Note: System software and preinstalled applications use a significant part of the storage space.

Turn on your phone

Press and hold the key.

Charge your device

Your battery has been partially charged at the factory, but it may need to be recharged before you can use your device.

Charge the battery

  1. Connect the charger to a wall socket.
  2. Connect the charger to the device.

Do not overcharge the battery: Once your device is fully charged, disconnect the charger from the device first, then from the wall socket.

Do not misuse the battery: avoid discharging the battery below 20% or using it until it runs out of power and switches off.

If the battery is completely discharged, it may take a few minutes before the charging indicator appears.

Tip: You can use USB charging when no wall socket is available. The efficiency of the USB charging device varies considerably. Starting the charge and powering on the device may take some time.

Charger model

For EU countries: Use your device only with a rechargeable battery BL-25AA. Charge your device with the HAC-18 charger. The type of charger plug may vary. HMD Global may offer other battery or charger models for this device.

To preserve the environment, this box does not contain a charger. This device can be powered by most USB power adapters and USB Type-C cables. Use only chargers and cables that comply with your country's regulations, as well as international and regional safety standards, to avoid the risk of material damage and injury. The power delivered by the charger must be between the minimum required 2 watts for radio equipment and a maximum of 5 watts to achieve maximum charging speed.

Your device is compatible with USB-C cables. You can also charge your device with a USB cable, but it may take longer.

For other countries: Charge your device with the HAD-005 charger. HMD Global may offer other battery or charger models for this device. Charging times may vary depending on the device's capabilities. Some accessories mentioned in this user guide, such as the charger, headset, or data cable, may be sold separately.

If no charger is included in the product box, charge your device with the data cable (included) and a USB power adapter (sold separately). You can charge your device with third-party cables and chargers that comply with the USB 2.0 standard or newer, your country's regulations, and international and regional safety standards. Other adapters may not comply with applicable safety standards, and charging with them poses risks to property and people. It is recommended to use a power adapter that delivers a current of 100-240 V~50/60 Hz 0.1 A input and 5 V/1 A output.

Only authorized personnel may install or repair this product, unless self-repair assistance is available. See more information at www.hmd.com/self-repair.

Batteries, chargers, and other accessories

Use only batteries, chargers, and other accessories approved by HMD Global Oy for this device. Do not connect incompatible products.

Keep your device dry

If your device is waterproof, refer to its IP classification in the device's technical specifications for more information.

Glass parts

The device and/or its screen are made of glass. This glass may break if the device is dropped on a hard surface or subjected to a violent shock. Stop using the device until the glass is replaced.

Protect your hearing

Caution: If you use a headset, you may not be able to hear external sounds correctly. Do not use a headset if it may compromise your safety.

Some wireless devices may interfere with the proper functioning of certain hearing aids.

Protect your device from harmful content

Your device may be exposed to viruses and other harmful content. Take the following precautions:

  • Be careful when accepting connectivity requests or browsing the internet. Do not accept Bluetooth® connections from sources you do not trust.
  • Install antivirus and other security software on any connected computer.
  • If you access pre-installed bookmarks and links to third-party websites, take appropriate precautions. HMD Global does not endorse or assume any responsibility for these sites.

Vehicles

Radio signals can affect poorly installed or inadequately protected electronic systems in vehicles. For more information, consult your vehicle or equipment manufacturer. Only authorized personnel may install the device in a vehicle. Improper installation can be dangerous and void your warranty. Regularly check the installation and operation of your wireless transmission equipment in your vehicle. Do not store or transport flammable or explosive materials in the same compartment as the device, its components, or accessories. Do not place your device or accessories in the airbag deployment zone.

Potentially explosive environments

Turn off your device in potentially explosive environments, such as near fuel pumps. Sparks can cause an explosion or fire, resulting in injury that may be fatal. Strictly observe usage restrictions in the presence of fuel, in chemical plants, or in areas where explosives are used. Areas with a potentially explosive environment are not always clearly marked. These are generally areas where it is advisable to switch off vehicle engines, areas below boat decks, facilities for transferring or storing chemicals, and areas where the air contains chemicals or particles. Check with manufacturers of vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas (such as propane or butane) to see if the device can be used safely near them.

Certification information

This mobile device complies with directives on exposure to radio waves.

Your mobile device is a radio transmitter-receiver. It has been designed to comply with the limits set by the international recommendations on exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic fields of the independent scientific organization ICNIRP. These recommendations include substantial safety margins, designed to ensure the protection of all persons, regardless of their age and health status. The recommendations are based on a unit of measurement called the specific absorption rate or SAR, which expresses the amount of RF (radio frequency) power absorbed by the head or body while the device is transmitting. The ICNIRP SAR limit for mobile devices is 2.0 W/kg averaged over 10 grams of tissue.

SAR tests have been carried out with the device in standard use positions, transmitting at the highest certified power level, in all frequency bands.

This device complies with RF exposure recommendations when used against the head or at least 1.5 centimeters (0.6 inches) away from the body. When a case, belt clip, or other form of support is used for body-worn transport, it must not contain metal parts and must provide at least the separation distance from the body indicated above.

Sending data or messages requires a good quality network connection. Sending may be delayed until such a connection is possible. Follow the separation distance instructions as long as the sending is not complete.

Under general usage conditions, the SAR values are generally significantly lower than those indicated above. This is because your mobile device's operating power is automatically reduced when the call does not require full power to optimize system efficiency and minimize network interference. The lower the power output, the lower the SAR value.

Different device models may have different versions and more than one value. Design and components are subject to change over time, and certain modifications may affect SAR values.

For more information, visit www.sar-tick.com. Note that mobile devices can transmit even when no voice call is in progress.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that current scientific information does not indicate any special precautions are necessary for using mobile devices. If you wish to reduce your exposure level, the institution recommends limiting your use or using a hands-free kit to keep the device away from your head and body. For more information, explanations, and discussions on RF exposure, visit the WHO website at www.who.int/health-topics/electromagnetic-fields#tab=tab_1.

Please refer to www.hmd.com/sar for the maximum SAR value of the device.

Exposure to electromagnetic fields

Ministerial decree of November 15, 2019 (This section applies only to France.) All Nokia products comply with international standards and regulations, and, where applicable, national ones aimed at limiting user exposure to electromagnetic fields. These standards and regulations were adopted after extensive scientific research. This research has not established any link between the use of a device and any adverse health effects if the device is used in accordance with applicable standards and regulations. If you have doubts about exposure to handsets operating in compliance with these standards or directives, in accordance with French regulatory requirements, we are required to include the following statement regarding precautions in this User Guide: you can limit exposure to high frequencies by (a) using the device in good reception conditions as indicated by the connection icon on your device screen (to reduce radiation, especially in underground parking lots, during train or car travel, etc.), b) ensuring reasonable use of radio equipment by children and adolescents, for example by avoiding nighttime communications and limiting the frequency and duration of calls, or (c) by using a hands-free kit to keep the device away from your head and body, and especially the abdomen for pregnant women and the lower abdomen for adolescents.
