Get started

Meet your earbuds

This guide provides a tour of the Motorola Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) and Moto Buds (XT2443-1) wireless earbuds. These earbuds allow users to control media, manage calls, and activate voice assistants through simple gestures. Product images in this guide are for illustration purposes only and may differ from actual products.

Charging case

The charging case is essential for powering your earbuds. Both models feature charging contacts, a function button, and an LED indicator. The Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) case also supports wireless charging.

Earbuds and eartips

The earbuds come with pre-installed eartips, and additional eartips of different sizes are included for comfort and fit. The earbuds also feature touch-sensitive areas for control.

Note: The earbuds come with pre-installed eartips. Additional eartips of different sizes are included in the package for your convenience. Please select the eartips that offer the best comfort and fit for you.

Microphones

Each earbud features a triple-microphone system designed for better ambient noise suppression and echo cancellation.

Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) Microphones

Moto Buds (XT2443-1) Microphones

Note: Feedforward and feedback microphones are used for noise control modes. For more information, refer to the Set the noise control modes section.

⚠️ Caution: To ensure microphones function normally, keep the mesh and outlets clean and unobstructed. For more information, refer to the Clean the earbuds section.

Wear your earbuds

To achieve the correct fit, gently press the earbuds into your ears and rotate them until they feel tight and secure.

Tip: To find the best eartips for a good seal, install the ? Moto Buds app on an Android device and run a fit test by navigating to ? Moto Buds > More > Fit test. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Charge your earbuds

Note: Before charging, remove any protective film from the earbuds and case.

Both Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) and Moto Buds (XT2443-1) cases can be charged using a USB-C® cable.

The Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) case can also be charged wirelessly using a Qi-certified wireless charger (sold separately). For optimal performance, align the wireless charging area on the bottom of the case with the wireless charger, or place it as recommended by the charger manufacturer.

Note: Only the Moto Buds+ (XT2441-1) charging case supports wireless charging.

Tip: To maximize usage time and battery life, store the earbuds in the charging case when not in use. Otherwise, the sensors will remain active, draining the battery.

Your earbuds will automatically charge when placed in the charging case, provided the case itself is charged.

On some Motorola phones paired with the earbuds, battery levels for both earbuds and the charging case can be viewed by swiping up from the home screen and tapping ⚙️ or ⚙️ Settings > Connected devices > ⚙️ Settings next to moto buds+ or moto buds. For more details, refer to the Moto Buds app and LED indicator status sections.

Pair and connect

These wireless earbuds are compatible with a wide range of Bluetooth-enabled devices, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops. They use Bluetooth technology for wireless audio playback and seamless communication.

Note: If a flashing orange LED is observed (refer to LED indicator status), the case battery is low and not ready to pair. Charge the charging case sufficiently (refer to Charge your earbuds).

Fast pairing

Earbuds can be quickly paired with Motorola mobile devices running Android 12 or later, and other Android smartphones/tablets compatible with Google Fast Pair.

Tip: Consult your Android device manufacturer for Google Fast Pair information.

Note: Full access to Google Fast Pair requires a device set up with a Google account.

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on the device you want to pair.
  2. Tip: To enable Bluetooth on a Motorola phone, swipe up from the home screen and tap ⚙️ or ⚙️ Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device. Alternatively, swipe down the status bar and tap and hold the Bluetooth symbol to open Bluetooth settings.

  3. With the earbuds in the open case, they will automatically enter Bluetooth pairing mode, and a pop-up window will appear.
  4. Note: If the pop-up window does not appear, refer to Manual pairing.

  5. Tap Connect on the pop-up window and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection and download the Moto Buds app if it's not already on your device.

Manual pairing

Earbuds can be manually paired with Bluetooth-compatible devices including phones, tablets, and laptops running Android, iOS, Windows, and other operating systems.

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on the device you want to pair with and open the list of available Bluetooth devices.
  2. Tip: To enable Bluetooth on a Motorola phone, swipe up from the home screen and tap ⚙️ or ⚙️ Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device. Alternatively, swipe down the status bar and tap and hold the Bluetooth symbol to open Bluetooth settings.

  3. With the earbuds in the open case, press and hold the function button (refer to Charging case for button location) for 2 seconds until the LED indicator flashes blue.
  4. Tip: If a pop-up window prompts you to connect before pressing the function button, follow Fast pairing to pair your earbuds.

