Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the advanced functions and settings of the Shanling ET3 CD Player. Users should first consult the Quick Start Guide for basic operations.

Power On/Off

To power on the ET3, ensure the power cable is connected and the rear panel switch is in the 'On' position. The front LED will show red and blue during startup, then turn red. Press the control wheel for 2 seconds to fully power on. To turn off, press the wheel for 2 seconds; the red LED will remain on. For complete power off, use the rear panel switch.

Changing Language

If the ET3 is in Chinese, follow these steps:

  1. Press the wheel to enter the Setup menu.
  2. Turn the wheel clockwise to scroll to "System setting" (Green gear icon) and press the wheel.
  3. Select "Language setting" (Yellow speech bubble icon) and press the wheel.
  4. Turn the wheel to select the desired language and press to confirm.
  5. Use the Back arrow button on the top panel to exit.

Digital Outputs

The ET3 functions as a digital transport for external DACs or Hi-Fi Receivers, supporting Coaxial, Optical SPDIF, AES/EBU, I2S, and USB Audio outputs. I2S is recommended for highest sound quality. USB Audio is prioritized; disconnect it if using other digital outputs.

Key Menu Items and Settings

Bluetooth Setting

Control Bluetooth On/Off, set audio quality (LDAC HQ recommended for Android, AAC for iOS). The actual codec depends on the transmitter's settings. The ET3 functions only as a Bluetooth receiver.

Wi-Fi Setting

Manage Wi-Fi On/Off, Smart Config for network connection, Wi-Fi File Transfer for accessing USB drive files via browser, DLNA, Airplay, and NAS server functions. Music Scan should be performed for NAS.

SyncLink

Enable or disable the SyncLink function.

Scan Music

Initiate a scan for music files on a connected USB Drive.

Switching Playback Modes

The ET3 functions as a CD Player, USB Drive Player, or Bluetooth Receiver. Switch modes by pressing the "SOURCE" button. The current mode is displayed on the screen. For DLNA or Airplay, the player automatically switches modes when connected via the app.

Using ET3 as a CD Player

Lift the CD cover (touching the central metal section), insert a CD, and close the cover. Wait for "Reading" message to finish. Playback starts by pressing the central Play/Pause button. To change CDs, press Stop, wait a few seconds, then remove the cover.

Using ET3 as a USB Drive Player

Connect a USB drive (up to 2TB recommended) to the front USB port. Press the "SOURCE" button to switch to USB mode. Playback starts from the first file. For full library access, connect via SyncLink. The ET3 supports various audio formats and Hi-Res playback up to 32bit/384 kHz and DSD256.

Using ET3 as a Bluetooth Receiver

Ensure Bluetooth is active and SyncLink is deactivated in the Setup menu. Press "SOURCE" to switch to Bluetooth mode. On a phone or tablet, search for "Shanling ET3" and pair. The ET3 will display the connected Codec.

Eddict Player Installation & Wi-Fi Connection

The Eddict Player app is required for Wi-Fi and SyncLink functions. Install it from the respective app stores:

Connecting ET3 to Wi-Fi Network

  1. On ET3, go to Wi-Fi Settings and activate Wi-Fi.
  2. Go to "Smart Config" on ET3; it will show "Network Disconnected".
  3. Ensure the phone is connected to the desired Wi-Fi network.
  4. Open Eddict Player, then the side menu (represented by three horizontal lines or similar icon).
  5. Click on "Wireless Distribution".
  6. Select "Shanling ET3" as the source, then "Next".
  7. Verify the displayed network name. If incorrect, select "Use another WiFi".
  8. Enter the Wi-Fi password and click "Start Distribution". The ET3 will enter connecting mode for 60 seconds.
  9. On the ET3, press the wheel to start connecting.
  10. Upon successful connection, the ET3 will display "Connected" and the network name.

Connecting ET3 to Wi-Fi Network over SyncLink

  1. Connect the smartphone to the ET3 using the SyncLink Function (refer to SyncLink Function section).
  2. Once connected, click the gear icon in the SyncLink menu to access ET3 settings.
  3. In settings, select "WiFi Distribution".
  4. Enter the exact SSID/Name and password of the Wi-Fi network.
  5. Click "Distribution" and wait for the ET3 to confirm connection.

SyncLink Function

SyncLink enables control for CD Playback and USB Drive Playback.

Connecting Using SyncLink Function

  1. On the ET3, go to Setup menu and ensure Bluetooth is activated.
  2. Activate the SyncLink function in the ET3's Setup menu.
  3. In the Eddict App, open the side menu.
  4. Click on "SyncLink".
  5. Enable "SyncLink Controller" (grant permissions if prompted).
  6. The app will search for devices; select "Shanling ET3" to pair.
  7. Devices will connect, and the Eddict Player app will switch to SyncLink mode.

SyncLink & CD Playback

If the ET3 is in CD playback mode, open the "Now Playing Screen" in the Eddict Player app (via the bottom bar). This screen allows control of CD playback (Play/Pause, Previous, Forward), track seeking, and switching Play Modes. Volume can be controlled via the phone/tablet's volume buttons.

SyncLink & USB Drive Playback

For USB Drive playback, the Eddict Player app allows browsing and control. Files can be browsed based on tags (Artist, Album, Genre after "Music Scan") or through the basic folder structure (select "Local Music" then swipe to "Folder" tab, then "USB1").
