Preparing to Ride

⚠️ Ensure all components are properly secured before riding, otherwise serious harm or death could occur. All components should be torqued to the manufacturer's specifications.

  • Make sure you cannot twist the seat or stem out of alignment by hand.
  • Saddle Height: Sit on the saddle facing forward and place the ball of your foot on the pedal at its lowest point. Your leg should be mostly straight with a slight bend at the knee. You should be able to pedal without overextending your leg. If your hips move side-to-side, the seat needs to be lowered. Adjust the saddle so your feet can still be placed firmly on the ground.
  • Suspension Fork Adjustment: Adjust the suspension fork for terrain and weight. The suspension affects handling. Locking out the suspension can be advantageous for some situations. The blue knob adjusts tension. Turn clockwise towards “lock” to fully lock the suspension. Turn clockwise towards “lock” to increase stiffness; counterclockwise towards “open” to make the suspension softer.
  • ⚠️ If you are over 265 lbs, you should lock out the suspension fork before riding.

  • Seat Adjustment: To adjust seat height, unlatch the seatpost clamp. Move the seat to the desired height and close the clamp. The open and closed positions of the seatpost clamp are shown below (open on left, closed on right).
  • [Description of image showing seatpost clamp in open and closed positions]
  • ⚠️ Ensure both your seatpost and handlebar stem are inserted past their minimum insertion points, indicated by markings. Failure to insert past the minimum insertion point places undue stress on components, increasing the risk of sudden failure, potentially resulting in harm, injury, or death.
  • [Description of images showing handlebar stem and seatpost with minimum insertion markings and checkmarks/crosses indicating correct/incorrect insertion]
  • Check your seatpost clamp and handlebar stem quick releases for proper torque. They should be tight enough not to twist or fall. Tighten by turning the bolt clockwise.
  • Seat Angle Adjustment: To adjust seat angle or position on rails, loosen nuts on both sides of the seat, move to desired angle/position, then tighten nuts. The nut's location is shown below.
  • [Description of image showing the underside of a saddle with an arrow pointing to a nut for adjustment]
  • Ensure all cables and connectors at the front of the bike are securely connected. This includes the front light, motor inhibitor switches, LCD display, and throttle. The motor inhibitor switches cut motor power when brakes are applied. If they are not operational, slowing down will take longer, potentially causing injury or death. Ensure any accessories do not interfere with cables and connectors when turning the handlebars.

Your First Ride

To use your electric bike:

  1. ⚠️ Read the entirety of this manual before taking your first ride, especially the Safety, Folding and Unfolding the Bike, Preparing to Ride, and Operating Safety sections.
  2. Tire Inflation: Check that the tire and tire bead are seated inside the rim. Inflate tires to the recommended pressure printed on the sidewalls. Inflate gradually in 5-10 PSI increments, checking tire bead seating. If not fully seated, deflate completely and reseat the bead before reinflating.
  3. Quick Releases: Check seatpost clamp and handlebar stem quick releases. Ensure they are tightened to the torque listed in the Recommended Torque Values section.
  4. Insertion Points: Ensure seatpost and handlebar stem are inserted past their minimum insertion points. ⚠️ Failure to insert past the minimum insertion point will place undue stress on components, increasing the risk of sudden failure potentially resulting in harm, injury, or death.
  5. Latches: Check that your frame folding latch and handlebar folding latch are locked. ⚠️ Double-check to make sure both latches are secure and locked before riding. Failure to do so may result in the bike folding while in use, potentially causing serious harm to the rider.
  6. ⚠️ Ensure your battery is fully charged before your first ride.
  7. Battery Insertion: If the battery is not already inside, slide it into the frame and lock it. Ensure it is fully inserted. Insert the key into the battery port on the underbelly of the frame near the seatpost. See the Battery section for operation details.
  8. Powering On: Push the key in firmly. Turn the keys clockwise to the ON position (keys in line with the frame). The battery is locked, and power is active. You will not be able to remove the keys in this position.
  9. Note: Make sure the key is pushed in firmly to turn to the ON position. The key must be in the battery and turned ON to operate the bike.
  10. Note: Before transporting the bike on a bike rack, remove the battery.
  11. Hold down the power button on the left handlebar until the display turns on.
  12. Pedal Assist: Select a pedal assist level using the plus and minus buttons. Level 1 is the lowest assist, Level 5 is the highest. Level 0 provides no assistance.
  13. ⚠️ Do not leave the bike in PAS levels 1-5 when not in use. This prevents accidental motor engagement.
  14. Throttle: The right handlebar has a half-twist throttle. Ensure pedal assist is above 0. Twist the throttle back slowly for desired speed and acceleration. The further you twist, the more power propels the bike. When stopped, turn the display off.
  15. Note: Exercise extreme caution using the twist throttle. When stopped with the bike turned on, be careful not to twist the throttle unknowingly, as the bike could throw you off balance and cause serious harm, injury, or death.
  16. Lights: To turn on the headlight and tail light, press and hold the plus button on the button pad. The battery must be inside the bike.
  17. ⚠️ Use caution to not engage walk mode unknowingly. This mode is engaged by holding the minus button on the display control pad and will engage the motor up to a walking speed.

