This guide provides instructions for using your Motorola Moto Buds+ and Moto Buds wireless earbuds.

Getting Started

This section introduces your Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) and Moto Buds (XT2443-1) wireless earbuds, which allow you to control media, manage calls, or activate your voice assistant with simple gestures.

Note: Product images are for illustration purposes only and may vary slightly from the purchased product.

Microphones

Each earbud features a three-microphone system that captures sound waves from three different points, enabling better suppression of ambient noise and echoes. Ensure the mesh covers and openings are clean and unobstructed for optimal microphone performance.

Using Your Earbuds

To ensure comfort, gently insert the earbuds into your ears and twist them until they feel securely in place. An illustration demonstrates the proper way to wear the earbuds.

Charging Your Earbuds

Before charging, remove the protective film from the earbuds. The charging case for both Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) and Moto Buds (XT2443-1) can be charged using a USB-C cable. The Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) case also supports Qi-certified wireless charging (sold separately). For optimal wireless charging, place the case on the charging pad, aligning the wireless charging zone at the bottom of the case.

Note: Only the Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) charging case can be charged wirelessly.

Tips:

  • To optimize battery life, store earbuds in the charging case when not in use to prevent sensors from draining the battery.
  • Earbuds automatically recharge in the case if the case is charged.
  • On compatible Motorola phones, you can view earbud and case battery levels via Settings > Connected devices > Settings (next to Moto Buds+ or Moto Buds). More information is available in the Moto Buds app and the LED Indicator Status section.

Pair and Connect

Your wireless earbuds are compatible with Bluetooth-enabled devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops. They use Bluetooth technology for a wireless audio connection.

Quick Pairing

Perform a quick pairing with Android 12+ devices and other Android devices compatible with Google Fast Pair. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device. For Motorola phones, swipe up from the home screen and tap the Bluetooth icon, or go to Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device. If the earbuds are in the open case, Bluetooth pairing mode activates automatically, and a pop-up window appears. Tap 'Connect' and follow on-screen instructions. Download the Moto Buds app if you haven't already.

Note: If the pop-up window doesn't appear, refer to Manual Pairing.

Manual Pairing

Manually pair your earbuds with Bluetooth-compatible devices (Android, iOS, Windows). Enable Bluetooth on your device and select the earbuds from the available list. With earbuds in the open case, press and hold the function button for two seconds until the blue LED blinks. If a pop-up appears, follow the Quick Pairing steps. Select 'moto buds+' or 'moto buds' in your device's Bluetooth settings. Follow on-screen instructions to complete pairing.

Double Connection

Your earbuds can be paired with two devices simultaneously. Double connection is disabled by default. To enable it, at least one device must be running Android. Open the Moto Buds app, ensure earbuds are connected, and toggle 'Double connection' on. Follow pairing steps to connect a second device. When paired with two devices, audio from only one device plays at a time. Incoming calls have priority over media playback. If device A is playing media and device B is also playing media, device B's audio will pause or mute until device A's media is paused.

Using Your Earbud Touch Controls

Perform gestures on the touch-sensitive zones of the earbuds to control playback, calls, and more.

Diagrams illustrating touch controls for Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) and Moto Buds (XT2443-1). Shows double-tap for play/pause/answer/end call, triple-tap on right earbud for next track, and triple-tap on left earbud for previous track. Long press for noise control, voice assistant, or reject call.

  • Double-tap on either earbud: Play/pause music, answer/end call.
  • Triple-tap on the right earbud: Play next track.
  • Triple-tap on the left earbud: Play previous track.
  • Long press (3 seconds) on either earbud: Cycle through noise control modes, activate voice assistant, or reject an incoming call.

Tip: Download the Moto Buds app to customize touch gestures.

LED Indicator Status

The LED indicator on the charging case provides information about the earbuds' status:

  • Blue blinking: Earbuds are pairing.
  • Green blinking: Earbuds are paired.
  • Orange blinking or solid: Case is charging or battery is low.
  • Green solid: Case charge is complete or battery is over 60%.
  • White blinking: Earbuds have been reset.

Moto Buds App

Discover the Moto Buds app at www.motorola.com/mymotobuds or scan the QR code to download it from the Google Play Store. The app is available for Android devices only.

