Product Description

The MEAN WELL XLG-240 series is a 240W LED AC/DC driver operating in constant power mode. It accepts a wide input voltage range from 100~305VAC and offers models with different rated currents from 700mA to 6.66A. With high efficiency up to 93% and a fanless design, the series operates reliably across a wide case temperature range of -40℃ to +90℃ under free air convection. The robust metal housing and IP67 ingress protection level make it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. The innovative environment-adaptive capability ensures reliable LED illumination in various application environments. The XLG-240 series complies with the latest international safety regulations, including IEC61347/GB7000.1-2015 and UL8750. The output and dimming circuits are designed with isolation for user and luminaire system safety during installation.

Technical Details & Performance

Block Diagram

The driver's internal circuitry includes an EMI Filter & Rectifiers, PFC Circuit with PFC Control, Power Switching with OLP/OTP/PWM Control, Output Rectifiers & Filter, and Detection Circuit for OCP/OVP. The output stage provides constant voltage (+V, -V) and dimming control (DIM+, DIM-) for the AB type.

Driving Methods of LED Module (I-V Operating Area)

The XLG-240 series operates in constant current mode. The I-V operating area graphs illustrate the recommended performance regions for different models (XLG-240-L, XLG-240-M, XLG-240-H) based on output current and voltage. For example, the XLG-240-L model supports a constant current range of 700mA to 1050mA with output voltages varying from 228V down to 178V. The XLG-240-M model covers 1400mA to 2100mA with voltages from 171V down to 90V, and the XLG-240-H model handles 4280mA to 6660mA with voltages from 56V down to 27V.

Dimming Operation (for AB-Type)

The XLG-240 series (AB-Type) offers a 3-in-1 dimming function, allowing output constant current adjustment via three methods applied between DIM+ and DIM- terminals:

Note: Minimum dimming level is approximately 8%. Output current can drop to 0% with 0Vdc, 0kΩ resistance, or 0% PWM duty cycle. High PWM frequencies (>2KHz) may trigger lighting at 10-15% PWM duty.

Performance Graphs

Output Load vs Temperature

The graphs show how the maximum allowable load (in %) varies with ambient temperature (Ta) and case temperature (Tc). For constant power mode, the maximum workable ambient temperature is 50°C (typical for 230VAC) or 40°C (typical for 110VAC). A soft-start status may occur at -30°C with full load and 110VAC input. The lifetime is also significantly affected by case temperature, with a steep decline in expected lifetime above approximately 65-70°C Tcase.

Static Characteristic

This graph illustrates the relationship between input voltage (60Hz) and output load (%). The output load remains relatively stable across a wide input voltage range, demonstrating robust performance.

Power Factor (PF) Characteristic

The power factor (PF) is plotted against load (%) at a constant case temperature of 75°C for different input voltages (115VAC, 230VAC, 277VAC). The PF remains high (above 0.9) across the load range, indicating efficient power utilization.

Total Harmonic Distortion (THD)

The THD is shown as a function of load (%) for the XLG-240-L model at 75°C case temperature, across different input voltages. THD is generally kept below 10% at loads above 50%.

Efficiency vs Load

Efficiency is plotted against load (%) for the XLG-240-L model at 75°C case temperature, across different input voltages. The XLG-240 series achieves high efficiency, up to 93%, with peak efficiency typically occurring at higher load levels.

Life Time

The expected lifetime (in thousands of hours, Kh) is shown as a function of case temperature (Tcase in °C). The lifetime is rated at 100,000 hours at lower case temperatures (up to around 60°C) and decreases significantly as the case temperature rises.
