FNV 25 / FNV 50 / FNV 100 VOICE EVACUATION INTERFACE SYSTEM INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
System Overview
The FNV 25, FNV 50, and FNV 100 are self-contained amplifier, tone generator, digital message repeater, and supervisory interface units. They are designed for use with a UL-listed Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) to provide a Listed Voice Evacuation Alarm System.
The FACP provides initiating circuitry and a signaling circuit to the FNV units. The FNV series provides its own internal supervision and supervision for its speaker lines. Any fault is reported back to the FACP. In normal standby, the supervisory circuit from the panel connects to a matching EOLR. If the FNV unit experiences an internal failure or a fault on the speaker line, a contact opens, and the FACP reports it as an open fault.
These units are powered by 120 VAC at 60 Hz. The FNV 25 provides 25W to the speaker circuit, the FNV 50 provides 50W, and the FNV 100 provides 100W. Speakers can be 25 or 70 VRMS (jumper selectable; 25V is factory set).
Installation
Installers must ensure all wiring and devices comply with the following standards:
- National Electrical Code (NFPA 70)
- NFPA Standard 72
- Life Safety Code (NFPA 101)
Install equipment in a clean, dry environment, avoiding areas subject to vibration. Remove electronic assemblies from the enclosure before drilling or punching. Make cable entries from the rear or sides where possible. Ensure modifications do not interfere with assemblies or batteries.
Wiring
Refer to wiring and terminal designation diagrams for detailed connections:
- Connect speaker lines to TB1 - 5(+) & 6(-), observing polarity. Ensure all speakers are connected with the same polarity. For Class "A" (Style "Z"), use returns TB1 - 7(-) & 8(+).
- Ensure the microphone is attached to connector P2. If no microphone is installed, set switch SN2 - 8 to the OFF position.
- Attach the appropriate EOLR for the FACP to TB3 - 3 & 4 and TB3 - 5 & 6. The TB3 term 5 & 6 value must also be placed at the end of the speaker line. Use the EOLR value specified in the FACP manufacturer's installation instructions for the indicating appliance circuit. If EVX-4Z zone splitters are used, the FACP EOLR is relocated per EVX-4Z installation instructions (P/N 1-5010 Rev C).
- Connect the FACP signaling circuit to TB1 - 3(+) & 4(-), observing alarm polarity.
- Connect 120 VAC, 60 Hz power to the transformer's primary pigtail leads (black and white). Secure the ground lead to the grounding stud in the cabinet.
- Once power is on, connect the battery wiring harness (Red (+) / Black (-)), observing polarity. Minimum battery size is 24V 7AHr. Maximum battery size is 18Ahr for FNV 25/50 and 24Ahr for FNV 100 (use two 12V batteries in series). If the unit relies on an external power supply with battery backup, ensure switch SN2 - 7 is in the OFF position. Battery wiring is Non Power-Limited and must maintain a minimum 1/4" spacing from any Power-Limited wiring. If batteries are in a separate enclosure, use separate conduit for battery wiring.
Once all power and circuits are connected, the Green LED should remain on, indicating the FNV unit is fully operational and all circuits are nominal.

Options
AUX +24VDC OUTPUT (TB2-4, 8, 9 & 10): These terminals provide a maximum of 200 mA regulated 24VDC power for auxiliary functions. Do not exceed a 200 mA load combined on these terminals. For connection to Listed General Signal devices only (Non-Fire Protective Signaling applications). Terminal 4 activation is programmed in the U6 ePROM chip and is typically active under conditions like Aux Signal Active, Aux Audio Enable, Bell Circuit Active, or RSI Active. Reprogramming requires factory intervention.
CONNECTION OF AN AUX AUDIO SOURCE (TB2-1 & 2): An auxiliary audio source from additional paging equipment can be connected to augment an existing paging system. It is not intended for continuous signal input but can be used for paging applications. For such operation, the Aux Audio Enable input (TB2-6) must be powered from Int V+ (TB2-9) to prevent the aux audio from overriding the evacuation signal during an alarm.
OPTIONAL SUPERVISORY CIRCUIT (TB3-1 & 2): An alternate method for normal supervision via the signaling circuit can be employed using any supervisory circuit from the FACP. Connection is made to TB3, Ter. 1 and 2. This provides a normally closed connection to the EOLR on Ter. 3 and 4. The relay contact opens upon any trouble condition, reporting an open circuit trouble to the FACP. Jumper shorting blocks A and B must be removed from J1 for this connection.
Operation
Standby: The Green LED remains on.
Alarm Condition: The Red LED remains on, and the Green LED also remains on. The alarm sequence typically involves alternating alarm tones and digital messages until the alarm condition is cleared. Keying the microphone overrides tones and messages for direct broadcast, resetting the digital message sequence.
LED Indicators: The Green LED dims with broadcast audio levels. The Yellow LED remains on during a fault condition. The Green LED flashes to indicate fault codes. A fault condition opens the contact connecting the FACP signal circuit to the EOLR, notifying the FACP. Yellow LED 4 illuminates during a ground fault condition.

Trouble Codes
When a unit enters a Trouble Condition, the Yellow LED remains on. The Green LED flashes a code indicating the trouble type. Codes repeat after a pause. Multiple troubles may result in combined codes.
Code | Trouble | Code | Trouble |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Power Failure | 8 | Amplifier Trouble |
2 | Open Speaker Circuit | 16 | Microphone Trouble |
4 | Shorted Speaker Circuit | 32 | Battery Trouble |
* 6 flashes typically indicate "External Trouble" (e.g., EVX-RM). If LED 4 is on, 6 flashes indicate a ground fault. Simultaneous ground fault and external trouble do not combine for 12 flashes.
End of Line Resistors
R1: End-of-line resistor for the FACP Signal Circuit. If the FACP requires a 4.7K EOLR, R1 must be 4.7K. Normally connected through a closed Trouble contact; this contact opens when the FNV unit goes into trouble, signaling an "Open" circuit to the FACP.
R2 & R3: R2 sets the value for the speaker circuit EOLR (R3). R2 and R3 must match. If a speaker EOLR (R3) already exists, match its value for R2.
Field wiring connections: Use appropriate wire gauges (#6-32 screw: 14-18 AWG; #8-32 screw: 12-18 AWG; Horizontal entry terminal: 18-26 AWG). Wire gauge is determined by circuit load.