Tip: On some Motorola phones, you can access the app via Settings > Connected devices > Settings (next to Moto Buds+ or Moto Buds) > Install companion app.

Once paired and connected, the app allows you to view battery levels, switch noise control modes, adjust sound settings, customize gestures, and more.

Set Up Noise Control Modes

With both earbuds in your ears, you can eliminate ambient noise or stay aware of your surroundings using various noise suppression modes. Ensure earbuds are connected to your Android device. In the Moto Buds app, select a noise control mode:

  • Off: Disables all noise control modes.
  • Transparency: Allows you to hear ambient sounds.
  • Adaptive: Automatically adjusts noise control based on your environment.
  • Noise Suppression: Reduces external noise for better focus.

Note: Adaptive mode can only be activated within the Moto Buds app.

Tip: You can also change modes by tapping the earbud touch zones.

Change Earbud Sound Settings

Customize your listening experience with various sound options. Ensure earbuds are connected to your Android device. In the Moto Buds app, tap 'Sound' to access settings:

  • Spatial Audio or Equalizer: Listen with spatial audio and head tracking (Moto Buds+ only). Select stereo sound options like Intelligent Audio, Music, Movie, Game, Podcast, or Custom.
  • High-Resolution Mode: Activate for high-quality audio clarity.
  • Game Mode: Reduces latency for an immersive gaming experience.
  • Volume Boost: Provides powerful sound.

Note: Some options may vary by device or region.

Listen with Spatial Audio and Head Tracking

Spatial audio creates an immersive listening experience. Head tracking adjusts audio direction based on head movement. This feature is supported on Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) and Moto Buds (XT2443-1), with head tracking exclusive to Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1). Requires compatible Android devices and Dolby support.

Tip: On compatible Motorola phones, you can also access these settings via Settings > Sound & vibration > Dolby Atmos > Settings.

Note: Dolby Atmos® and Dolby Head Tracking™™™ require a compatible Motorola phone and content.

Customize Touch Gestures

Personalize gestures for calls, music, and voice assistant. In the Moto Buds app, go to Gestures > Left or Right Earbud to customize actions for double-tap, triple-tap, and long-press.

Wake Your Voice Assistant

Activate your phone's voice assistant by setting up a long-press gesture. In the Moto Buds app, go to Gestures > Left or Right Earbud and assign 'Voice Assistant' to a long-press. Then, long-press the earbud to activate the assistant and speak your command.

Enable and Disable In-Ear Detection

In-ear detection automatically pauses media when you remove an earbud and resumes when you reinsert it. In the Moto Buds app, go to Plus > In-ear detection and toggle the switch to enable or disable this feature.

Note: Calls are not interrupted by in-ear detection.

Find Your Earbuds

If you misplace an earbud, use the Moto Buds app to locate it. Ensure earbuds are connected to your Android device. In the app, go to Plus > Find my earbuds to make the earbud ring. Tap the icon to stop the ringing. The earbuds must be within 10 meters and connected to your device.

Mise en garde: To avoid hearing damage, do not try to make the lost earbud ring while keeping the other earbud in your ear.

Tip: On some Motorola phones, you can also use 'Find my device' via Settings > Connected devices > Settings.

Troubleshooting Your Earbuds

Unpair, Restart, and Reset Your Earbuds

  • Unpair: Go to your paired device's Bluetooth settings and tap 'Forget' or 'Unpair'. On Motorola phones, this can also be done via Settings > Connected devices > Settings > Forget.
  • Restart: Place both earbuds in the charging case, close it, then reopen it.
  • Factory Reset: Place both earbuds in the charging case and press and hold the function button for 12 seconds until the white LED blinks. Re-pair using the 'Pair and Connect' steps.

Fixing Issues

If you experience audio problems or issues during calls:

  • Adjust the volume on your connected device or move closer.
  • Clean the ear tips and earbuds, especially the nozzle and grille (refer to 'Cleaning the Earbuds' section).
  • Ensure earbuds and device are within Bluetooth range (max 10 meters, may vary by environment).
  • Keep earbuds away from electromagnetic interference.
