Honeywell FocusPRO® 5000 Series Digital Thermostat User Guide
This is a legacy product document supported by Resideo. It is no longer manufactured.
Thermostat Controls
The thermostat features a digital display and several control buttons:
- Digital Display: Shows current indoor temperature, system status (heating/cooling on/off), fan status, and temperature settings. It may also display warnings like 'Low battery' or 'Replace Battery'.
- Function Buttons: Located below the display, these buttons allow you to select and change various functions displayed above them.
- Temperature Buttons: Used to set your preferred heating and cooling temperatures.
- System Button: Press to select the operating mode: Heat, Cool, Auto (automatic heat/cool changeover), or Off.
- Fan Button: Press to select fan operation: Auto (runs only when heating/cooling is active) or On (runs continuously).
- Battery Holder: Located at the back, it holds optional batteries for backup power.
Display Screen Explained
The display screen provides key information:
- Current Inside Temperature: Displays the current room temperature.
- Temperature Setting: Shows your desired temperature for heating or cooling.
- System Status: Indicates if the cooling system ('Cool On') or heating system ('Heat On') is currently running.
- Auxiliary Heat: (For heat pumps) Shows when auxiliary heat is active.
- Fan Status: Displays whether the fan is in 'Auto' or 'On' mode.
Auto Changeover (Heat/Cool)
This feature is useful in climates with both heating and cooling needs on the same day. When set to 'Auto', the thermostat automatically switches between heating and cooling based on the indoor temperature.
- For Auto Changeover to function correctly, the heating and cooling set temperatures must be at least 3 degrees apart (this is known as the 'deadband').
- The thermostat automatically maintains this 3-degree separation.
- To enable, press the SYSTEM button until 'Auto' is displayed. Note: The 'Auto' setting may not be visible depending on your thermostat's installation.
Built-in Compressor Protection
To prevent damage from the compressor restarting too quickly after shutdown, a built-in protection feature delays restarts for a few minutes. During this delay, the display may show 'Cool On' or 'Heat On' flashing. The message stops flashing, and the compressor turns on once the safe wait time has elapsed.
Battery Replacement
Batteries are optional for backup power if your thermostat is wired for AC power.
- Install fresh batteries when the 'REPLACE BATTERY' warning appears. This warning typically starts flashing about two months before the batteries are depleted.
- Replace batteries annually, or before leaving your home for over a month.
- Settings are permanently stored in memory and do not require battery power.
- Models:
- TH5110D: Requires AAA alkaline batteries.
- TH5320U/TH5220D: Requires AA alkaline batteries.
