture of sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate and alcohols: 2, 4, 6-trichlorophenol.
Before You Start: Important Instructions
- Check the pack and ensure all listed parts are present.
- Gather necessary tools (not supplied): Phillips screwdriver, Stanley knife, wood saw, step ladder, and a drill with a 2mm bit.
- Ensure you have ample space and a clean, dry area for assembly.
The images used in this manual are generic and for illustration purposes only; they may vary depending on your actual product. Read and understand all instructions before attempting installation.
All buildings should be erected by two adults.
For ease of assembly, pilot drill all screw holes and ensure all screw heads are countersunk.
Timber Care: Timber is a natural material affected by weather. Swelling may occur during heavy rain, and warping during dry spells due to moisture loss. To mitigate this, spray the building with water during extended warm sunshine and shelter it from rain or snow as much as possible. Our buildings are coated with a water-based colorant for transit protection and initial mould resistance.
Temperature Effects: Winter: High Moisture = Expansion; Summer: Low Moisture = Contraction.
⚠️ CAUTION: Every effort has been made to eliminate splinters on rough timber surfaces. Wear gloves when working with or handling rough sawn timber.
Building a Base
When choosing a location for the building and its base:
- Ensure access to all sides for maintenance.
- The base must be level and built on firm ground to prevent distortion.
- Refer to diagrams for base dimensions. The base should be slightly smaller than the external building measurements so that the cladding overlaps the base, creating a water runoff.
- It is recommended that the floor be at least 25mm above the surrounding ground level to avoid flooding.
Types of Base:
- Concrete: 75mm laid on top of 75mm hard-core.
- Slabs: Laid on 50mm of sharp sand.

Step 1: Attach Hinges
Fix the T-hinges (16) onto the door (7) and door gable (2) as shown, using 30mm screws. Ensure that each hinge is fixed to the doors going through to the framing.
[Diagram illustrating T-hinges being attached to the door gable with 30mm screws. Shows 'Pre drill hole' indicator and '30mm screw' label.]
Screws required: 21x 30mm screws.
Step 2: Prepare Panels
Remove transportation blocks from the bottom of each panel before beginning assembly. Each panel should have two blocks.
[Diagram showing transportation blocks being removed from the bottom of a shed panel.]
Step 3: Position Floor
Place the floor (5) on a firm and level base. Ensure the base has suitable drainage and is free from areas where standing water can collect. Refer to the front page for base requirements.
[Diagram showing the floor panel (5) being placed on a base.]
Step 4: Secure Corner and Window Panel
Fix the corner with 3x 50mm screws as shown in the diagram. The window panel (8) can be fitted on either the left or right-hand side of the building.
[Diagram showing corner panels (2 and 3) being secured with 3x 50mm screws. Shows 'Pre drill hole' indicator and '50mm screw' label.]
Step 5: Secure Remaining Corners
Fix the corners with 3x 50mm screws as shown in the diagram. For buildings with no windows, a plain panel can be fixed here.
[Diagram showing corner panels (1, 2, 3, 4) being secured with 3x 50mm screws. Shows 'Pre drill hole' indicator and '50mm screw' label.]
Screws required: 9x 50mm screws.
Step 6: Attach Roof Panels
Fix the roof panels (6) on either side of the gables as shown in the diagram. Ensure the roof framing fits into the slots at the top of both gables. Fix the panels into position using 30mm screws from the top of the panel, straight into the rafter. Pre-drill holes to prevent splitting. Ensure the larger overhang on both panels is facing each other at the top point.
[Diagram showing roof panels (6) being attached to the gables using 30mm screws. Shows 'Pre drill hole' indicator and '30mm screw' label.]
Screws required: 22x 30mm screws.
Step 7: Apply Felt Roofing
Cut the felt (13) into two sheets measuring 2284mm. Lay them onto the building as shown in the diagram and fix using felt tacks at 100mm intervals.
[Diagram showing felt sheets being laid on the roof and secured with felt tacks. Includes 'HANDLE WITH CARE' icon.]
Materials required: 70x Felt Tacks.
Step 8: Fit Cover Trims
Fit the cover trims (11) to the front and back of the building as shown in the illustration, using 30mm screws. Trim the length of the cover trims to the required size before fitting if necessary. Pre-drill to avoid splitting.
[Diagram showing cover trims (11) being attached to the front and back of the shed using 30mm screws. Shows 'Pre drill hole' indicator and '30mm screw' label.]
Screws required: 12x 30mm screws.
Step 9: Attach Fascias
Attach the fascias (9) to the roof, leaving a slight overhang at the top. Fit the fascias over the felt and secure in place with 40mm screws as shown. Pre-drill to avoid splitting.
[Diagram showing fascias (9) being attached to the roof using 40mm screws. Shows 'Pre drill hole' indicator and '40mm screw' label.]
Screws required: 12x 40mm screws.
Step 10: Install Window Strips and Windows
Opening Window Installation:
- Place the opening window strip (10) 11mm above the window gap in the window panel (8) and fix with 3x 30mm screws.
- If you want opening windows, use the butt hinges (17) to attach the opening window strip and the opening window together. Use 30mm screws to fix the butt hinge to the Window Strip and 16mm screws to fix it to the Opening Window.
Fixed Window Installation:
- If you want to fix the opening windows as fixed windows, instead of using butt hinges, use 4x 30mm screws to attach the opening windows to the window panel as shown in the diagram.
[Diagram illustrating window strip (10) installation with 30mm screws. Further diagrams show butt hinges (17) being attached with 30mm screws to the strip and 16mm screws to the window. A separate diagram shows fixed window installation with 4x 30mm screws.]
Screws required for opening window hinges: 6x 30mm screws, 6x 16mm screws.
Screws required for fixed window: 4x 30mm screws.
Step 11: Install Rim Lock
Fig 1. (Internal view): Place the lock (14) onto the internal horizontal framing, ensuring alignment with the pre-drilled holes before fixing. Align the lock keep with the lock and fix with the screws provided with the lock. Do not overtighten the screws, otherwise the locking mechanism will not work.
Fig 2: Place the door handle bar through the lock as in the diagram. Fix the door handle onto the bar with the flat-headed grub screw.
Fig 3. (External view): Fit the door handle cover over the bar and fix with 2x 30mm screws provided. Fix the door handle onto the bar with the flat-headed grub screw as in the diagram.
[Diagrams illustrating the internal and external fitting of the rim lock (14) and door handle, showing screw locations and the flat-headed grub screw.]
Screws required: 2x 30mm screws (for handle cover), screws provided with lock.
Step 12: Fix Casement Stay
Fix the casement stay (15) to the opening window. Then, align the fixings onto the window panel frame. Ensure the casement stay fits into the fixings when closed before screwing them down using 20mm screws.
[Diagram showing the casement stay (15) being attached to the window panel frame with 20mm screws.]
Screws required: 6x 20mm screws.
Final Treatment
It is ESSENTIAL that you apply wood treatment immediately after the building has been assembled.
After Treatment: Score around the protective cover on the glazing and carefully peel the covering back.
