Refrigerator Quick Start Guide
This guide provides essential operating instructions for your Whirlpool refrigerator. Ensure the appliance is installed correctly according to the Owner's Manual before operation.
Operating Instructions
Temperature Control
The temperature control is located at the front of the freezer compartment. It is factory preset for optimal performance. For initial setup, verify the control is set to the recommended setting. The recommended setting aims for a temperature near 37°F (3°C) under normal conditions. Allow 24 hours for the refrigerator to cool completely before adding food. Adjusting the temperature to a colder setting will not speed up the cooling process. The compressor will run continuously initially and then cycle on and off as needed. The exterior may feel warm, which is normal as heat is transferred to the room.
Adjusting Control
To adjust the refrigerator compartment temperature, press the Temp Setting button to cycle through the snowflake indicators, from least cold to coldest. Wait 24 hours between adjustments for the temperature to stabilize.
Cooling On/Off
To turn cooling off, press and hold the Temp Setting button for 3 seconds. No control panel lights will illuminate, but the main freezer light will still operate. To turn cooling back on, press and hold the Temp Setting button for 3 seconds. Control panel lights will illuminate when cooling is on.
Fast Cool
Use the Fast Cool feature for periods of high refrigerator use, large grocery loads, or warm room temperatures. Activate by pressing TEMP SETTING until all snowflake positions illuminate simultaneously. The refrigerator will remain in Fast Cool for 24 hours after reaching the extra-low temperature, then revert to the previous setting. Fast Cool can be manually turned off by selecting a desired temperature setting.
Over Temperature Alert (on some models)
This feature alerts you if the refrigerator temperature rises to 54°F (12°C) or higher. An alert tone will sound, and a red light will flash. Pressing Temp Setting (Over Temp Reset) once silences the tone and changes the light to a continuous illumination. The light remains on until the temperature drops below 54°F (12°C). If the red light flashes without a tone, the temperature exceeded the limit but has since returned to normal. Press Temp Setting (Over Temp Reset) once to turn off the indicator light.
Door Ajar Alarm (on some models)
This alarm sounds if the refrigerator door is left open for 5 minutes or longer while cooling is on, repeating every 2 minutes. Close the door to silence the alarm. To temporarily mute the alarm while the door is open (e.g., for cleaning), press Temp Setting on the control panel.
Refrigerator Features
Refrigerator Shelves
Store similar foods together and adjust shelves for different heights to reduce door opening time and save energy. To remove a shelf, lift it straight up and pull it out. To replace, lower the shelf onto the side wall supports.
Crisper Drawers
To remove a drawer, slide it straight out to the stop, lift the front, and slide it the rest of the way out. To replace, slide it back in, past the stop.
Crisper Cover
To remove the glass insert, hold it firmly, press up in the center until it rises above the plastic frame, and slide it forward. Lift the cover frame to remove. To replace, fit the back of the cover frame into the side wall supports, lower the front, slide the glass insert into the frame, and lower the front into place.
Crisper Humidity Control (on some models)
Adjust humidity using the '+' (closed) and '-' (open) settings. The '-' setting lets moist air out for fruits and vegetables with skins. The '+' setting retains moisture for fresh, leafy vegetables. For fruits, wash, dry, and store in a plastic bag in the crisper. For vegetables with skins, place in a plastic bag or container. For leafy vegetables, wash, drain, trim, and store in a plastic bag or container.
Door Bin
To remove a bin, tilt the front forward and slide it out. To replace, slide it in above the support and tilt it back into place.