Front and Rear Lights

The Lectric XP comes with fully integrated front and rear lights. Lectric eBikes strongly recommends using these lights when riding at night or in low visibility situations. To turn the lights on, hold the plus button on the display control pad until they turn on. To turn them off, repeat.

Walk Mode

Electric bikes are heavier than non-electric counterparts, making walking them more strenuous. Walk mode makes walking easier. Holding down the minus button on the display control pad engages the motor at a slow walking speed. A “Walk” indicator will appear on the display. To deactivate walk mode, pull the brake levers or press and hold the minus button. Walk mode can be toggled on/off in the settings menu.

Operating Safety

⚠️ Before riding the bike for the first time, ensure you have read and understood this manual. Make sure you understand how to turn on and activate pedal assist and throttle. When first riding, start slowly in a low level of pedal assist. Take your first ride in a safe area away from traffic and obstacles. Only increase pedal assist levels when you feel comfortable and have experience. Higher levels accelerate you to higher speeds more quickly. Take care when riding at any speed.

⚠️ Failure to adhere to warnings and guidelines in this manual can lead to serious harm, injury, or death. Damage sustained by the bike from failing to follow instructions, guidelines, and warnings is not covered under warranty.

⚠️ Do not lean on the bike when it is parked and the kickstand is in use.

7 Speed Gear System

The Lectric XP comes with a 7-speed Shimano freewheel (the cluster of sprockets on the rear wheel). This allows the rider to maintain a comfortable level of effort and pedaling speed across different terrains. In the lowest gear (largest sprocket), pedaling uphill is easier. In the highest gear (smallest sprocket), higher speeds are achievable on flat or downhill terrain. 1st gear is the lowest, 7th gear is the highest. Use the thumb shifter on the right handlebar to shift gears. Press the lower button (“+”) to shift up. Push the lever on the top of the shifter (“-”) to shift down.

[Description of image showing the Shimano 7-speed shifter with numbered gears and '+' / '-' indicators]

⚠️ Only change gears while the bike is in motion. Shifting gears at a standstill may damage the drivetrain. Do not change gears too quickly, as this could cause the chain to fall off, leading to loss of control and potential serious injury. If the chain falls off, turn the bike off before fixing it. If the motor turns on while fixing, you could sustain serious injury.

Mechanical Disc Brakes

The Lectric XP is equipped with mechanical disc brakes for quick stopping, even at high speeds. Squeezing the brake levers towards the handlebars pulls the brake cable, closing the brake caliper against the rotor attached to the bike wheels. The harder you squeeze, the more force is applied, slowing the bike faster. The left brake lever activates the front wheel brake, and the right lever activates the rear wheel brake. The right brake lever should always be applied before and while the front brake is also applied.

