Network Video Recorder VSTARCAM N800

This NVR series is specifically designed for video surveillance and represents a digital product. It uses the LINUX operating system, which is more stable than others. It features H.264 video compression technology and G.711A audio compression technology, ensuring high image quality and a significantly reduced error rate.

Basic Operations

1. Basic Installation

1.1 Hard Disk Installation

Insert the hard disk into the NVR if this is the first time you are using this Network Video Recorder. For hard disk capacity, please refer to the NVR's technical specifications. The device can play back images without a hard disk, but you will not be able to store or play back recordings as desired; you will only see the live stream from the cameras.

1.2 Mouse Connection

The rear panel has two USB interfaces (USB 2.0), one of which can be used for connecting a mouse. It also has a U-disk interface and a WiFi module. Mouse connection depends on product specifications.

1.3 Powering On the NVR

Connect the power supply to the NVR and turn on the power switch on the device. The power LED indicator will light up, indicating the NVR is powered on. After powering on, you will hear a beep, and the standard NVR interface will appear. This interface displays the screen in 4 quadrants, each corresponding to a channel and a camera connected to that channel.

1.4 Powering Off the NVR

There are two ways to stop the NVR from functioning:

  1. Via software shutdown: Navigate to [Main Menu] > ? [Log Out] > ? [Shutdown].
  2. Turn off the device's power supply.

Note: Powering off the NVR abruptly may cause loss of data or recorded media files.

1.5 Authentication

The NVR comes with two preset user accounts: 'admin' and 'guest'. The default password for both is: 123456.

The 'admin' user has full privileges, while the 'guest' user can only view images and play back stored recordings.

Password Protection: If the password is entered incorrectly 7 consecutive times, an alarm will be triggered. The account will be unlocked after a restart or after waiting for half an hour. For your privacy, please change the password immediately after accessing the NVR.

2. Network Settings

Network configuration is done by accessing [Main Menu] > ⚙️ [System] > ? [Network].

  • [IP Address]: Set the IP address; the default is 192.168.1.18.
  • [Subnet Mask]: Set the subnet mask code; the default is 255.255.255.0.
  • [Default gateway]: Set the default gateway; the factory default is 192.168.1.1.

Set the equipment's IP address and the router's IP address within the same network segment. For example, the router's IP address is 192.168.1.1 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. According to standard settings, the default gateway is generally the router's IP address.

Enter the IP address 192.168.1.10 in a web browser (like Internet Explorer) to access the equipment on the LAN and view images. For more information, refer to the NVR's configuration chapter.

3. IPC Connection

3.1 Adding IPC

There are 3 methods to do this:

  1. [Right-click] > [Main Menu] > [Remote Device] > [Quick Add]
  2. [Right-click] > [Main Menu] > [Remote Device] > [Manual Add] ✍️
  3. [Main Menu] > [System] > [Digital] > [Remote Device], as shown in the image below:

[Image Description: A screenshot of the 'Remote Device' interface showing 'Online Equipment' and 'Added device' lists. It includes columns for IP Address, Port, Protocol, MAC, and options to Add, Edit, Delete, Search, Quick Add, Manual Add, IPC PnP, and AutoSearch.]

3.2 Online Equipment

  • [Search]: searches for IPC in the LAN.
  • [Add]: select the IPC you want to add or click the [Add] icon directly to add the camera.
  • [Quick add]: adds IPC for all available channels.
  • [Protocol]: select the protocol for connecting the IPC. Generally, it is ONVIF. If the cameras are also Vstarcam, the suggested protocol is A1. As this is our company's protocol, it is more useful than ONVIF.

IP Modification: Press the pencil icon ✏️ to modify camera configurations.

3.3 Added Device

  • [Delete]: delete added IPCs or press the icon.
  • [Manual add]: select the protocol, enter the IPC address, username, and password to add the camera. Ensure you have entered the requested data correctly.
  • [IPC UPnP]: after selecting this function, the system will add the IPC to an available channel immediately and automatically, once every minute.
  • [Auto search]: after selecting this function, the device sends a broadcast packet to the network. This function is enabled by default.

4. Recording Mode and File Playback

4.1 Recording Mode

[View Window] > [Right Mouse Button] > [Recording Mode]:

  • [Schedule]: schedules recording times.
  • [Manual]: continuous manual recording until ⏹️ [Stop] is pressed.