  5. Select 'moto buds+' or 'moto buds' in the Bluetooth settings on the device you want to pair.

  1. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing.

Dual connection

Your earbuds can connect to two devices simultaneously, with dual connection off by default. Enabling it eliminates the need for manual connection switching.

Note: To turn on dual connection, at least one connected device must be running Android.

  1. Install the Moto Buds app on your Android device.
  2. Ensure your earbuds are connected to your Android device (refer to Pair and connect).
  3. Tap ? Moto Buds, then tap the switch next to 'Dual connection' to turn it on.
  4. Follow the steps in Pair and connect to connect with a second device.

Use your earbuds by touch

Control your earbuds using gestures on their touch areas (refer to Earbuds and eartips for touch area locations).

Touch Gesture Table

x2 L RTap either earbud's touch area twice to play or pause music, or answer or end a call.
x3 RTap the right earbud's touch area three times to play the next track.
x3 LTap the left earbud's touch area three times to play the previous track.
3s L RPress and hold either earbud's touch area for 3 seconds to switch between noise control modes (refer to Set the noise control modes), launch voice assistant (refer to Wake up your voice assistant), or reject a call.

Tip: When using the earbuds with Android devices, download the Moto Buds app to Personalize touch gestures.

LED indicator status

The LED indicator (refer to Charging case for its position) provides status information:

Moto Buds app

Download and install the app

Download the ? Moto Buds app from www.motorola.com/mymotobuds or by scanning the QR code to download from the Google Play™ Store.

Note: The Moto Buds app is for Android devices only.

Tip: On some Motorola phones, the app can also be accessed by swiping up from the home screen and tapping ⚙️ Settings > Connected devices > ⚙️ Settings next to moto buds+ or moto buds > Install companion app.

Once paired and connected with an Android device (refer to Pair and connect), the ? Moto Buds app allows users to view detailed battery levels, switch noise control modes, change sound settings, customize gestures, and more.

To find the app: From your Android device, tap ? Moto Buds and select 'moto buds+' or 'moto buds'.

Note: Your screen may look different from the illustrations.

Moto Buds App Interface Illustrations

To edit your earbud name, tap the ✏️ icon in the top right of the screen.

Tip: On Motorola phones, earbud names can also be edited by swiping up from the home screen and tapping ⚙️ or ⚙️ Settings > Connected devices > ⚙️ Settings next to moto buds+ or moto buds > ✏️.

? Battery levels: To view battery levels of both the charging case and earbuds, place both earbuds into the case.

Tip: On some Motorola phones, battery levels for earbuds and the charging case can be viewed by swiping up from the home screen and tapping ⚙️ or ⚙️ Settings > Connected devices > ⚙️ Settings next to moto buds+ or moto buds.

Firmware update: To get the latest firmware, tap More > Firmware update.

Set the noise control modes

With both earbuds in your ears, users can block out external noise or remain aware of their surroundings using different noise cancellation modes.

  1. Wear both earbuds and ensure they are connected to your Android device (refer to Pair and connect).
  2. Tap ? Moto Buds on the Android device.
  3. Select a noise control mode or turn off noise control:
    • Off: Tap to turn off all noise control modes.
    • Transparency: Tap to hear the sounds around you.
    • Adaptive: Tap to automatically adjust noise control based on changing environmental noise conditions.
    • Note: Adaptive mode can only be enabled within the ? Moto Buds app.

    • Noise Cancellation: Tap to block out external noise for focus.

Tip: Users can also touch the earbud's touch areas (refer to Use your earbuds by touch) to switch modes.

Change earbud sound settings

Users can select from various sound options for music and games with unique settings.

  1. Ensure your earbuds are connected to your Android device (refer to Pair and connect).
  2. Tap ? Moto Buds on your Android device.
  3. Tap Sound, and customize your earbud sound:
    • Tap Spatial Audio or Equalizer for spatial audio with head tracking, or select a stereo audio option like Smart audio, Music, Movie, Game, Podcast, or Custom. Each mode offers a unique listening experience. To change mode settings, tap ✏️.
    • Note: Head tracking is supported only on moto buds+ (XT2441-1). For more information, refer to Listen with spatial audio and head tracking.

    • Turn on Hi-Res Mode for superior audio clarity.
    • Turn on Gaming Mode to minimize latency and enhance immersion in games.
    • Turn on Volume boost for powerful sound.

Listen with spatial audio and head tracking

Note: Certain options may not be available on all devices or in all regions.

