Overview

The NUX DUAL LOOP STEREO pedal is designed for guitarists, singer-songwriters, and musicians who want to incorporate looping into their performances and compositions. It features dual loop tracks, two distinct drum patterns, and a suite of effects including Octave, Booster, Cabinet Simulator, and Reverb. The pedal offers a high-definition color LCD display for intuitive control, stereo microphone/instrument inputs and outputs, and MIDI in/out functionality for versatility in practice, studio work, or live performance.

Control Panel

The control panel features the following:

  • Colored LCD display: A high-definition display for visual feedback.
  • HOME/MEMORY/Back knob: Twist to select a memory (00-99). Press to return to Settings. Press and hold to return to the Home screen.
  • PARA/Confirm knob: Twist to change settings or adjust parameters. Press to enter a setting or confirm a selection.
  • TRACK 1 knob: Adjusts the volume level of Track 1.
  • TRACK 2 knob: Adjusts the volume level of Track 2.
  • DRUM 1 knob: Adjusts the volume level of Drum 1.
  • DRUM 2 knob: Adjusts the volume level of Drum 2.
  • MIC LEVEL knob: Adjusts the gain of the microphone input.
  • MASTER knob: Adjusts the overall master volume.
  • SYNC/SPLIT button: Toggles between SYNC mode (two individual loopers play together) and SPLIT mode (loopers play one by one, useful for A/B parts with different phrasing and drum settings). In SPLIT mode, DRUM 1 plays with Track 1, and DRUM 2 plays with Track 2.
  • DRUM/STYLE button: Press to turn the drum patterns on/off. Press and hold to set up the drum style.
  • TAP TEMPO button: Press multiple times to set the tempo by tapping. Press and hold to enter the tempo value setting.
  • SAVE/DEL button: Press to save recording data to memory. Press and hold to delete a memory.
  • Footswitch 1:
    • SYNC mode: Click to start recording/playing/dubbing. Double-click to stop playing. Hold to redo/undo recording.
    • SPLIT mode: Click to start recording/playing/dubbing Track 1. Double-click to stop playing. Hold to redo/undo recording.
  • Footswitch 2:
    • SYNC mode: Selects Track 1 or Track 2.
    • SPLIT mode: Click to start recording/playing/dubbing Track 2. Double-click to stop playback. Hold to redo or undo recording.
  • Footswitch 3 (CTRL):
    • Click to stop playing the loop or drum.
    • When loops are stopped, hold to clear data of both Track 1 and Track 2.
    • Function can be configured in Global settings (e.g., STOP/CLEAR, REVERSE ON/OFF).

I/O Jacks

The pedal features the following input and output jacks:

  • MIC/INPUT 1 (MONO): Combined XLR and 1/4-inch jack for connecting microphones or instruments.
  • +48V Toggle Switch: Activates phantom power for condenser microphones. ⚠️ Warning: Do not activate phantom power if not using a condenser microphone, as it may damage incompatible equipment.
  • INST/INPUT 2: 1/4-inch phone type jack for connecting instruments.
  • OUTPUT L (MONO): 1/4-inch phone type jack for connecting to an amplifier or mixer.
  • OUTPUT R: 1/4-inch phone type jack for connecting to an amplifier or mixer.
  • AUX IN: 1/8-inch stereo miniature type jack for connecting external audio equipment.
  • PHONES: 1/8-inch stereo miniature type jack for connecting earphones.
  • MIDI IN: 1/8-inch stereo miniature type jack for inputting MIDI signals from MIDI devices.
  • MIDI OUT: 1/8-inch stereo miniature type jack for outputting MIDI signals to MIDI devices.
  • EXP Jack: 1/4-inch TRS phone type jack for connecting an external footswitch (e.g., NMP-2 Dual Footswitch) for additional control, or an expression pedal to control volume settings (MASTER VOL, LOOPER VOL, DRUM VOL).
  • DC IN jack: For connecting the NUX ACD-006 adapter (9V 500mA).

Connections

The DUAL LOOP STEREO NML-3DLS can be connected in various configurations:

  • Audio Setup: Connect microphones and instruments to the MIC/INPUT 1 and INST/INPUT 2 jacks. Connect the OUTPUT L/R jacks to amplifiers, mixers, or audio interfaces. Headphones can be connected to the PHONES jack.
  • MIDI Setup: Connect MIDI devices to the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT jacks using appropriate cables.
  • External Control: Connect an NMP-2 Lite Dual Footswitch or an expression pedal to the EXP jack for expanded control.
  • Computer Connection: Connect to a computer via the USB-C port for USB audio streaming (recording/playback) or for importing/exporting WAV files and customizing the boot-up GIF.

How to Use

  1. Power On: Connect the NUX ACD-006 adapter to the DC IN jack and plug it into a power outlet.
  2. Select Memory and Mode: Twist the MEMORY knob to select an empty memory slot (01-99). Press the SYNC/SPLIT button to choose your desired loop mode (SYNC or SPLIT).
  3. Looping:
    • Use Footswitch 1: Click to start recording, playing, or overdubbing. Double-click to stop playback. Hold to undo or redo your last recording action.
    • Use Footswitch 2: In SYNC mode, press to switch between controlling Track 1 and Track 2. In SPLIT mode, use it to record, play, or overdub Track 2. Double-click to stop playback. Hold to undo or redo.
  4. Drums: Press the DRUM/STYLE button to turn the drum patterns on or off. Press and hold this button to select different drum kits and styles.
  5. Tempo: Use the TAP TEMPO button to set the desired tempo by tapping. Press and hold to manually enter a tempo value.
  6. Save: Press the SAVE button to store your recorded phrases and settings to the selected memory slot.

Import Playbacks

You can import backing tracks from your computer:

  • Connect the DUAL LOOP STEREO to your computer via USB.
  • Ensure the USB mode is set to "IMPORT/EXPORT WAV FILES".
  • Use the NuxFormatConverter software (available from the NUX website) to convert your backing tracks to the required format: 44.1 kHz/32-bit float Stereo WAV.

USB Audio Stream

Connect the DUAL LOOP STEREO to your computer via USB to use it as an audio interface:

  • Set the USB mode to "USB AUDIO STREAM".
  • This allows you to record the loop, drum patterns, and any sound from your guitar and microphone directly into your computer's Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) or recording software.

Customize Boot-up Picture

Personalize your pedal by changing the boot-up display:

  1. Connect the DUAL LOOP STEREO to your computer via USB and set the USB mode to "IMPORT/EXPORT WAV FILES".
  2. Navigate to the folder: NUX LOOPER > NML-3DLS > GIF on your computer.
  3. Download a custom GIF file into this folder. The GIF must meet the requirements: 960x376 pixels and a maximum file size of 2MB.
  4. Before adding your GIF, delete the original GIF file in the folder.
  5. Disconnect the pedal from the computer and reboot it.
  6. Enter the DISPLAY settings and select the BOOT-UP PICTURE option as USER.
  7. Reboot the DUAL LOOP STEREO again to see your custom boot-up image.
