Overview
The HS-WD100+ is a Z-Wave wall dimmer designed for wireless on/off and dim control of connected dimmable lighting loads. For a complete list of features and applications, visit HomeSeer.com/lighting.
Warnings
Risk of Fire, Electrical Shock, or Burns
DO NOT use this switch to control anything that may present a hazard when controlled remotely or used in an unattended fashion. DO NOT use with medical and life support instruments.
Caution
To reduce the risk of overheating and possible damage to other equipment, DO NOT install to control a receptacle, a motor-operated appliance, a fluorescent lighting fixture, or a transformer-supplied appliance.
Installation
Tools required: Medium standard and Phillips head screwdrivers, wire strippers/cutters.
- Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box. VERIFY power is OFF before continuing.
- Remove the existing switch's wall plate and mounting screws. Carefully remove the existing switch from the electrical box, but leave the wires connected.
- There may be up to five wires connected to the existing switch. Make note of these wires and label them, if necessary, to ensure correct installation of the HS-WD100+. You will need to match these wires with the corresponding screw terminals on the HS-WD100+.
- LINE (Hot): Black (connected to power)
- NEUTRAL: White (this wire is often tied to other neutral wires and may require a jumper to connect with the HS-WD100+)
- LOAD: Black (connected to load)
- GROUND: Green or Bare
- TRAVELER: Red/Other (only used in 3-way circuits)
- Disconnect the wires from the existing switch and attach them to the HS-WD100+ using the screw terminal connectors on the back. Follow this procedure:
- Strip 16 mm (5/8") insulation from each wire.
- With a screwdriver, loosen each screw terminal by rotating the screw counter-clockwise a few turns until resistance is felt.
- There are two holes on the back of the switch near each screw terminal. Insert the stripped wire into one of these holes and tighten the screw terminal to secure the connection. Connections should be snug.
*All wires should be 14 AWG or larger, rated at 80°C or higher. Tightening torque should be 12 lbf-in (14 kgf-cm).
- Carefully install the wired switch back into the electrical box and reattach the trim plate.
Wiring Diagrams
Single-pole circuit: This configuration involves a single switch controlling a light. The HS-WD100+ connects to the Line (Hot), Load, Ground, and Neutral wires. The diagram shows the Line wire connecting to the 'Line Hot' terminal, the Load wire to the 'Load' terminal, the Ground wire to the 'Ground' terminal, and the Neutral wire to the 'Neutral' terminal.
3-way circuit: This configuration involves two switches controlling a light. The HS-WD100+ connects to the Line (Hot), Load, Ground, Neutral, and Traveler wires. The diagram shows the Line wire connecting to the 'Line Hot' terminal, the Load wire to the 'Load' terminal, the Ground wire to the 'Ground' terminal, the Neutral wire to the 'Neutral' terminal, and the Traveler wire to the 'Traveler' terminal.
Compatibility
The HomeSeer switch is Z-Wave certified and compatible with a wide variety of home automation hubs and controllers. All features are fully supported by HomeSeer systems, but some advanced features may not be fully supported by other controllers. Check with your controller manufacturer for compatibility details.
Z-Wave Inclusion
Follow these steps to add your HomeSeer switch to your Z-Wave network:
- Put your Z-Wave controller into inclusion mode. Consult your controller manual if unsure. For HomeSeer users: press "Add Device" on your Z-Tool+ mobile app.
- Tap the paddle of your new HomeSeer switch to begin the inclusion process. This takes a few moments. HomeSeer users: name the switch and assign it to a location using Z-Tool+ after inclusion.
Manual Reset
Use this procedure if the network primary controller is lost or inoperable:
- Turn the switch on by tapping the top of the paddle once.
- Quickly tap the top of the paddle 3 times.
- Quickly tap the bottom of the paddle 3 times.
- If the light turns off and then on again, the switch is reset. If not, repeat the manual reset procedure.
Association
This product supports association group #1 for lifeline communication. Refer to your controller manual for instructions on setting the lifeline association.
Operation
Your HomeSeer switch can be operated locally (manually) or remotely using a Z-Wave compatible controller or home automation system.
Local Control
- Power On: Press (tap) the top of the paddle.
- Power Off: Press (tap) the bottom of the paddle.
- Dimming: Press and hold the top or bottom of the paddle to increase or decrease the dim level. The switch's white LED indicators show the relative dim level.
Remote Control
On/Off and Dim control are available remotely. Consult your controller manual for details. HomeSeer users: the switch creates three devices: a root device for Z-Wave settings, a central scene device for event triggers, and a control device for commands.
Advanced Features
The HomeSeer dimmer offers advanced features accessible with HomeSeer and other systems.
Multi-tap Triggering
Tapping the paddle 1, 2, or 3 times rapidly can trigger HomeSeer events. For example, using HomeSeer HS3 software, a trigger can be set to the top paddle press 3 times, applied to the "Central Scene" device. "Scene 001" typically refers to the top of the paddle.
Note: Pressing the top or bottom of the paddle once also controls the attached load.
Compatibility (with Non-HomeSeer Systems)
Special dimmer features use Z-Wave technologies like the CENTRAL SCENE command class. HomeSeer systems are designed for seamless operation. Other systems may provide satisfactory results depending on their support for these technologies. Consult your system manufacturer for compatibility details.
Instant Status: Supported via Z-Wave MULTILEVEL REPORT and CENTRAL SCENE command class. All Z-Wave certified systems should support MULTILEVEL REPORT.
S2 Security / SmartStart: S2 security is an advanced encryption technology. SmartStart is a pre-provisioning technology for easier inclusion with compatible controllers.
