NATURAL HAZARD • SPIDERS: Spiders and small insects can climb into burner tubes, spin webs, build nests, and block gas flow, which is very strong and can cause a fire. Clean the burner prior to use after storing, at the beginning of the grilling season, or after one month of non-use.

The Fuel System

Gas grills are used safely by millions when following simple safety precautions. The fuel system components are designed for this grill and must not be replaced with other brands.

  • GAS BURNER: Constructed of tubular stainless steel. Requires inspection for insects/nests inside air intake slots.
  • BURNER VALVE/REGULATOR: A regulator/valve assembly. The regulator attaches to the burner, and a 1-pound propane cylinder threads into it. Only a factory-supplied gas valve/regulator must be used.

LP GAS REGULATOR CAUTION

The provided gas pressure regulator must be used. It is equipped with the required orifice and set for the correct outlet pressure for this appliance. Substituting any other device or manufacturer's regulator is dangerous and could result in serious injury.

LP GAS REGULATOR Installation:

The regulator is shipped loose and must be installed before operating. It is a "slip-fit" requiring no tools. See assembly instructions on page 6. The regulator may be removed after use. Turn the control knob to "OFF," disconnect the LP cylinder, and allow the grill to cool for at least 30 minutes before removing the regulator. Store the regulator in a clean, secure location. Keep the threaded cylinder connection area clean and free of foreign materials.

PROPANE FUEL:

Warning: Propane is a flammable gas. Improper handling may result in explosion, fire, or serious accident/injury. This grill operates with propane (LP) gas only. Caution: Do not connect with any gas supply other than propane. Propane gas is heavier than air and settles in lower areas; ensure adequate ventilation. The gas cylinder may be stored outside in a well-ventilated area out of reach of children when the grill is not in use.

LP GAS CYLINDER:

This grill is designed for a disposable 1 lb. propane cylinder (approx. 4" diameter, 7" long). The ROVSUN Table Top Grill does not include a cylinder; it must be purchased separately. The cylinder must meet U.S. DOT specifications (e.g., DOT-39 NRC232/290).

Safety Information & Package Contents

The LP gas cylinder must be used only outdoors in a well-ventilated space, not in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area. The ROVSUN Table Top Grill may be stored indoors if the LP gas cylinder is removed and stored outdoors. The cylinder connects directly to the gas regulator. Ensure threads engage correctly when connecting/disconnecting. Be careful not to strike the regulator against the grill or ground. Replace the protective cap over the threaded cylinder connection when removed. Contact your local gas supplier if you have difficulty connecting/disconnecting. Hand-tighten the cylinder connection until snug. Inspect for damage and leak test after each re-connection.

Leak Test Procedure:

Mix a solution of one part liquid detergent and one part water. Apply to the fitting and gas line. Bubbles indicate leaks. Re-tighten or re-seal any leaking joints.

Preparation

Before beginning assembly, installation, or operation, ensure all parts are present by comparing them with the package contents list and diagram. If any part is missing or damaged, do not attempt to assemble, install, or operate. Contact customer service for replacement parts.

  • The Grill is pre-assembled. The only assembly required is to connect the gas regulator.
  • Estimated Assembly Time: 5-8 minutes.
  • Tools Required for Assembly: Wrench.

Assembly Instructions

Follow these steps to assemble the regulator to the grill:

  1. Locate the gas regulator. Grasp it with the knob facing directly up. Line up the collar on the regulator with the open end of the burner tube.
  2. Screw the regulator into the open end of the burner tube.
  3. Once the regulator is fully seated, tighten it with a wrench. Turn the regulator so the knob faces forward.
  4. Note: Always ensure the regulator is secured in the fully locked position before attaching the propane cylinder.
  5. Ensure the gas control knob is in the "OFF" position. Check that threaded areas on the cylinder and regulator are clean. Screw the propane cylinder onto the regulator, ensuring threads engage correctly for a proper connection. To remove the cylinder, unthread it from the regulator.

A diagram illustrates the regulator connection to the burner tube and the propane cylinder attachment.

Gas Leak Test Procedure

To verify proper installation and check for leaks:

  1. In a small container, mix a solution of one part liquid detergent and one part water.
  2. Turn the gas supply on.
  3. Using a brush or spray bottle, apply the solution to the gas line and each joint.
  4. Bubbling of the solution indicates a leak.
  5. Re-tighten or re-seal any leaking joints.

Never use a naked flame to check for gas leaks.

Operation Instructions

Burner Valve / Regulator Control:

The burner control operates in the following positions, indicated by the pointer at the top of the regulator:

  • OFF: Stops the flow of gas to the burner.
  • PUSH TO TURN ON: Push "IN" on the knob to release it from the locked "OFF" position.
  • HIGH: Provides the highest gas flow and hottest cooking temperatures.
  • MED: Provides cooking temperatures between HIGH and LOW.
  • LOW: Provides the lowest cooking temperatures.

Cooking Temperature Settings:

  • HIGH – Approximately 450°F
  • MED – Approximately 400°F
  • LOW – Approximately 350°F

Note: A near-empty 1 lb. propane cylinder can significantly reduce internal pressure and affect regulator performance, potentially causing "hotter-than-normal" cooking temperatures as it empties. A disposable 1 lb. propane cylinder provides approximately 4-6 hours of cooking time.