Spatial audio provides an immersive audio experience, making content sound more realistic. Head tracking adjusts the direction of spatial audio based on head position and orientation. If your Android device supports Dolby® features, you can enable spatial audio and head tracking when listening to supported audio.

Note: Spatial audio is supported on moto buds+ (XT2441-1) and moto buds (XT2443-1). Head tracking is supported only on moto buds+ (XT2441-1).

  1. Ensure your earbuds are connected to your Android device (refer to Pair and connect).
  2. Tap ? Moto Buds on your Android device.
  3. Tap Sound > Spatial Audio > ✏️ next to 'Spatial audio', then tap the switch next to 'Head tracking' to turn it on.

Tip: On Motorola phones that support spatial audio and head tracking, swipe up from the home screen and tap ⚙️ or ⚙️ Settings > Sound & vibration > Dolby Atmos > ⚙️ Settings > ✏️ next to 'Spatial audio', then tap the switch next to 'Head tracking' to turn it on.

Note: Dolby Atmos® and Dolby Head Tracking™ require a compatible Motorola phone and compatible content.

Personalize touch gestures

Users can customize earbud gestures for calls, music, and voice assistant.

  1. Ensure your earbuds are connected to your Android device (refer to Pair and connect).
  2. Tap ? Moto Buds on your Android device.
  3. Tap Gestures > Left or Right earbud, and personalize your gestures:
    • Tap Double Tap, then select an option like Play/Pause, Next, Previous, Volume up, Volume down, or None.
    • Tap Triple Tap, then select an option like Play/Pause, Next, or Previous.
    • Tap Long Tap or Tap and hold, then select an option like Noise Control (refer to Set the noise control modes), Voice Assistant (refer to Wake up your voice assistant), or None.

Note: Gesture names may differ on devices and change depending on the device and earbud software.

Tip: All gestures are on by default. To turn off a gesture, tap the switch next to it. Users can learn about gesture controls by tapping Gestures > View tutorial.

Wake up your voice assistant

Users can interact with their phone's voice assistant while wearing the earbuds.

  1. Ensure your earbuds are connected to your Android device (refer to Pair and connect).
  2. Tap ? Moto Buds on your Android device.
  3. Tap Gestures > Left or Right earbud > Long Tap or Tap and hold, then select Voice Assistant (refer to Personalize touch gestures).
  4. Note: Gesture names may differ on devices and change depending on the device and earbud software.

  5. Long tap the earbud chosen for voice assistant, wait for a conversation window on the screen, then speak a command or ask a question. For example, if Google Assistant voice feature is on, users can say "Hey Google, call <name>."

Turn on, and turn off in-ear detection

In-ear detection automatically pauses music playback when an earbud is removed and resumes when it's put back in.

  1. Ensure your earbuds are connected to your Android device (refer to Pair and connect).
  2. Tap ? Moto Buds on your Android device.
  3. Tap More > In-ear detection, then tap the switch next to 'In-ear detection' to turn it on or off.

Note: Calls remain active on the earbuds even when removed from ears, as long as they are connected to the device. If media is manually paused before removing an earbud, it will not automatically resume playing after the earbud is put back on.

Find your earbuds

If earbuds are misplaced, use the ? Moto Buds app to locate them.

⚠️ Caution: To prevent hearing damage, do not attempt to ring while wearing either earbud.

  1. Ensure your earbuds are connected to your Android device (refer to Pair and connect).
  2. Tap ? Moto Buds on your Android device.
  3. Tap More > Find my earbuds, then tap ? to ring the earbud you are looking for.
  4. To stop ringing, tap ?.

Tip: On some Motorola phones, earbuds can also be found by swiping up from the home screen and tapping ⚙️ Settings > Connected devices > ⚙️ Settings next to moto buds+ or moto buds > Find Device, then tap ? to ring your earbud.

Note: To ring your earbuds, they should be nearby (within 10 meters) and connected to your device.

Troubleshoot your earbuds

Unpair, restart, or reset your earbuds

If earbuds are not working, try unpairing, restarting, or resetting them.

If audio is unclear or others cannot hear you during a call, try the following adjustments:

Prevent water damage

The product is water and splash resistant but not completely waterproof. Avoid exposing it to pressurized water, salt water, or liquids other than fresh water, and do not intentionally submerge it. Water and splash resistance are not permanent and may decline with daily use. Liquid damage is not covered by the warranty.
