Safety Instructions

  1. Do not repair, disassemble, or modify the device without permission.
  2. Do not use this device in extremely hot, cold, dusty, or humid environments. Avoid any exposure to liquids.
  3. The device may get warm during charging; this is normal.
  4. Prevent the device from falling, friction, or crashing against hard objects during use, as this can cause surface scratches, battery disconnection, data loss, or other hardware damage. Avoid violent vibration or impact.
  5. Enjoy music at a proper volume to avoid impairing your hearing and damaging the sound system. Before plugging in headphones, turn down the volume.
  6. Do not clean the device with chemicals or detergents, as this may damage its surface and coating.
  7. Do not disconnect the device during formatting or file transfer, as this may cause program errors.
  8. The USB port is for data transmission or charging only. Avoid using the device while it is charging.
  9. When the device is not in use for extended periods, charge it regularly to maintain battery life.
  10. Replace the battery only with the same type or equivalent. Improper replacement carries a risk of explosion.
  11. Never expose the battery to fire, direct sunlight, or extremely hot environments.
  12. Please download the firmware update from the official Shanling website: https://en.shanling.com and follow the update instructions.

Inserting MicroSD Card

1. Lift the card cover by pulling on the marked edge of the card cover.

2. Insert the card in the same orientation as pictured. Press gently until the card clicks into place. Press again to remove the card.

Operation Instructions

Power ON / OFF / Screen Locking

  1. Power on: Press and hold the power button for 2 seconds. The status indicator lights up, and the device turns on.
  2. Power off: Press and hold the power button for 2 seconds. The display shows "Power Off" and "Restart" selection windows. Click "Power Off" to shut down the device.
  3. Screen lock: While the device is powered on, short press the power button to lock the screen and turn off the display. Press the power button again to unlock the device.

Navigation Mode (Settings - General - Navigation Mode)

  1. Gesture Mode:
    • Return to previous: Slide from the left edge to the right, or from the right edge to the left.
    • Back to main screen: Slide up from the bottom of the screen.
    • Multitasking: Slide up from the bottom of the screen and keep your finger on the screen.
  2. Floating Ball Mode:
    • Return to previous: Click the floating ball on the screen.
    • Back to desktop: Press and hold the floating ball on the screen.
    • Multitasking: Double-click the floating ball on the screen.
  3. Virtual Buttons Mode:
    • < : Return to previous.
    • ○: Back to the main screen.
    • □: Multitasking.

Previous / Next / Play & Pause

  1. Previous ^: Short press to jump to the previous song or the beginning of the current song. Long press for fast rewind.
  2. Next v: Short press to jump to the next song. Long press for fast forward.
  3. Play & Pause >II: Short press to play or pause playback.

Volume Control

Turn the wheel clockwise to increase volume, and counterclockwise to decrease volume.

Charging

Supports QC3.0 fast charge and standard USB charging. When the USB cable is connected, the display shows the battery charging icon and power level. The status indicator lights up red while charging and turns off when the battery is full.

Micro SD Card Port

  1. The port is for standard Micro SD cards and supports up to 2TB capacity.
  2. Open the Micro SD card cover, insert the Micro SD card into the slot in the indicated direction, and press gently until it locks. Press again to remove the card.

Firmware Update

  1. Ensure the device is fully charged before updating firmware to prevent update failure.
  2. Do not operate the player during the update process.

Over-the-Air (OTA) Update

When connected to a Wi-Fi network, the device automatically checks for new firmware updates. To check manually, go to "Technical Support - Firmware Update - Online Update" and click "Check for Update".

Micro SD Card Update

  1. Download the firmware update from Shanling's official website and copy the latest firmware file to the root directory of the Micro SD card.
  2. Navigate to "Technical Support - Firmware Update - Local Update", select the firmware file, and click update.

Common Problems

  1. It is recommended to use a DC5V 2A adapter. Using an adapter with higher voltage may damage the M3 Ultra.
  2. If the device cannot be started, the battery may be low or depleted. Please recharge and try again.
  3. If the system is unresponsive or crashes, press and hold the power button for approximately 12 seconds to force a restart.
  4. If there is noise from the headphones, the headphone output jack may not be properly connected. Re-insert the headphones.
  5. If there is no sound, try using a different pair of headphones or cable, and ensure the volume is set correctly. Also, check if the music files are intact.

MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) is an award-winning British technology that delivers the sound of the original master recording. The master MQA file is fully authenticated and is small enough to stream or download. The M3 Ultra includes MQA technology, enabling playback of MQA audio files and streams, delivering the sound of the original master recording. The M3 Ultra Now Playing screen shows a green or blue dot next to the MQA logo to indicate that the unit is decoding and playing an MQA stream or file, and denotes provenance to ensure that the sound is identical to the source material. A blue dot indicates it is playing an MQA Studio file, approved in the studio by the artist/producer or verified by the copyright owner. A magenta dot in USB mode confirms the product is receiving an MQA stream or file, delivering the final unfold of the MQA file and displaying the original sample rate.