⚠️ If only the front brake is applied while slowing or stopping quickly, the rider may be ejected over the front handlebars, potentially resulting in serious harm, injury, or death. To avoid this, always apply even pressure to both brakes when slowing down or stopping.

Before riding, ensure the brake lever does not touch the handlebars when fully applied. If it does, adjust the barrel adjuster to increase brake cable tension. If the problem persists, consult an experienced bicycle mechanic.

Note: Disc brake rotors will become hot during use and stay hot for a short period after use due to friction. Ensure you do not touch the disc rotor right after use.

Contact Lectric eBikes if you have any questions regarding the safe operation of your Lectric eBike.

Cruise Control

Cruise control works similarly to a car's. To activate: hold the minus button while twisting the throttle. The bike maintains a speed based on the throttle position. For example, if the throttle is twisted to maintain 20 mph and the minus button is held, cruise control is activated at 20 mph. The bike will accelerate to maintain this speed. To cruise at low speeds, slightly twist the throttle and hold the minus button. Cruise control can be deactivated by pulling the brakes, which also cuts motor power.

Changing the Top Speed

The Lectric XP ships capable of a maximum of 20 mph, classifying it as a Class 2 electric bike in states recognizing 3 classes. In most states, 20 mph is legal for public roads.

Class Pedal Assist Top Speed Throttle Top Speed
1 20 mph Throttle not allowed
2 (Default) 20 mph 20 mph
3 28 mph 20 mph

⚠️ You must check your local laws and regulations to determine if it is lawful to ride Class 3 eBikes on public roads before adjusting the bike's top speed. Laws vary by trail, path, and road.

States recognizing 3 classes require a label denoting the eBike's class, motor wattage, and top speed. Your bike comes as Class 2 by default, with a sticker located under the carry handle near the seatpost. If you change the top speed, remove this sticker and replace it with a Class 3 label detailing class, top pedal-assisted speed, and motor wattage.

To Change the Top Speed:

  1. Access the settings menu by pressing and holding the plus and minus buttons simultaneously until the screen displays “P1”.
  2. Cycle through settings by pressing the power button and adjust values using the plus or minus buttons.
  3. Go to setting “P08” and change the value from 32 to 45.
  4. Press and hold the plus and minus buttons again until the main screen appears.
  5. Power the bike off by holding the power button to save changes.

Congratulations! You can now cruise at speeds of up to 28 mph on your Lectric XP!

⚠️ Exercise increased caution as riding at higher speeds poses an increased safety risk and may result in serious injury or death. Always wear a helmet and obey the rules of the road.

Battery Capacity Display

The LCD display has a battery indicator bar labeled “energy bar”, showing the estimated charge level. As the battery depletes, tick marks disappear. The display will flash when there is no charge remaining.

Riding in Wet Conditions

This electric bicycle can withstand light rain and small splashes but is not designed for inclement weather, heavy showers, or submersion.

⚠️ Use caution when riding in wet conditions, as it will take longer to slow down and tires may slip when turning. The electrical components are not waterproof. The bike has an IP rating of 65. Water damage is not covered under warranty.

Riding at Night

Riding at night carries increased risks due to decreased visibility. Ensure reflectors are installed. For increased visibility, turn on the front headlight and rear tail light, adjusted so others can see them clearly. Wear bright colored clothing at night.

Max Weight

The bike can safely carry a total weight of 330 lbs. If a rear rack is attached, its maximum capacity is 75 lbs. If you have a 40 lb payload, the maximum rider weight is 290 lbs.

⚠️ Failure to adhere to these weight limits may invalidate your warranty, cause damage to the bike or rack, or cause serious injury to the rider. Note that range and top speed are affected by total weight. If you are over 265 lbs, you should lock out the suspension fork before riding.
