Quick Start

Batteries and Charging

The U4 includes a USB charging cable, which you can connect to a USB charger adapter or other USB charging device.

Note: Turn off the power switch while charging. Please do not use the U4 while charging—this may reduce battery life.

Diagram Description: Illustrations show connecting the U4 to a power source via USB and the power switch. A table shows charging times versus battery life.

Charging Times Battery Life
15 minutes 30 minutes
30 minutes 1 hour
1 hour 2 hours
2.5 hours 5 hours

Storage: Always store the U4 at room temperature. When storing the unit, please check the battery state regularly and charge if necessary.

Power On: Turn the power switch to the 'on' position; the channel indicator will light up.

Pair Transmitter and Receiver

The U4 has six channels. Use the channel switch button to switch the channel. Set receiver and transmitter to the same channel. The blue LED on the receiver will be lit solidly when the connection was established successfully.

Single Transmitter and Multiple Receivers

If you want to add more receivers, just set all the receivers to the same channel as the transmitter.

Diagram Description: Shows a single transmitter connected to multiple receivers, all set to the same channel.

Volume Adjustment

WARNING: LISTENING TO AUDIO AT EXCESSIVE VOLUMES CAN CAUSE PERMANENT HEARING DAMAGE. USE AS LOW A VOLUME AS POSSIBLE.

Please do not adjust the volume to more than 70%.

Diagram Description: Illustration shows the receiver unit with headphones connected, with a volume knob and a warning indicator for volume levels.

Adjust Transmitter Levels

Adjusting Gain and Listening Volume: For the best audio quality, start by adjusting the levels from the mixer or audio source to optimize the signal-to-noise ratio.

Input Type Description
Line (+4 dBu) Use with mixers or other professional audio devices that send line-level signals.
Aux (-10 dBV) Use when connecting consumer audio devices such as portable audio players or computers.

Operation

Creating a Monitor Mix with AUX

  1. Connect the Transmitter to the Aux Send on the mixer that you want to use.
  2. Turn on the Receiver and gradually turn up the volume until you reach the desired level.
  3. Set up your mix: adjust the levels of each channel's send to the Aux output you're connected to, and the Aux channel's master output level.

Note: The channel faders on most mixers do not affect the volume of the Aux sends.

Diagram Description: Shows a mixer with an AUX send connected to the transmitter, and multiple receivers connected to the transmitter.

Creating Monitor Mixes with XLR

  1. Connect the Transmitter to the Mixer's main output or other XLR output.
  2. Turn on the Receiver and gradually turn up the volume until you reach the desired level.
  3. Set up your mix: adjust the fader levels of each channel as desired, as well as the master output level.

Diagram Description: Shows a mixer with an XLR output connected to the transmitter, and multiple receivers connected to the transmitter.

Multiple Transmitters and Multiple Receivers

When performers have different monitoring needs, they can use multiple transmitters: one for each aux output. Each receiver simply needs to be set to the same channel as the transmitter connected to the desired aux output.

If all performers are connected through the U4 monitoring system, no PA speakers or wedge monitors need to be used!

Diagram Description: Illustrates a band setup where multiple transmitters are connected to a mixer's aux outputs, each feeding multiple receivers for individual performers.

2.4 GHz Wireless Overview and Interference

U4 operates on the 2.4 GHz ISM band, which is also used by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other wireless devices. 2.4 GHz is an open band and, as such, does not require a license to be used worldwide.

Tips and Methods to Improve Wireless System Performance

  1. Keep more than 3 metres of distance between the U4 receiver unit and Wi-Fi transmitters, such as routers.
  2. If you experience interference from Wi-Fi devices in the vicinity, try changing to a different channel on the U4 transmitter and receiver.
  3. If necessary, shorten the distance between the transmitter and receiver units.

2.4 GHz Frequency Tables

Channel Frequencies
CHANNEL 1 2402 MHz, 2480 MHz, 2482 MHz
CHANNEL 2 2408 MHz, 2472 MHz, 2474 MHz
CHANNEL 3 2416 MHz, 2464 MHz, 2466 MHz
CHANNEL 4 2434 MHz, 2440 MHz, 2442 MHz
CHANNEL 5 2427 MHz, 2448 MHz, 2450 MHz
CHANNEL 6 2422 MHz, 2456 MHz, 2458 MHz

U2 channels 1-4 use the same frequencies as U3/U3C/U4 channels 1-4. A maximum of six U2/U3/U3C and U4 sets can be used at the same time.

Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
No sound
  • Check that the U4 Receiver's RF LED is lit.
  • Check whether the device has a signal sent to the Transmitter.
  • Check that the power switch is turned on for both the Transmitter and the Receiver.
  • Ensure that the U4 Transmitter and Receiver are on the same channel.
  • The Receiver can only be paired with one Transmitter at a time.
Distorted audio
  • Check the Line/Aux setting on the transmitter and verify that the meter is not overloading.
  • Check the levels going in and out of the mixer. Verify that no distortion occurs in each audio signal.
Low audio output at the receiver
  • Check receiver headphone output Volume level.
  • Check Transmitter mode (Line/Aux).
  • Check whether the device is sending sufficient signal level to the transmitter.
Signal instability: RF LED flickering See, "Tips and methods to improve wireless system performance" on page 16.
Unable to switch the channel The channel switch locks after 15 seconds. Double-click the channel button to unlock and reset.
Multiple connect Make sure the receivers are all set to the same channel as the transmitter you want them to receive audio from.
