HomeSeer HS-WA100+ Wall Companion
Overview
The HS-WA100+ is a wired companion switch designed exclusively for remotely controlling HomeSeer wall dimmers or wall switches within 3-way, 4-way, or 5-way electrical circuits. It is not a standalone switch and cannot control an electrical load independently. For a comprehensive list of features and applications, visit HomeSeer.com/lighting.
Warning
RISK OF FIRE • RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK • RISK OF BURNS
DO NOT USE THIS SWITCH TO CONTROL ANYTHING THAT MAY PRESENT A HAZARD WHEN CONTROLLED REMOTELY OR USED IN AN UNATTENDED FASHION. DO NOT USE WITH MEDICAL AND LIFE SUPPORT INSTRUMENTS.
Installation
Tools required: medium standard and Phillips head screwdrivers, wire strippers/cutters
- Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box. VERIFY power is OFF before continuing!
- Remove the existing 3-way switch's wall plate and mounting screws. Carefully remove the existing switch from the electrical box, but leave the wires connected.
- This companion switch should only be connected to these three wires:
- NEUTRAL - White (this wire is often tied to other neutral wires and may require a jumper to connect with the HS-WA100+)
- GROUND - Green or Bare
- TRAVELER - Red/Other (only used in 3-way circuits)
- Disconnect the wires from the existing switch and attach those wires to the HS-WA100+ using the screw terminal connectors on the back with the following procedure:
- Strip 16 mm (5/8") insulation from each wire*.
- With a screwdriver, loosen each screw terminal by rotating the screw counter-clockwise a few turns until resistance is felt.
- There are two holes on the back of the switch near each screw terminal. Insert the stripped wire into one of these holes and tighten the screw terminal to secure the connection. Connections should be snug.
- Carefully install the wired switch back into the electrical box and reattach the trim plate.
Note: Up to (3) HS-WA100+ companions may be used with wall dimmers or wall switches for 3-way, 4-way, or 5-way operation.
Circuit Diagrams
3-way circuit diagram
This diagram illustrates a 3-way circuit configuration. It shows a Neutral wire, a Ground wire, and a single Traveler wire connecting a load-controlling switch (labeled HS-WD/WS100/200+) to a companion switch (labeled HS-WA100+). The electrical load is connected to the load-controlling switch. The companion switch receives Neutral, Ground, and Traveler connections.
4-way circuit diagram
This diagram illustrates a 4-way circuit configuration. It shows a Neutral wire, a Ground wire, and two Traveler wires connecting two companion switches (labeled HS-WA100+) to a load-controlling switch (labeled HS-WD/WS100/200+). The electrical load is connected to the load-controlling switch. The companion switches receive Neutral and Ground connections, and the traveler wires are routed between the switches.
Compatibility
The HS-WA100+ is specifically designed to work with HomeSeer wall dimmers (HS-WD100+, HS-WD200+) or HomeSeer wall switches (HS-WS100+, HS-WS200+) in a 3-way circuit. It is not compatible with other brands of switches and cannot control a load by itself.
Operation
Your HomeSeer switch can be operated locally (manually) using the following actions:
- Tap Top Paddle: Powers the load on.
- Tap Bottom Paddle: Powers the load off.
- Press & Hold Top or Bottom Paddle: Adjusts the dim level of the load (when paired with wall dimmers).
Advanced Features
The HS-WA100+ enables advanced features of HomeSeer wall dimmers and switches through specific operations:
Enhanced Event Triggers
- Multi-tap Triggering: Tapping the top or bottom paddle once, twice, or three times in rapid succession can be used as a trigger to launch HomeSeer events. A single tap also remotely controls the local load.
- Press & Hold Trigger: Pressing and holding the top or bottom paddle for 2 seconds can be used as a trigger to launch HomeSeer events. This action will also dim the load if connected to a wall dimmer.
Instant Status
- Instant Status Updates: Status changes to HomeSeer switches are monitored in real time by HomeSeer systems.
