OPA 1410/1710/2110 Econex Series R32
Technical Data
Cooling Capacity: 11.8kW - 239kW
Heating Capacity: 12.9kW - 244kW
Introduction
Temperzone's Econex Packaged rooftop HVAC units offer ultimate flexibility and performance for open-plan commercial environments. The Econex series provides energy efficiency, low start-up current, a wide operating range (-10°C to +50°C ambient conditions), and potential for 'free' cooling using an Economiser option. Econex Pro models add integrated controls, intelligent software for changing conditions, enhanced energy efficiency, and additional control options.
Applications
These units are specifically developed for air conditioning of large commercial premises, including retail warehouses, supermarkets, shopping malls, educational facilities, sports venues, exhibition centres, industrial process facilities, and auditoriums.
Key Features
- Lower GWP: Utilizes R32 Refrigerant, offering a 75-80% reduction in Global Warming Potential (GWP) per kW of cooling compared to R410A units.
- Economy: Econex units use a combination of inverter and fixed-speed compressors. Econex Pro models feature four variable capacity inverter compressors for enhanced part-load efficiency and redundancy.
- Efficient: Incorporates inverter scroll compressors for high part-load efficiency. Indoor fans can also operate at part load for further efficiency gains. High-efficiency electronically commutated (EC) motors are used for plug fans. Large heat exchange coils with inner grooved tubes enhance heat transfer.
- Better Comfort: Variable speed technology allows for fine-tuning, leading to improved temperature stability and occupant comfort.
- Intelligence: Econex Pro units feature intelligent software that self-adjusts to maintain required temperature and humidity levels, optimizing for part-load efficiency, performance, or a balance of both.
- Quiet Operation: Integral high-efficiency EC fan motors allow for slow ramp-up. Outdoor coil design permits low fan speeds. Compressors are isolated in insulated compartments, and the indoor air section is also insulated for noise attenuation.
- Durable Construction: Cabinets are made from high-grade galvanised steel with baked polyester powder coating (AS 4506:2005, Grey) for weather protection (IP44/IPX4). External fasteners are marine-grade SKT® coated steel. Units include a baked polyester powder coated internal condensate drain tray. Heat exchange coils use aluminium fins on mechanically expanded rifled copper tubes, with pre-epoxy coating for corrosion resistance. Fan motor bearings are sealed for life. Coil protection guards are included.
- Easy Access: Service panels are hinged with turn locks for straightforward maintenance access.
- Improved Indoor Air Quality: Units accommodate 50 or 100 mm thick panel filters. Indoor fans ventilate the building, with an option for fresh air introduction via an Economiser Kit.
- Low Maintenance: Utilizes fans requiring no pulley or belt adjustments. Controlled outdoor section drainage prevents water pooling.
- Inverter Compressor: Hermetically sealed, quiet-running inverter compressors are supported on rubber mounts to minimize vibration and provide part-load economy.
- Soft Starting: EC motors and inverter compressors offer soft starting, eliminating high in-rush current issues.
- Insulation: Closed-cell foam insulation in the indoor air section prevents particle introduction into the airstream. Both indoor and outdoor chambers are insulated to prevent external condensation. Insulation meets fire test standards AS 1530.3 (1989) and BS 476 parts 6 & 7.
- Unit Control System: Econex uses four Temperzone UC8 controllers with a master UC8 for staging, status, and alarms. An external controller is also required. Econex Pro uses a Carel c.pCO master controller with four UC8 slave controllers, offering fully integrated, stand-alone operation. An optional remote display (pGD1) is available.
- Control Options: Econex Pro can maintain airflow using a differential pressure transducer. Both Econex and Econex Pro EC plug fans can be controlled via a 0-10V DC signal from a BMS or the c.pCO controller. Units are BMS compatible (Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet/IP) and can operate as turn-key systems.
- Extended Capability: Inverters are suitable for applications requiring high fresh air, VAV, and close control. Supply air temperature control is possible via BMS or other controls.
- System Protection Features: Includes HP/loss of refrigerant protection, anti-rapid cycle timer, circuit breaker control, electronic de-ice switch, frost protection, sensor fault indication, and crankcase heater.
- Self Diagnostics: Unit Controllers (UC8) have LED displays for faults. Econex Pro faults are displayed on the master controller.
- Compact Design: Self-contained units compared to split systems.
- Wiring: Designed for 3-phase 400V a.c. 50 Hz supply. Complies with RCM for electrical safety and EMC standards. Includes a single-phase auxiliary power outlet.
- Plant Room Use: Units are supplied with high static condenser fans. Correct clearances and no air recirculation are required for performance.
- Configurations: Available in horizontal and downward supply/return air versions, with opposite-hand options. Integrated Hot Gas Reheat coil is an option.
- Optional Equipment: Includes filters (G4 rated), TZT-100 wired wall thermostat, Remote Service Interface Display (pGD1), Economiser kits, Spill Air kits, controller expansion modules, and BACnet gateway controllers.
- Economiser Option: Provides 'free cooling' by utilizing outdoor air when its heat content or wet bulb temperature is below that of the return air. Econex units include dampers/motors/cowl (controls by others); Econex Pro includes dampers/motors/cowl and temperature/humidity sensors with Economy Cycle control.
- Reheat Coil Options: Econex Pro can be supplied with an integrated hot gas reheat coil for humidity control or an external hot water coil for utilizing waste heat.

Air Handling
Air Handling performance is illustrated through graphs showing Available External Pressure (Pa) vs. Air Flow (l/s) and Power Input (kW) vs. Air Flow (l/s) for different fan speed voltage inputs (e.g., 5V, 6V, 7V, 8V, 9V, 10V) and corresponding current draws (A). These graphs are for dry coils and do not include filters or Reheat coil options.
Sound Levels
Indoor Sound Levels
Sound Power Levels (SWL) and Sound Pressure Levels (SPL) are provided for indoor air outlets across various octave band frequencies (125 Hz to 4 kHz). Data is presented for different models (OPA 1410, 1710, 2110) and fan speeds (e.g., 4V, 7.5V, 6.5V). Sound Pressure Levels within a room are derived by deducting room absorption effects based on room type (Soft, Medium, Hard).
Outdoor Sound Levels
Sound Power Levels (SWL) – Radiated and Sound Pressure Levels (SPL) are detailed for outdoor fans across octave band frequencies. Data is provided for different models and fan speeds, measured in decibels re 1 picowatt and decibels re 20 μPa respectively.
Dimensions
Dimensional data is provided for OPA 1410, 1710, and 2110 models in horizontal supply configurations, including point loads (kg) for standard and economiser versions. Diagrams illustrate upward and downward supply/return air options, showing key measurements and spigot flange details. Minimum clearances for multiple units and access points are indicated.
