State-of-the-Art Portability and Performance
The Behringer XENYX 1002B mixer offers premium features in a compact, portable package. It can be powered via a wall adapter or 9V batteries, making it ideal for on-the-go use. The mixer boasts XENYX mic preamps, known for their amazing sound quality and high headroom, providing a dynamic range of 130 dB and a wide bandwidth from below 10 Hz to over 200 kHz. The inclusion of a 3-band "British" EQ, inspired by legendary 1960s and 70s consoles, allows users to add warmth and musical character to their audio signals with excellent forgiveness.
With 60 mm faders and a user-friendly layout, the XENYX 1002B is designed for ease of use. It features four stereo channels, each accepting left/right or mono ¼" TRS/TR inputs, with three of these channels also accommodating microphones via separate Trim controls. For routing flexibility, the mixer includes one post-fader FX send and one pre-fader MON send per channel, along with main outputs, separate headphone outputs, and CD/Tape outputs.
Versatile Applications
The XENYX 1002B's compact size and flexible input scheme make it suitable for a variety of applications. It's an excellent choice for keyboardists needing to mix multiple instruments or sound modules for live or recording sessions. Singers performing with backing tracks, as well as instrumentalist/singers (e.g., acoustic guitar or piano bar performers), will find it indispensable for connecting to "house" sound systems.
In field operations, its ease-of-use, remarkable fidelity, and rugged reliability are highly valued by sports announcers for play-by-play commentary and by radio and TV reporters. The 9V battery option is particularly useful for newscasters and correspondents working in remote locations where mains power is unavailable. (Note: Two 9V alkaline batteries are required for normal operation, and three for phantom power).
Connectivity and Control
The mixer features balanced XLR microphone inputs with switchable phantom power (+18V) for condenser microphones. Mono channels include ¼" TRS/TS line inputs with dedicated insert jacks for external effects devices. The gain for these inputs is adjusted via a TRIM control, which sets the input signal level. A PAN control allows for signal placement within the stereo image. High-frequency content is adjusted with the HIGH EQ control (±15 dB @ 12 kHz), midrange with the MID EQ control (±15 dB @ 2.5 kHz), and bass with the LOW EQ control (±15 dB @ 80 Hz).
Stereo channels accept ¼" TRS/TR inputs. The mixer provides 2-Track ¼" & RCA inputs for connecting Tape/CD/MP3 decks and 2-Track RCA outputs for recording decks. A dedicated FX control manages the amount of signal sent to the FX Send output, and a MONITOR SEND level control adjusts the monitor output. A PHONES level control manages the headphone output. The main output level is controlled by a dedicated fader.
