Vertical Rim Lock
(500 Series, 700 Series)
Smart Lock Installation Guide
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the EPIC Vertical Rim Lock, covering both 500 and 700 series models.
Diagram Overview
The diagram illustrates the components and their placement during the installation of the EPIC Vertical Rim Lock. It depicts a cross-section of a door, showing the 'Inner Body' on one side and the 'Outer Body' on the other. A 'Back Plate' is positioned behind the 'Inner Body' and attaches to the door. The 'Outer Body' also connects to the 'Back Plate'. The 'Strike' is shown mounted on the 'Door Frame', designed to receive the lock's deadbolt. A 'Strike Spacer' is indicated for potential height adjustments. The 'Battery Cover' is shown separately, indicating the location for batteries. Various screws are labeled, including BH M5x30 for attaching the Outer Body to the Back Plate, FH M4x8 for securing the Inner Body to the Back Plate, and BH 4.2x20 for the Strike and Strike Cover. Batteries (LR6) are also shown.
Installation Steps
- 1. Check Door Thickness
Ensure the door thickness is between 30 mm and 50 mm. If outside this range, the lock may not operate correctly or be installable.
- 2. Select Installation Position & Attach Template
With the door fully closed, attach the supplied Installation Paper (template) to the indoor side of the door. Ensure the template is perfectly level. An unlevel template can cause deadbolt misalignment with the Strike, preventing proper locking.
- 3. Drill the Main Hole
Drill a 32 mm diameter hole at the marked point(s) on the Installation Paper. This hole is crucial for the Connect Cable and requires accuracy.
- 4. Temporarily Assemble Outer Body & Back Plate
Use two BH M5x30 mm screws to lightly secure the Outer Body to the Back Plate. Do not overtighten at this stage; this is a temporary fix.
- 5. Temporarily Attach Inner Body & Check Operation
Temporarily assemble the Inner Body to the Back Plate and perform checks:
- (1) When the door is closed and the Strike is in position, verify that the auto-lock sensor operates normally.
- (2) With the deadbolt locked, confirm at least 10 mm of the deadbolt is inserted into the Strike.
- (3) Check that the deadbolt moves smoothly during locking and unlocking.
Adjust the Back Plate position as needed based on these checks.
- 6. Secure the Outer Body
Align the Outer Body and Back Plate horizontally, then fully secure them. For enhanced stability, use the optional extra reinforcement screws (BH 4.2x20 mm screws, 2pcs).
- 7. Secure the Inner Body
Attach the Inner Body to the Back Plate using four FH M4x8 mm screws.
- 8. Install the Strike
Fix the Strike to the door frame using four BH 4.2x20 mm screws. If height adjustment is necessary, use Strike Spacers. Note that depending on spacer height, BH 4.2x32 mm screws might be required.
- 9. Final Test
Operate the lock/unlock function multiple times from the indoor side to ensure normal operation. If the lock fails to engage or the deadbolt catches, fine-tune the Strike or Back Plate position.
Extra Tips
- Before installation, ensure the Connect Cable for both the Outer Body and Inner Body is not bent or pinched.
- When using a power drill, avoid excessive speed to prevent damage to the door.
- After installation, and before inserting batteries and powering on, double-check that all screws are securely tightened.
