Pioneer TS-WX1210AM Active Subwoofer
Model: TS-WX1210AM
Max Power: 1300W MAX
Important Safety Information
Hearing Protection
Play audio at safe levels. Prolonged exposure to high volume can cause permanent hearing loss. Establish a safe listening level by setting the volume control low and slowly increasing it until sound is clear and comfortable, without distortion. Once set, leave the volume at that level.
Guidelines:
- Ensure you can still hear surrounding traffic noises.
- Exercise caution or discontinue use in hazardous situations.
- Do not use headphones while operating a vehicle, as it is a traffic hazard and illegal in many areas.
Installation Warnings
- Before installation, disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery power cable to prevent electrical shock.
- Use supplied connecting cords and do not remove fuses; the protection circuit relies on them.
- Install the speaker where it won't obstruct passengers or pose a danger during sudden stops.
- Before drilling, check behind the mounting location for gas lines, brake lines, or electrical wiring.
- Do not install the TS-WX1210AM in areas that can get wet.
- Use only supplied parts for secure installation.
- Do not insert hands or objects into the duct to avoid injury or damage.
- Avoid installing in unstable areas prone to vibration, which could cause detachment and damage or injury.
- While driving, maintain a listening volume that allows you to hear important external traffic sounds like emergency vehicles.
- High sound levels can cause permanent hearing loss.
Cautionary Notes
- This device operates on a 12-volt (-) negative ground system. Verify your vehicle's compatibility.
- Secure all wiring with cable retainers, adhesive tape, or shrink tubing where they might contact sharp edges. Keep wiring away from hot surfaces or heater outlets to prevent short circuits.
- Refer to your car stereo's operation manual during installation.
- Correctly set the input level switch to match your car stereo's output to avoid distortion and ensure proper volume.
- Low-frequency noise from the head unit may be amplified by the TS-WX1210AM.
Features
- High output and deep bass reproduction.
- Compact design for easy installation in various vehicle spaces.
- Built-in amplifier for powerful sound.
- Includes a wired remote control for convenient adjustment of volume and other settings.
Connections
The subwoofer can be connected using either RCA line-level inputs or speaker-level inputs from the car stereo.
RCA Input Connection:
Connect the RCA cables from the car stereo's pre-out (front or rear) to the RCA L/R inputs on the subwoofer. Connect the remote turn-on wire from the car stereo to the REM terminal on the subwoofer.
Speaker Level Input Connection:
Connect the speaker wires from the car stereo's rear speaker outputs to the Speaker Level L/R inputs on the subwoofer. Connect the power (BATT), ground (GND), and remote turn-on (REM) wires to the appropriate vehicle power sources.
Diagram Description: Two connection diagrams are provided. One shows RCA cables linking the car stereo's pre-outs to the subwoofer's RCA inputs. The other shows speaker wires from the car stereo's speaker outputs connecting to the subwoofer's speaker-level inputs. Both diagrams illustrate connections for power (BATT, GND, REM) and the wired remote control.
Controls and Use
The subwoofer features several controls for sound adjustment:
- GAIN: Adjusts the input sensitivity to match the car stereo's output level.
- LPF (Low Pass Filter): Sets the crossover frequency, typically between 50Hz and 200Hz, to control which low frequencies are sent to the subwoofer.
- PHASE: Selects between 0° and 180° phase to optimize bass response with the car's main speakers.
- BASS BOOST: Enhances bass frequencies.
- Wired Remote Control: Allows for on-the-fly adjustment of the subwoofer's volume.
Diagram Description: A diagram shows the top panel of the subwoofer with labeled control knobs: GAIN, LPF, PHASE, and BASS BOOST. It also indicates the location of the wired remote control port. The separate wired remote control unit has a prominent volume knob.
