Required Tools:
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Level
- Hacksaw or boltcutter (if cutting shelves)
- Masonry drill bit (for concrete walls)
- Hammer
Step 1: Prepare Hardware
Determine the top of each post by locating the hole closest to the end. Attach an endcap to the top of one post and the bottom of another post. Repeat for the second set of posts. Use the post connector to join the bottom of one post and the top of the other post.
Step 2: Mark Closet Wall
Measure the width of the back wall and divide by two to find the center. Mark the exact center of the wall and use a level to lightly mark a vertical line down the center. Place an assembled support post on the floor against the center line, ensuring the top hole is at the top. Mark the location of the top five holes in the post on the wall. Using a level, draw a light horizontal line from each marked hole location.
Step 3: Measure and Fit
This organizer fits a maximum closet wall width of 8 feet. No cutting is necessary for closets up to 8 feet wide. For closets less than 8 feet wide, the Shelf & Rod (long) shelf can be cut. When cutting, allow a 1-1/2 inch overhang past the post. Cut shelves in 1-inch increments using a hacksaw or boltcutter. Reposition wall clips as necessary for cut shelves, ensuring clips are no more than 11 inches apart. Mark all wall clip locations with an "x" and install clips according to wall type.
Diagrams C1 and C2 show clip placement for different shelf configurations.
Step 4: Attaching Clips to Wall
Wall type determines installation requirements for wall clips. Please read the following instructions carefully:
- Drywall and Plaster: Use supplied pins for standard drywall (1/2 in. to 5/8 in. thick). For thicker drywall/plaster, use #8 x 1 in. screws.
- Drywall (less than 1/4 in. thick): Cut rear projection and secure with a toggle bolt (not provided).
- Concrete: Use a masonry drill bit to drill 1/4 in. holes at least 1 in. deep. Use #8 x 1 in. screws (not provided).
- Paneling/Plywood: Cut rear projection and use expansion wall anchors (not provided).
- Solid Wood: Cut rear projection and use #8 x 1 in. screws (not provided).
Step 5: Install Shelves
Firmly push all shelves into the wall clips. Short shelves go into center clips, and long shelves go into clips closest to side walls. Allow shelves to hang down from clips. Locate the side wall bracket, gently lift the shelf, and fit the bracket over the front lip of the shelf against the wall.
Detailed instructions for shelf placement and securing are provided in the diagrams.
Step 6: Install Support Posts
Attach post clips to each post using 1/2 in. screws. Arrange poles as shown and attach only the indicated clips. Ensure post clip hooks face upwards. Lift each long shelf and place a support post near the end of the shelf, pushing the shelf into the post clips. For center shelves, slide a post clip through the shelf wires and secure to the post with a screw. Repeat for the second post, then push the shelf firmly into the clips.
Step 7: Install Shoe Shelf
Note: If not using the shoe shelf, it can be cut to serve as an additional center shelf. Adjust wall clip locations and attach the front of the shelf to extra post clips.
Hold the shoe shelf against the back and side wall. Mark a level line across the top. Mark wall clip locations. Install wall clips according to wall type. Install the shoe shelf into the wall clips.
Use shoe supports 2-4 inches from each end of the shelf. Hold the shoe shelf with the front lip facing up. Place the shoe support between shelf wires and rotate 90°. Ensure the support is wedged firmly. Adjust the support to hook onto the back wire of the shelf. Snap the back wire into the wall clips. Lower the front of the shelf until the shoe support leans on the back wall. Repeat for the other shoe support.
