Installation
Step 1: Add your SwitchBot Curtain Rod 3 to the app
Open the SwitchBot app, sign in, tap '+' on the home page, find and select the Curtain icon. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 2: Install SwitchBot Curtain Rod 3 onto your curtain track
General Steps:
- Fully close your curtain and remove the first curtain hook from the ring.
- Install two detachable Hooks one by one onto your curtain rod between the first and the second ring.
- Pull one detachable Hook downwards with one hand, and hold the Main Unit (with the SwitchBot logo facing indoors) upwards against the rod with the other hand. Align the snaps and attach the Main Unit to the Hook. A clicking sound indicates a firm attachment. Attach the second Hook to the Main Unit. Caution: Do not apply excessive force when pulling the Hook downwards without supporting the rod, as it may break or detach from the wall.
- Adjust the SwitchBot Curtain Rod 3 to be perpendicular to the ground. Re-hang your curtain and position the SwitchBot Curtain Rod 3 behind the curtain fabric.
Specific Instructions for Curtain Types:
Ring Top Curtains
Follow the general steps above. The hooks attach directly to the rings.
Grommet Curtains
Install the SwitchBot Curtain Rod 3 at the back of the curtain. After attaching the main unit and hooks (general steps 2-4), install the beads fixer (with beads) at the top of the grommets. Clip them firmly. Trim excess beads or tuck them behind the curtain. If the distance between clips doesn't fit, adjust them as shown in the diagrams (text description: diagrams show how to adjust the spacing of the clips on the grommets).
Tab Top Curtains
Use the provided clips. Close your curtain and attach a clip to the first tab. Attach remaining clips to other tabs. Important: All other clips should be attached in the opposite direction to the first clip, ensuring they sit on top of the rod and are aligned. Then follow general steps 2-4 for attaching the main unit and hooks.
Back Tab Curtains
Use the provided clips. Attach a clip to the first tab at the back of the curtain. Attach remaining clips to other tabs. Important: All other clips should be attached in the opposite direction to the first clip, ensuring they sit on top of the rod and are aligned. Then follow general steps 2-4 for attaching the main unit and hooks.
Step 3: Install Magnet Attachment
The magnet attachment helps the SwitchBot Curtain run precisely to close curtains. Clean the track surface with the provided wet wipe before installation for optimal adhesion.
Situation 1: Rod bracket holding the rod at the closed position
- Remove the magnet attachment from the liner and stick it to the bottom of the rod along the bracket, with the magnet piece parallel to the rod. For double-sided curtains, stick two attachments symmetrically on both sides of the middle bracket.
- Pull the SwitchBot Curtain so its roller stops within the designated area on the magnet attachment. (Text description: The diagram shows the area where the roller should stop for left-closing single-sided and double-sided curtains).
- Hide the SwitchBot Curtain behind the fabric.
Situation 2: Double-sided curtains without a middle bracket
- Fully close curtains. Use the red sticker to mark the middle position. (Note: Visual estimation can be inaccurate; use the provided sticker).
- Open curtains. Peel off tape liners and stick magnet attachments along both sides of the marked middle position symmetrically. Note: Attachments should be close to each other, wrapping the rod at the bottom, with magnet pieces parallel to the rod.
- Pull each SwitchBot Curtain device separately so their rollers stop within the designated area on the magnet attachments. (Text description: The diagram shows the area where the roller should stop).
- Remove the red sticker. Hide the SwitchBot Curtain behind the fabric.
Step 4: Calibration
After installation, calibrate the device to set its route on the curtain track. Follow the instructions in the app to ensure the curtain's movement matches the app's animation. Recalibration or changing the opening direction is available in the app under Curtain > Settings > Calibration.
Note: For double-sided curtains opening from the middle, group two SwitchBot Curtain Rod 3 units. Ensure both devices are positioned correctly as shown in the app before calibrating.
Control Methods
App Control
Open and close curtains with a button tap. The app offers intuitive control for iOS and Android, with weekly/bi-weekly updates and Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware updates.
Touch & Go
If the SwitchBot Curtain Rod 3 detects a pull of more than 5 cm, it will automatically open or close. For double-sided curtains, pulling one side activates the feature. This feature can be disabled in Advanced Settings.
Note: The 5 cm trigger distance helps prevent false triggers from objects, pets, or children.
Home Automation Using Voice Commands
Link third-party smart assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri Shortcuts, IFTTT, SmartThings) to your SwitchBot account for voice control and scene triggering. This requires a SwitchBot Hub (sold separately) and enabling Cloud Services in the app.
Example Commands:
- "Alexa, close the curtains."
- "Hey Google, close my bedroom curtains."
- "Hey Siri, open the living room curtains."
Note: SwitchBot Hub required (sold separately).
Using Your Device with SwitchBot Remote
Control your SwitchBot Curtain with the SwitchBot Remote (sold separately). The remote has two buttons that can be configured via the app. One remote can control two grouped SwitchBot Curtain devices. Refer to the Remote's user manual for details.
