World Car Awards 2022: Hyundai IONIQ 5 Achieves Historic Triple Win

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has achieved a remarkable triple victory at the 2022 World Car Awards, solidifying its position as a leader in the automotive industry. The electric vehicle was crowned:

The announcement was made live at the New York International Auto Show, concluding the "Road to World Car 2022" test-drive journey.

Key Figures and Recognition

Luc Donckerwolke, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, was recognized as the 2022 World Car Person of the Year. He participated in a Q&A session and accepted his award.

The winners were selected by a jury of 102 distinguished international automotive journalists from 33 countries through a secret ballot process, with votes tabulated by KPMG.

Award Eligibility Criteria

World Car of the Year: IONIQ 5 was selected from an initial list of 28 vehicles, then from three finalists. Eligibility required vehicles to be produced in at least 10,000 units per year, priced below luxury level in primary markets, and on sale in at least two major markets on two continents between January 1, 2021, and March 30, 2022.

World Electric Vehicle of the Year: IONIQ 5 was chosen from an initial list of 11 vehicles, then from three finalists. Eligibility required vehicles to be powered solely by electric motors, produced in volumes of at least 5,000 units per year, and on sale in at least two major markets on two continents between January 1, 2021, and March 30, 2022.

World Car Design of the Year: A design panel of six world design experts reviewed candidates and provided recommendations for the jurors' final vote. The experts included Gernot Bracht, Ian Callum, Patrick le Quément, Tom Matano, Victor Nacif, and Shiro Nakamura.
