Step 1: Measure Closet Wall
This closet organizer is designed to fit a closet wall width of 7' to 10' (2.13 m to 3.05 m). Do not attempt to exceed a total closet wall area of 10' (3.05 m).
Measure closet width. Determine your closet design based on the options below before attempting installation.
Closet Design Options
This organizer is versatile. Depending on your closet size, several configurations are possible. Locate your closet width in the diagrams below and choose your preferred design. Diagrams marked with a "*" may require cutting a 30" hang track in half (to 15"). Diagrams marked with a "#" may require cutting shelves and/or closet rods.
7' (2.13 m) Closet Width
Configuration: One 48" (1.22 m) hang track, a 6-inch (15.2 cm) gap, and one 30" (76.2 cm) hang track.
8' (2.44 m) Closet Width
Configuration: One 48" (1.22 m) hang track, one 30" (76.2 cm) track, and one 30" (76.2 cm) track cut in half to 15" (38 cm), with a 3" (7.6 cm) gap between tracks.
9' (2.74 m) Closet Width
Configuration: One 48" (1.22 m) hang track, one 30" (76.2 cm) track, and another 30" (76.2 cm) track. No gap between tracks.
10' (3.05 m) Closet Width
Configuration: One 48" (1.22 m) hang track, one 30" (76.2 cm) track, a 12" (30.5 cm) gap, and one 30" (76.2 cm) track.
Hang track hole counts: 48" track = 6 holes; 30" track = 4 holes.
Step 3: Mark Hang Track Location
This organizer fits 7' to 10' wide closets. No cutting is required for 7', 9', or 10' wide closets. For 8' wide closets, one 30" hang track needs to be cut to 15" (38 cm) with a hacksaw.
Determine the "top" and "bottom" of the hang tracks. Place the first hang track on the back wall 7' (2.13 m) from the floor to the top of the track. Place remaining hang tracks level with the first and against side walls. Use a level to ensure tracks are straight. Mark all hole locations on the wall.
Wall Mounting Considerations
Drywall: Use 1/2" (1.2 cm) drill bits for holes and 3/16" toggle and bolts.
Studs: Secure directly to studs using #12 x 2" pan head screws. Use toggles and bolts for remaining holes.
Concrete: Use 1/4" (6 mm) drill bits for holes and 1/4" anchors.
IMPORTANT: For all wall types, secure hang track to wall through ALL hole locations. For optimum performance, align every other hole (starting with the first or second hole from either end) with studs and secure with screws. For remaining holes, use toggles and bolts.
Step 4: Install Hang Track
Determine your wall type and follow the specific instructions:
- Drywall:
- Drill 1/2" (1.2 cm) holes at marked locations.
- Remove the toggle from a bolt. Insert the bolt through a hole in the hang track. Re-install the toggle onto the end of the bolt. Repeat for all toggles and bolts.
- Place the hang track against the wall at hole locations. Squeeze the toggle bolts and push them through the drilled holes. Tighten bolts to secure the hang track.
- Studs:
- Attach the hang track directly to studs using #12 x 2" pan head screws.
- Secure remaining holes with toggles and bolts.
- Concrete:
- Drill 1/4" (6 mm) holes at marked locations.
- Insert anchors into all 1/4" holes.
- Place the hang track against the wall, aligning holes with anchors.
- Secure the hang track with #12 x 2" pan head screws.
Step 5: Install Standards and Brackets
Standards are the vertical pieces that hold the shelf brackets.
- Attach standards to the hang track. Place them approximately 4" (10 cm) from each end of the hang track, and spaced approximately 18" (45.7 cm) apart. Ensure no standard is placed more than 4" (10 cm) from the end of the hang track.
- Secure each standard to the wall through the second or third hole location using one supplied screw/anchor. Drill 1/4" (6 mm) holes, insert the anchor, and attach the standard with a 2" (5 cm) screw.
- Insert shelf brackets into the standards at your desired height for each shelf. Each 4' (1.22 m) shelf requires 3 shelf brackets. Each 2' (61 cm) shelf (or cut 1' shelves) requires 2 shelf brackets. Refer to "Closet Design Options" for placement ideas.
Step 6: Install Shelves
If necessary, shelves can be cut with a hacksaw or bolt cutters in 1-inch increments. It is recommended to cut from the end that will be closest to the side walls. Do not cut where vertical spacers are located on the front lip of the shelf.
- Place shelf caps onto exposed shelf wires.
- Rest each shelf on the shelf brackets at the desired location. Pull the shelf forward, allowing the front to "drop" over the nose of the shelf brackets (the nose fits between the wires).
- Push the shelf backward so the back wire fits into the shelf bracket slots. Firmly pull the shelf forward at each bracket location to lock it into place.
Step 7: Install Closet Rods
This step covers installing the closet rods and their supports.
- Push the top of a closet rod support up from under a shelf and between the wires. Tilt the support back and snap it onto the horizontal wire. Pull the support down until it snaps onto the front horizontal wire. Never place closet rod supports more than 3' (91 cm) apart.
- Place closet rod caps onto the ends of each closet rod.
- Place the closet rod into the closet rod supports. Press down to snap it into place.
