Warnings
WARNING: RISK OF FIRE | RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK | RISK OF BURNS
DO NOT USE THIS SWITCH TO CONTROL DEVICES OR APPLIANCES THAT MAY PRESENT A HAZARD WHEN CONTROLLED REMOTELY OR USED IN AN UNATTENDED FASHION. DO NOT USE WITH MEDICAL AND LIFE SUPPORT INSTRUMENTS.
Installation
Tools Required
Medium, standard, and Phillips head screwdrivers, wire strippers/cutters.
Steps
- Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box. VERIFY power is OFF before continuing!
- Remove the existing switch's wall plate and mounting screws. Carefully remove the existing switch from the electrical box, but leave the wires connected.
- Identify wires: There may be up to five wires connected to the existing switch. Note and label these wires to ensure correct installation of the HS-WS200+. The HS-WS200+ requires LINE, NEUTRAL, and LOAD wires for every installation.
- LINE (Hot): Black (connected to power)
- NEUTRAL: White (this wire is often tied to other neutral wires and may require a jumper to connect with the HS-WS200+)
- LOAD: Black (connected to load)
- GROUND: Green or Bare
- TRAVELER: Red/Other (only used in 3-way circuits)
- Connect wires: Disconnect the wires from the existing switch and attach them to the HS-WS200+ using the screw terminal connectors on the back.
- Strip 16 mm (5/8") insulation from each wire. All wires should be 14 AWG or larger, rated at 80°C or higher.
- Loosen each screw terminal by rotating the screw counter-clockwise a few turns.
- Insert the stripped wire into one of the two holes on the back of the switch near each screw terminal.
- Tighten the screw terminal to secure the connection. Connections should be snug. The recommended tightening torque is 12 lbf-in (14kgf-cm).
- Carefully install the wired switch back into the electrical box and reattach the trim plate.

Compatibility
The HomeSeer switch is Z-Wave certified and compatible with a wide variety of home automation hubs and controllers. While all features are fully supported by HomeSeer systems, some ADVANCED FEATURES may not be fully supported by other controllers. Consult with your controller manufacturer for compatibility details.
Z-Wave Inclusion
Inclusion/Exclusion
Add or remove the device from your Z-Wave network using a Z-Wave certified controller. The HS-WS200+ supports the latest S2 security. Refer to your controller's user guide for detailed instructions. The device can also be added/removed using the unique QR code or DSK 5-digit pin found on the product or packaging.
Procedure:
- Put your Z-Wave controller into inclusion mode. (HomeSeer users: press "Add Device" on your Z-Tool+ mobile app).
- Tap the paddle of your HomeSeer switch to begin the inclusion process. This takes a few moments. (HomeSeer users: name the switch and assign it to a location using Z-Tool+ after inclusion).
Manual Reset
Use this only if the network primary controller is lost or inoperable. Complete quickly with two hands:
- Turn switch on by tapping the top of the paddle once.
- Quickly tap the top of the paddle 3 times.
- Quickly tap the bottom of the paddle 3 times.
- If the light turns off and then on again, the switch is reset. Repeat if necessary.
Association
This product supports association group #1 for lifeline communication. Refer to your controller manual for instructions on setting the lifeline association.
Operation
The HomeSeer switch can be operated locally (manually) or remotely via a Z-Wave compatible controller or home automation system.
Local Control
- Press (tap) the top of the paddle to power the load.
- Press (tap) the bottom of the paddle to cut power to the load.
Remote Control
On/Off control is available remotely. Consult your controller manual for details.
HomeSeer Users: The switch creates three devices: a root, a central scene, and a control device. The root device manages Z-Wave settings. The central scene device can be used as a trigger for events. The control device sends on/off commands.
Advanced Features
The HS-WS200+ includes advanced features accessible with HomeSeer systems.
Multi-tap Triggering
Tapping the top or bottom of the paddle 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 times in rapid succession can trigger HomeSeer events. For example, using HS3 software, a trigger can be set to the top of the paddle being pressed 3 times (Scene 001 Key Pressed 3 Times) or the bottom of the paddle being pressed 5 times (Scene 002 Key Pressed 5 Times). Note that a single tap controls the attached load.
RGB LED Indicator
The LED indicator color can be controlled via Z-Wave commands using HS3 event actions. In normal mode, the LED reflects the on/off status using one of seven colors (red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow, white). The switch defaults to normal mode.
Example: Setting the normal mode color for all HS-WS200+ switches to Magenta.
In status mode, the LED can reflect various home statuses. For example, changing the LED of the "First Floor Kitchen Overhead Light" to blink red.
Switching Modes: The switch operates in normal mode by default. Sending a color status command enables status mode, which persists until the LED status is set to "Off". An event action can clear status from all devices, reverting them to normal mode.
Compatibility (with Non-HomeSeer Systems)
The switch's advanced features rely on Z-Wave technologies. HomeSeer systems are designed for seamless operation. For other systems, consult your manufacturer to determine compatibility levels.
Multi-tap Triggers
This feature uses the Z-Wave CENTRAL SCENE command class. It requires system support for this class and a general interrogation process for inclusion. Systems using product ID-based inclusion may require specific product support.
Instant Status
Supported via Z-Wave BINARY REPORT and CENTRAL SCENE command class. All Z-Wave certified systems should support BINARY REPORT.
RGB LED Control
Supported via Z-Wave parameter commands. HomeSeer simplifies this by providing event actions. A full parameter list is available on the next page.
S2 Security
S2 security is an advanced encryption technology. The DSK is located on the front metal yoke of the device. For information on integrations with other smart hubs, check the HomeSeer support page: https://homeseer.com/support-home/
