iStore Basics

The iStore utilizes advanced technology to efficiently transfer thermal energy from the surrounding air directly into water, independent of the sun or fossil fuels.

Characteristics

How Does The iStore Work?

The iStore operates on a heat pump principle:

  1. A fan draws in air containing heat energy across the evaporator.
  2. The evaporator converts the liquid refrigerant into a gas.
  3. The compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, turning it into a hot gas.
  4. This hot gas heats the water inside the coil-wrapped tank via the condenser coil.
  5. The refrigerant reverts to a liquid after heating the water and returns to the evaporator to repeat the process.
  6. The cycle continues until the set target temperature is achieved.

As water is used, the cycle restarts when the temperature in the lower section of the tank drops 5 degrees Celsius below the target temperature.

Diagram Description: A visual representation of the iStore heat pump cycle shows air being drawn in (1), passing over an evaporator (2), compressed (3), heating water in a tank via a condenser (4), with refrigerant returning to liquid (5) and repeating the cycle (6) until the target temperature is met.

Safety Precautions

⚠️ HOT WATER CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY!

Hot Water Warning:

General Safety Instructions

⚠️ WARNING: Risk of fire/flammable material. Refrigerant leaks with an external ignition source can cause ignition.

Compliance with AS/NZS 5601 is required. If a refrigerant leak is detected, switch off the unit at the mains and contact your iStore service agent. Refrigerant must be removed by a qualified technician at end-of-life.

General Operation

Heating Cycle

The Federal Government mandates a 5°C thermostat range for the iStore, measured in the lower tank region (displayed on the LCD). The cycle restarts when the lower tank temperature drops 5°C below the target. The fan operates only during the heat cycle.

Luke Warm Hot Water - 1 Excessive Hot Water load Stagger hot water usage; avoid continuous consumption. Wait for the system to reheat. Increase timer settings if needed.
Luke Warm Hot Water - 2 Timer not set correctly Ensure timer is set to meet hot water demands. A secondary heating cycle may be required for high usage twice daily. Refer to timer settings instructions.
Overflow pipe is dripping Pressure Temperature Relief Valve (PTR) / Expansion Control Valve (ECV) An 850kPa and 99°C PTR valve ? is used. It's normal for 3-5% of total tank volume to discharge during heating due to expansion.
Water pressure is slightly lower than previous system Pressure Reduction Valve (PRV) A PRV may be installed to limit inlet pressure, increasing cylinder life and protecting it from mains pressure fluctuations.
