Preparing to Ride
- Ensure all components are properly secured before riding to avoid serious harm or death. All components must be torqued to the specifications in the Recommended Torque Values section, including pedals, handlebars, cranks, seat, and seatpost clamp.
- Verify the seat and stem cannot be twisted out of alignment by hand.
- Adjust the saddle height: Sit on the saddle facing forward and place the ball of your foot on the pedal at its lowest point. Your leg should be nearly straight with a slight bend at the knee. You should be able to pedal without overextending. If your hips move side-to-side, the seat is too high and needs to be lowered.
- To adjust seat height, unlatch the seatpost clamp, move the seat to the desired height, and close the clamp. [Image description: Two images showing the seatpost clamp in the open position (left) and closed position (right).]
- To adjust the seat angle, loosen the nuts on both sides of the seat, move the seat to the desired angle, and tighten the nuts. [Image description: An image showing the location of the nut used for adjusting the seat angle, indicated by a blue arrow.]
- Ensure all cables and connectors at the front of the bike are securely connected. Loose connections can affect the front light, motor inhibitor switches, LCD display, and throttle. Motor inhibitor switches cut motor power when brakes are applied. If these switches are not operational, stopping distance will increase, potentially causing injury or death.

Clasp in the open position. 2. Clasp pushed down to lock. 3. Safety pin inserted to secure the clasp.]
- Ensure your battery is fully charged before your first ride.
- If the battery is not installed, slide it into the frame and lock it. Ensure it is fully seated. Insert the key into the battery port on the frame's underbelly near the seatpost. [Image description: An image showing the battery key being inserted into the port on the underside of the frame.]
- Push the key in firmly and turn it clockwise to lock the battery and turn it ON. The keys cannot be removed in this position.
Note: Ensure the key is pushed in firmly to turn ON. The key must be in the battery and turned ON for the bike to operate. Before transporting the bike on a rack, remove the battery.
- Hold the mode button on the left handlebar until the display turns on.
- Select a pedal assist level (1-5) using the up/down arrows. Level 1 is lowest assist, Level 5 is highest. Level 0 provides no assistance.
- The right handlebar has a half-twist throttle. To use it, ensure pedal assist is above 0, then twist the throttle back to accelerate. The further you twist, the more power. When stopped, turn the display OFF to prevent accidental motor activation. Caution: Be careful not to twist the throttle unknowingly when stopped, as this could cause loss of balance and serious injury or death.
- To turn on headlights/taillights, press and hold the up arrow on the button pad. The battery must be installed and the bike unfolded for lights to work.
- Use caution to avoid engaging walk mode. It is activated by holding the down arrow and engages the motor at walking speed.
Front and Rear Lights
The Lectric XP has integrated front and rear lights. Lectric eBikes recommends using them at night or in low visibility. Hold the up button on the display control pad to turn lights on/off.
Walk Mode
Electric bikes are heavier, making walking them more strenuous. The Lectric XP has walk mode to assist. Holding the down arrow on the display control pad engages the motor at a slow walk speed. A "Walk" indicator will appear on the display. To deactivate, pull the brake levers or hold the down arrow.
Operating Safety
Before your first ride, ensure you have read and understood this manual, including how to activate pedal assist and throttle. Start slowly in a low pedal assist level in a safe area away from traffic and obstacles. Increase assist levels only when comfortable and experienced. Higher levels accelerate faster. Ride with care at all speeds. Failure to follow warnings and guidelines can lead to serious harm, injury, or death. Damage from not following instructions is not covered under warranty. Do not lean on the bike when parked with the kickstand in use, as this can stress the kickstand and cause it to fail, leading to injury.
7 Speed Gear System
The Lectric XP features a 7-speed Shimano freewheel. This allows riders to maintain a comfortable pedaling speed across different terrains. Lower gears (larger sprockets) make pedaling uphill easier, while higher gears (smaller sprockets) allow for higher speeds on flat or downhill terrain. Use the thumb shifter on the right handlebar to shift gears: press the lower button to shift up, and the top lever to shift down. [Image description: A photograph of the Shimano 7-speed shifter.]
Caution: Shifting too quickly can cause the chain to fall off, leading to loss of control and potential injury. If the chain falls off, turn the bike off before attempting to fix it.
Mechanical Disc Brakes
The Lectric XP uses mechanical disc brakes for quick stopping power. Squeeze the brake levers towards the handlebars to engage the brakes. This pulls the brake cable, closing the caliper against the rotor attached to the wheel. Squeezing harder applies more force, slowing the bike faster. The left lever controls the front brake, and the right lever controls the rear brake. Always apply the rear brake slightly before or simultaneously with the front brake. Applying only the front brake during quick stops can cause the rider to be ejected over the handlebars, resulting in serious harm, injury, or death. Apply even pressure to both brakes when slowing or stopping.
Before riding, check that the brake levers do not touch the handlebars when fully applied. If they do, adjust the barrel adjuster to increase brake cable tension. If the issue persists, consult an experienced bicycle mechanic.
Note: Disc brake rotors get hot during use and remain hot for a short period afterward due to friction. Avoid touching the rotors immediately after use.
Contact Lectric eBikes with any questions regarding safe operation.

Other Display Functions
Cruise Control
Cruise control works like in a car. To activate: hold the down arrow while twisting the throttle. The bike maintains a speed based on the throttle position when activated. For example, if the throttle is at a position for 20mph and the down arrow is held, cruise control sets to 20mph. The bike will accelerate to maintain this speed. To cruise at low speeds, slightly twist the throttle and hold the down arrow. Cruise control deactivates by pulling the brakes, which also cuts motor power.
Changing the Top Speed
The Lectric XP ships with a 20 mph maximum speed, classifying it as a Class 2 eBike. In most states, 20 mph is legal for public roads. Some states recognize 3 classes of eBikes.
Class | Pedal Assist Top Speed | Throttle Top Speed |
---|---|---|
1 | 20mph | Throttle not allowed |
2 (default) | 20 mph | 20 mph |
3 | 28 mph | 20 mph |
Important: Check your local laws and regulations regarding Class 3 eBikes before adjusting the top speed. Laws vary by location.
States recognizing 3 classes require a label indicating the eBike's class, wattage, and top speed. Your bike defaults to Class 2 with a sticker under the carry handle. If you change the top speed, remove this sticker and replace it with a Class 3 label.
To change the top speed:
- Access the settings menu by holding the up and down arrows simultaneously until "P1" appears.
- Use the "m" button to cycle through settings and the up/down arrows to adjust values.
- Go to setting "P08" and change the value from 32 to 45.
- Hold the up and down arrows simultaneously to return to the main screen.
- Hold the "m" button to power off the bike and save settings.
Congratulations! You can now reach speeds up to 28 mph. Exercise increased caution as higher speeds pose greater safety risks and may result in serious injury or death. Always wear a helmet and obey traffic laws.
Battery Capacity Display
The LCD display shows battery level via an "energy bar." As the battery depletes, tick marks disappear. The display flashes when charge is critically low. [Image description: A visual representation of the "ENERGY BAR" showing full and empty states with tick marks indicating charge levels.]
Note: The energy bar is an estimate and updates based on current battery voltage.
