Overview
The HS-FS100+ ("Flex Sensor") is a multifunction module featuring a temperature sensor, a controllable buzzer, and a port for an optional external light sensor. It is designed to integrate with various Z-Wave certified home controllers to automate events and scenes.
Applications
- Trigger events based on temperature changes.
- Use the built-in buzzer for audible notifications of home events.
- Connect an optional light sensor to trigger events when appliance indicator lights turn on or off (e.g., "Dehumidifier is full").
- Connect an optional water sensor to trigger events when water is detected near basement walls, plumbing fixtures, or appliances.
Configuration
The Flex Sensor includes a Z-Wave network button (for inclusion/exclusion), an LED indicator, and a micro USB connector for an AC power adapter (sold separately). A 3.5mm jack is provided for optional wired light or water sensors. Z-Wave commands are used to transmit temperature, light, and water detection data, and to control the built-in buzzer.
Physical Installation
Install 3 AAA batteries (not included) into the Flex Sensor. Mount the sensor in the desired location using the supplied double-stick tape, mounting plate, and hardware.
Z-Wave Network Installation
Inclusion
- Attach the light or water sensor cable, if applicable.
- Set your home automation controller to Z-Wave 'inclusion' mode.
- Press the Z-Wave network button on the front of the unit once. Wait for the inclusion process to complete, which may take some time.
Exclusion
- Set your home automation controller to Z-Wave 'exclusion' mode.
- Press the Z-Wave network button on the front of the unit once. Wait for the exclusion process to complete, which may take some time.
Reset
Use this procedure to reset the Flex Sensor to factory settings if the Z-Wave controller is missing or inoperable.
- Press and hold the Z-Wave button inside the sensor body for 10 seconds. The LED will flash 5 times upon successful reset.
Sensor Details
Built-in Temperature Sensor
The temperature sensor transmits temperature data to the controller via Z-Wave commands every 60 minutes when powered by batteries. This interval can be adjusted when the unit is line-powered. Refer to parameter settings for details.
Light Sensor
The light sensor can be placed over an indicator light. It notifies the controller with a Z-Wave command and a 5-beep sequence when light is detected. A command is sent when light is no longer detected. The sensor checks for light every 60 seconds on battery power or every 400 milliseconds on line power.
Buzzer
The built-in buzzer emits a single beep when activated by a Z-Wave command.
Z-Wave Association Information
The Flex Sensor supports Group 1 association. Group 1 reports the sensor's status and battery level when running on batteries.
Wake Up Settings
The Flex Sensor can be programmed to wake up and send its battery status based on a set polling interval. The default interval is 12 hours when added to HomeSeer systems on battery power. Wake up functionality is not supported when the unit is line-powered.
Available settings: 6-1500 minutes.
Default setting: 0 - Disables regular reporting, requiring manual wake-up for updates. Default when added to HomeSeer systems: 12 hours.
Notes
Important: Line-powered devices function as Z-Wave repeaters. If powering the Flex Sensor with batteries, include it into your network ON BATTERY POWER to prevent it from repeating Z-Wave commands, as this would quickly deplete batteries.
If your home controller supports "S2" security encryption, the Flex Sensor will be added as a 'secure' device. Otherwise, it will be added as a non-secure device. This difference does not affect the unit's functionality.
Advanced Configuration
Configuration parameters are accessible via the "Root device" in a HomeSeer System.
