BUMPER REMOVAL:
- Remove the boot interior trim.
- Remove the rear light clusters, noting three fixings inside the vehicle.
- Remove seven fixings along the lower edge, three fixings securing each wheel arch liner, two fixings behind each wheel arch liner, and one tip fixing on either side.
- Remove four fixings through the rear panel inside the vehicle.
- Release the bumper from the vehicle, starting at the bumper tips and moving rearward. Ensure any wiring looms are disconnected.
- FIG 1 Reference: If fitted, drill rivets and remove the inner plastic insert from the bumper lower edge. This insert is not refitted with the Towbar assembly.
- FIG 2 Reference: For AMG Style bumpers only, cut the lower valance. Alternatively, order a lower pre-cut valance from Mercedes. Exercise caution to avoid cutting into the wiring loom running through the bumper.
- Remove the two vertical fixings securing the tank from the O/S (Offside) and remove the rear impact beam from the rear panel. The impact beam is not refitted with the Towbar assembly.
TOWBAR INSTALLATION:
- Using Item E with Item J, fix Item A (Crossmember) to the rear panel. Ensure original gaskets are between Item A and the rear panel. It is also advised to add adequate sealant around the Towbar and rear panel joints to prevent water ingress.
- Insert Items B (Handed Side Arms) through the Towbar end plates and secure them to the inside face of each chassis member using Items E and Items J.
- Using Items F and Item K, fix Items B to Item A.
- Using Item M, fix the tank back to Item A.
- Using Item G with Item K and Item H with Item K, fix Item C (Extension) to Item A, ensuring Item L (Spacer Tube) is fitted at the lowest fixing point.
- Using Item D, fix your desired ball bracket and wiring plate (not supplied in this kit) to Item C.
- Fully tighten all fixings, ensuring the Towbar is rigid, square, and secure.
- Refit the rear bumper, light clusters, and boot interior trim.
Notes:
- Recommended Torque Setting for M12 Grade 10.9: 139 Nm. (For other Torque Settings, see notes overleaf.)
- Nose load limits and vehicle manufacturers' trailer / caravan weight limits must be observed.
