Setting Up

Power Requirements

Connect the AC adaptor plugs in the following order:

1. Connect the AC adaptor to the DC IN jack.

2. Connect the AC adaptor to the AC outlet.

Note: The shape of the plug and outlet may vary by region.

WARNING: Use only the specified adaptor (page 20). Using the wrong adaptor can cause damage or overheating.

CAUTION: Ensure the AC outlet is easily accessible. If a malfunction occurs, immediately turn off the power and disconnect the plug.

Note: To disconnect the power adaptor, turn off the power and reverse the connection procedure.

For the Power Adaptor with a Removable Plug

Do not remove the plug from the power adaptor. If accidentally removed, slide the plug back into place without touching metallic parts, and push it in completely until it clicks.

WARNING: Ensure the plug remains attached to the AC adaptor. Using the plug alone can cause electric shock or fire. Avoid touching the metallic section and ensure no dust is present between the adaptor and plug.

Turning the Power On/Off

  1. Set the volume to the minimum.
  2. Press the [©] (Standby/On) button to turn on the power. The power lamp will illuminate.

To turn off the power, press the [©] (Standby/On) switch again.

CAUTION: Even when the power switch is off, the instrument is still supplied with a minimum level of electricity. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet when not using the instrument for extended periods.

Auto Power Off Function

This function automatically turns off the power after approximately 30 minutes of inactivity to save energy. You can disable this function if desired.

To disable the Auto Power Off function:

Setting the Volume

Use the [MASTER VOLUME] slider to adjust the overall keyboard sound volume.

Setting the Operation Confirmation Sounds

When you turn a function on/off or change a setting, the instrument produces sounds to confirm the action. These include an ascending sound for 'on', a descending sound for 'off', and clicks for other settings. Refer to the "Quick Operation Guide" (page 22) for a list of functions assigned to buttons and keys.

Setting the Operation Confirmation Sounds On or Off

Hold down [GRAND PIANO/FUNCTION] and press the C7 key. Each press toggles the setting between on and off. The default setting is 'on'.

Using Headphones

Connect a pair of stereo headphones with a 1/4" stereo phone plug to the [PHONES] jack. This will automatically mute the internal speakers.

CAUTION: Avoid listening with headphones at high volumes for extended periods to protect your hearing.

Using a Footswitch

The [SUSTAIN] jack is for connecting the included footswitch, which functions like a damper pedal on an acoustic piano. Optional FC3A, FC4A, or FC5 footswitches can also be connected. The FC3A supports the Half Pedal function.

Half Pedal function:

For a clearer, less muddled sound, especially in the bass register, partially release the pedal.

Note: Do not press the footswitch when turning the power on, as this can reverse its polarity. Ensure the power is off when connecting or disconnecting the footswitch or pedal.

  2. To exit from Dual: Press [GRAND PIANO/FUNCTION] again.

Adding Variations to the Sound – Reverb

This instrument offers several Reverb Types to add depth and expression to the sound, creating a realistic acoustic ambience. The appropriate Reverb Type is often selected automatically with each Voice, but you can change it manually.

To select a Reverb Type:

Hold down [GRAND PIANO/FUNCTION] and press one of the C5 – E5 keys.

Reverb Type List

Key Reverb Type Description
C5 Room Adds a continuous reverb effect, simulating acoustic reverberation in a room.
C#5 Hall1 Provides a bigger reverb sound, simulating the natural reverberation of a small concert hall.
D5 Hall2 Creates a spacious reverb sound, simulating the natural reverberation of a large concert hall.
D#5 Stage Simulates the reverb of a stage environment.
E5 Off No effect is applied.

Note: If Voice 1 has 'OFF' assigned, the Reverb Type for Voice 2 will be used.

To adjust Reverb Depth:

Hold down [GRAND PIANO/FUNCTION] and press the A4 key (decrease by one), B4 key (increase by one), or A#4 key (reset to default). The setting range is 0 (no effect) to 10 (maximum depth).

Playing Duo

This function allows two players to use the instrument simultaneously, each playing in their own section of the keyboard within the same octave range.

  1. Engage Duo: Hold down [GRAND PIANO/FUNCTION] and press the D3 key. The keyboard is split at E3, with the left section for Voice 2 and the right section for Voice 1.
  2. One person plays the left section, the other plays the right. Sounds from the left section play from the left speaker, and sounds from the right section play from the right speaker.
  3. To exit from Duo: Hold down [GRAND PIANO/FUNCTION] and press the D3 key again.

Note: The Split Point is fixed at E3. Engaging Duo while in Dual mode will exit Dual mode, using Voice 1 for the entire keyboard. Changing Voices will also exit Duo mode.

Pedal function in Duo: The footswitch connected to the [SUSTAIN] jack affects both the left and right sections.

Reference

Setting the Touch Sensitivity

Specify how the sound responds to your playing strength.

Hold down [GRAND PIANO/FUNCTION] and press one of the A2 – C3 keys.

Touch Sensitivity List

Key Touch Sensitivity Description
A2 Fixed Volume level remains constant regardless of playing strength.
A#2 Soft Minimal volume change with playing strength.
B2 Medium Standard piano touch response (default setting).
C3 Hard Volume changes significantly from pianissimo to fortissimo, requiring harder playing for louder sounds.

Note: Touch Sensitivity may have little or no effect on PIPE ORGAN and HARPSICHORD Voices, as these instruments are not typically dynamic.

Transposing the Pitch in Semitones

Shift the entire keyboard's pitch up or down in semitones to facilitate playing in different keys or to match the pitch of other instruments or vocalists. For example, a setting of "+5" means playing key C produces pitch F, allowing you to play a song in F major as if it were in C major. The setting range is -6 to +6.

Fine-tuning the Pitch

Adjust the instrument's pitch in approximately 0.2 Hz increments to match other instruments or CD music. The setting range is 414.8 Hz – 440.0 Hz – 466.8 Hz.

Other MIDI Settings

The following MIDI settings are fixed and cannot be changed:

Data Backup and Initializing

The following data is automatically maintained as backup data even when the power is turned off:

To initialize the backup data:

Hold down the C7 key (right-most key) and turn on the power to initialize the backup data to the factory default settings. The power lamp will flash during initialization.

NOTICE: Never turn off the power while initialization is in progress.

Note: If the instrument malfunctions, try executing the initialization.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause and Solution
The instrument does not turn on. Ensure the instrument is properly plugged in. Securely insert the AC adaptor plug into the instrument's jack and the power plug into a proper AC outlet.
The instrument turns off automatically even if no operation is done. This is normal due to the Auto Power Off function (page 10).
Noise is heard from the speakers or headphones. Interference from a nearby mobile phone may cause noise. Turn off the mobile phone or move it further away. For iPhone/iPad/iPod touch usage, enable "Airplane Mode" on the device to minimize communication-related noise.
The overall volume is low, or no sound is heard. The Master Volume may be set too low. Adjust it using the [MASTER VOLUME] slider (page 11). Ensure headphones or a conversion adapter are not connected to the headphones jack.
The pedal has no effect. Check the pedal cable/plug connection. Ensure it is securely inserted into the [SUSTAIN] jack (page 11).
The footswitch produces the opposite effect (e.g., pressing cuts off sound, releasing sustains). The footswitch polarity may have been reversed by pressing it when the power was turned on. Turn the power off and on again. Ensure the footswitch is not pressed during power-on.
