Assembly Overview

This document provides step-by-step instructions for assembling the TONSTAD chest of drawers. Ensure you have all parts and tools before beginning. It is crucial to secure the furniture to the wall to prevent tip-over accidents.

Assembly Steps

Step 1: Attach Drawer Runners to Side Panels

Take the left and right side panels. Insert dowels (10127303) into the designated holes on the inner faces of the panels. Align the drawer runners with the dowels and pre-drilled screw holes. Secure each runner using screws (100347).

Step 2: Attach Base Panel

Take the base panel. Insert cam lock housings (190459) into the large holes on the underside of the base panel. Secure these housings by turning them clockwise until they are firmly seated. Then, insert cam locks (153552) into the corresponding holes on the base panel.

Step 3: Connect Side Panel to Base

Take one side panel (with runners attached). Align the dowels and cam lock housings on the base panel with the corresponding holes on the side panel. Insert cam locks (153552) into the holes on the side panel and turn them clockwise to lock the panels together.

Step 4: Attach Second Side Panel

Repeat Step 3 to attach the second side panel to the base panel.

Step 5: Attach Drawer Runner Supports

Attach the drawer runner support pieces to the inside of the side panels. Insert dowels (190459) into the side panels. Align the support pieces and secure them with screws (100347).

Step 6: Attach Top Panel and Wall Brackets

Place the top panel onto the assembled frame. Attach the wall mounting brackets (106989) to the top panel using screws (109049) and wall plugs (10087223) if needed for the wall type.

Step 7: Attach Second Wall Bracket

Attach the second wall mounting bracket (106989) to the top panel in the same manner using screws (109567) and wall plugs (100823).

Step 8: Insert Dowels into Main Frame

Insert dowels (100347) into the pre-drilled holes on the top edges of the side panels and back panel supports.

Step 9: Insert Dowels into Top Panel

Insert dowels (10038707) into the pre-drilled holes on the underside of the top panel.

Step 10: Connect Top Panel to Frame

Carefully place the top panel onto the assembled frame, aligning the dowels. Secure the top panel using screws (10040201) through the side panels into the top panel.

Step 11: Prepare Drawer Fronts

Prepare the drawer fronts for attachment. (Details for drawer assembly follow in later steps).

Step 12: Attach Drawer Slides to Unit

Attach the drawer slides to the inside of the main unit frame. Use screws (151705 and 151706) as indicated for the correct positioning.

Step 13: Attach Drawer Slides to Drawer Boxes

Attach the corresponding drawer slides to the sides of the assembled drawer boxes (assembly detailed later).

Step 14: Adjust Feet

Turn the unit upright. Adjust the feet at the base of the unit using the provided wrench (190459) to ensure the unit is level and stable on the floor.

Step 15: Attach Wall Mounting Hardware to Unit

Attach the wall mounting brackets (109567) to the back of the unit using screws (100823).

Step 16: Position Unit for Wall Mounting

Move the assembled unit to its final desired location against the wall.

Wall Mounting Instructions

It is essential to secure the furniture to the wall using the provided anti-tip hardware to prevent serious injury or death from tip-over. The method of attachment depends on your wall type.

Wall Type A: Solid Wall

Tools: Drill with Ø 8 mm (5/16") drill bit, Screwdriver.

1. Mark the desired height for the wall bracket on the solid wall.

2. Drill a hole with an 8 mm (5/16") drill bit to a depth of approximately 70 mm (2 3/4").

3. Insert the wall plug (e.g., 10087223 or 100823) into the drilled hole.

4. Align the wall bracket with the hole and secure it firmly to the wall using a screw (e.g., 109049 or 109567).

Wall Type B: Hollow Wall

Tools: Drill with Ø 8 mm (5/16") drill bit, Screwdriver.

1. Mark the desired height for the wall bracket on the hollow wall.

2. Drill a hole with an 8 mm (5/16") drill bit to a depth of approximately 30 mm (1 1/4").

3. Insert an appropriate hollow wall anchor (plug) (e.g., 10087223 or 100823) into the drilled hole.

4. Align the wall bracket with the anchor and secure it firmly to the wall using a screw (e.g., 109049 or 109567).

Wall Type C: Solid Wood Wall

Tools: Drill with Ø 3 mm (1/8") drill bit, Screwdriver.

1. Mark the desired height for the wall bracket on the solid wood wall.

2. Drill a pilot hole with a 3 mm (1/8") drill bit.

3. Align the wall bracket with the pilot hole and secure it directly to the wall using a screw (e.g., 109049 or 109567), without a plug.

Step 17: Secure Unit to Wall Bracket

Align the wall mounting brackets attached to the unit with the brackets secured to the wall. Connect them using the provided screws (100823).

Drawer Assembly

Step 18: Assemble Drawer Boxes

Take the drawer sides, front, and back pieces. Assemble the drawer box structure. Insert dowels (158473) into the sides. Connect the pieces using the provided hardware, including cam lock housings (158473) and cam locks (not explicitly numbered but implied by diagrams).

Step 19: Attach Drawer Runners to Drawer Boxes

Attach the drawer runners to the sides of the assembled drawer boxes, ensuring correct orientation.

Step 20: Attach Drawer Fronts

Attach the drawer fronts to the assembled drawer boxes. Use screws (145718) to secure them.

Step 21: Attach Drawer Handles/Knobs

Attach the drawer handles or knobs (119030) to the drawer fronts using the provided screws.

Step 22: Insert Drawers into Unit

Slide the assembled drawers into the main unit, aligning the runners. You should hear a 'click' when the drawers are properly seated.

Step 23: Insert Drawer Slides

Ensure the drawer slides are correctly positioned within the main unit for smooth drawer operation.

Step 24: Final Drawer Insertion

Slide the drawers into the unit. Ensure they move smoothly.

Step 25: Drawer Slide Alignment

Check the alignment of the drawer slides within the unit.

Step 26: Drawer Slide Alignment

Confirm the drawer slides are correctly positioned.

Step 27: Final Drawer Insertion

Insert the drawers into the unit, confirming they slide in smoothly.

Step 28: Final Check

Perform a final check of all drawers to ensure they open and close correctly.

Final Adjustment: The unit may have adjustable feet to ensure it sits level and stable. Adjust as needed.