Lighting Instructions

  1. Ensure the regulator is properly secured into the burner end.
  2. Ensure the propane cylinder is tightly threaded into the regulator (hand tighten only).
  3. Place the legs in the up position.
  4. Open the lid. Always open the lid when lighting.
  5. Press the spark button several times; a spark should appear at the end of the ignition needle.
  6. Push the gas burner control knob "IN" and turn it counterclockwise to the "lighting Position" while watching the burner flame.
  7. If ignition does not occur in 3-5 seconds, turn the control knob "OFF". Wait 5 minutes before attempting to re-light the grill.

With the burner lit, gently close the lid and allow the grill to warm up for 20-30 minutes prior to use.

Note: If the burner goes out for any reason, turn the control knob to the "OFF" position. Wait 5 minutes before attempting to re-light.

Operation Instructions: Turning the Grill Off

  1. Open the lid.
  2. Turn the regulator control knob to the "OFF" position.
  3. Caution: Do not attempt to re-light the grill without following all lighting instructions.
  4. Allow the grill body to cool at least 30 minutes before attempting to move or transport.

Flame Characteristics

Flames should be blue and stable with no yellow tips, excessive noise, or lifting. Yellow flames indicate insufficient air. Noisy flames or flames that lift away from the burner indicate too much air. Check the air shutter or burner ports for blockages by dirt, debris, or spider webs.

A diagram shows a typical flame pattern and proper flame height.

Adjusting the Flame & Using the Grill

To adjust for proper flame, use a Philips screwdriver to loosen the screw (6-1) located in the main igniter gas collector (6-2). Turn the screw clockwise to close the air shutter, and counterclockwise to open the air shutter. After adjusting, tighten the screw.

Using the Grill:

  1. Find a level surface to grill on.
  2. Allow the grill to warm up with the lid closed for 20-30 minutes prior to cooking.
  3. The Grill features an adjustable HIGH/MED/LOW control knob for flexible cooking temperatures: HIGH – Approximately 450°F, MED – Approximately 400°F, LOW – Approximately 350°F.
  4. You can cook in any weather, but extreme temperatures may slightly increase or decrease cooking times. Keep the grill out of excessive winds.
  5. The cooking times listed are suggestions; actual times vary based on meat thickness and desired preparation.

Grilling Suggestions:

  • Steak (T-Bone, thick cut, medium doneness): Grill 10 minutes on each side on MED setting.
  • Chicken (Quarters, average size fryer): Grill 30 minutes per side on MED setting. Check for doneness.
  • Pork (Ribs/chops): Grill 10-20 minutes per side on MED setting. Check for doneness.
  • Fish: Grill 20-30 minutes on LOW setting.
  • Turkey (Breast): Grill 10 minutes per pound or until internal temperature reaches 170°F on MED setting.

Care and Maintenance

Minimal care and maintenance are needed. Following these instructions will improve the grill's longevity and cooking quality. Ensure the cooking area is always kept free of combustible materials.

  • Outside Grill Parts: Stainless steel parts can be cleaned with warm soapy water or any stainless steel cleaner.
  • Cooking Grid and Grease Tray: The cooking grid is high-quality porcelain coated steel; brush it immediately after cooking while warm. The grease tray is also porcelain coated steel; clean with a flat scraper. Caution: Keep the grease tray clean and free of heavy buildup to ensure proper performance and prevent flare-ups.
  • Firebox: Use warm soapy water to clean. Do not allow grease to build up.
  • Drain Hole: Keep the drain hole clear of grease and food particles to allow drippings to drain properly into the grease tray.
  • General: Store the grill out of the weather when not in use. Caution: Do not store propane cylinders in enclosed areas. Wait at least 30 minutes after cooling before covering or moving the grill. Ensure combustion and ventilation air flow is not obstructed. A clogged tube can lead to a fire beneath the appliance.

This unit must be kept in an area free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.

Important Usage & Moving Instructions

Ensure all grill body openings are free of blockages. Make sure legs are in the up position when using the grill. Check burner air inlet openings for insect nests or blockages and ensure burner tube slots are clear.

When the grill is not in use, turn the control knob to "OFF" and remove the propane cylinder and regulator. For outdoor use only; if stored indoors, detach the cylinder and store it outdoors, out of reach of children.

Important First-Time Use:

It is important to light the grill and allow it to heat up for at least 30 minutes before placing food on the cooking grid. Some smoke is normal during initial operation. After initial heating, the grill is ready for use. A cooking spray can be used on the cooking grids for easier cleanup.

THIS COOKING APPLIANCE IS FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY AND SHALL NOT BE USED IN A BUILDING, GARAGE, OR ANY OTHER ENCLOSED AREA.

Moving Instructions:

Caution: Never move the grill with the burner lit. Ensure the control knob is in the "OFF" position. Disconnect the propane cylinder from the regulator and remove the regulator from the grill. Be sure the grill has completely cooled for at least 30 minutes. Close the lid and secure the latch. Place the legs in the down position. Use the handle to carry the grill.

Note: It is best to leave the grease tray attached to the bottom of the grill; some grease may continue to drip from the drain hole during transport.
