How it Works
The Vicks EasyCare+ Top Fill Filter Free Humidifier is designed to quietly provide visible cool mist and comforting cough and cold relief. This filter free humidifier has a built-in nebulizer that quietly vibrates the water at ultrasonic frequency to break the water droplets into a fine, cool mist that you can see and feel. The mist helps reduce respiratory and dry air discomforts by increasing humidity levels to help you breathe better and sleep more comfortably. Enhance your humidification experience by using Vicks VapoSteam or Vicks VapoPads for added comfort.

- Remove twist tie and extend power cord.
- Place on a firm, level, water resistant surface a minimum of 12 inches (30cm) from any walls.
- Plug adapter cord into the port on the back of the unit.
- Float Paddle Installation
Line up the Float Paddle with the dashed line float paddle shape on the bottom of the Reservoir. Place paddle over brackets. It does NOT snap in, it is simply set in place. The paddle can be gently placed in the brackets.
CAUTION: IMPROPER PLACEMENT OF THE FLOAT PADDLE COULD RESULT IN LEAKING OR WATER NOT FEEDING TO THE RESERVOIR.
NOTE: YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS FOR FILLING YOUR HUMIDIFIER'S WATER TANK: UNDER THE FAUCET AT THE SINK, OR WITH A PITCHER OF WATER AT THE HUMIDIFIER.
If filling at the sink, remove Tank using handles on the sides of the Base, carry to sink and fill with cool water. OR If filling at the humidifier, ensure Tank is securely seated on Base. Open Lid Flap and fill with cool water using a water pitcher.
NOTE: FILL TANK WITH COOL WATER. DO NOT FILL WITH WARM OR HOT WATER. DO NOT ADD ESSENTIAL OILS, MEDICATIONS, OR INHALANT LIQUIDS, SUCH AS VICKS VAPOSTEAM, TO THE TANK, ONLY THE MEDICINE CUP. DOING SO COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HUMIDIFIER AND VOID THE WARRANTY.
- Close the Lid Flap.
- If filled at the sink, carry the full Tank back using two hands and place back on Base.
CAUTION: USE CARE WHEN HANDLING WATER TANK TO AVOID UNNECESSARY IMPACT. BANGING OR DROPPING THE WATER TANK COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE TANK THAT WILL CAUSE LEAKING.
Operating Humidifier
- Plug Adapter Cord into the port on the back of the unit. With the Power Knob in the off position, plug humidifier into a polarized 120V outlet.
- CAUTION: TO AVOID ELECTRIC SHOCK DO NOT PLUG HUMIDIFIER INTO OUTLET WITH WET HANDS.
- Output: Turn the Power Knob clockwise to highest setting. It is recommended you set the output to high until you reach a comfortable humidity level.
- Position humidifier to direct mist output away from walls, furniture and bedding.
- Humidity Level: When a comfortable humidity level is reached, turn Power Knob to a lower setting. A comfortable humidity level is between 40–60%. To monitor your humidity level, use a humidity monitor such as the Vicks V70 (not included). If you notice condensation on the walls, windows or around unit, your humidity level is too high. Turn humidifier off.
Using Vicks Vapo Steam or Your Own Essential Oils (Not Included)
This humidifier features a Medicine Cup that can be used with your favorite essential oil or liquid inhalant (like Vicks VapoSteam) for added enjoyment. The cup is heated to help evaporate the oil. This is not a diffuser – the oil does not meet the water but is passively evaporated into the air. Essential oil and inhalant are not included.
- Turn off the humidifier.
- Add 1 Tablespoon Vicks VapoSteam or a few drops of essential oil to the Medicine Cup. Turn on the humidifier.
- To clean the Medicine Cup wait 5 minutes after turning the unit off. Then gently wipe residue from the cup with a soft cloth.
WARNING: DO NOT ADD ESSENTIAL OILS, LIQUID INHALANTS OR ANY ADDITIVES TO THE WATER. DOING SO CAN DAMAGE THE HUMIDIFIER AND VOID THE WARRANTY.

Water Quality and Your Humidifier
High mineral content in your water, also known as “hard water” may cause a white mineral residue to accumulate on surfaces in the room near the humidifier. This mineral residue is commonly referred to as "White Dust.” The higher the mineral content or hardness of your water, the greater the potential that you may have white dust. “White Dust” is not a result of a defect or flaw in the humidifier. It is a result of the amount of minerals suspended in the water you are using. If you live in a hard water area, the use of distilled water will minimize the production of white dust.
Weekly Cleaning
It is recommended that you empty the Water Tank and Reservoir when the unit is not in use, rinse and let them air dry. To keep your humidifier running efficiently, clean it regularly. Weekly cleaning is recommended. To properly clean your humidifier we recommend the separate processes of Scale Removal and Disinfecting shown below. THESE TWO PROCESSES MUST BE PERFORMED SEPARATELY.
CAUTION: BEFORE MOVING HUMIDIFIER BASE, TURN OFF, UNPLUG AND EMPTY THE TANK. All maintenance should be done in the kitchen or bathroom on a water resistant surface near a faucet. Do not wash any components of this humidifier in the dishwasher.
Instructions for Scale Removal
- Turn off and unplug the humidifier.
- Remove any accessories, and wipe any remaining residue from the Medicine Cup.
- Remove Water Tank from Base. Holding the Base, empty water from the Reservoir.
- Pour a minimum of 1 cup (1/4 liter) of undiluted distilled white vinegar in the Water Tank. Gently swish vinegar around in the Tank to wet entire inside of Tank.
- Place Tank on Base. Vinegar will drain into the Water Reservoir and loosen mineral buildup (scale) in the Reservoir and bottom of the Water Tank. There should be enough vinegar to cover the bottom inside of the Tank.
- Soak for 20 minutes, then remove Water Tank and slowly empty vinegar into sink. Rinse with tap water until the smell of vinegar is gone.
- Empty vinegar from Base and Reservoir area.
- Remove Float Paddle from Reservoir by lifting on the sides. Wipe Float Paddle and Reservoir area with a soft cloth to remove loosened minerals. If mineral build up is stubborn on the nebulizer, loosen with a soft tooth brush. Rinse the base making sure water does not enter the vented fan or power knob. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.
NOTE: NEBULIZER IS FRAGILE. DO NOT APPLY EXTREME PRESSURE.
- Place Float Paddle back in Reservoir. Position in place. For detailed instructions, refer to the Float Paddle Installation section.
Instructions for Disinfecting
Follow Steps 1-3 in Scale Removal Instructions in previous section.
NOTE: BLEACH MAY STAIN CLOTHES. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU WEAR RUBBER GLOVES DURING THIS PROCESS TO PROTECT YOUR HANDS.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon (2.5mL) of bleach to 1/2 gallon (1.9L) of water. Pour the bleach solution into the Tank wetting the entire inside with the bleach solution. Place the Mist Nozzle inside to also disinfect.
- NOTE: USING MORE THAN 1 TEASPOON OF BLEACH TO 1 GALLON (3.8L) OF WATER MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE HUMIDIFIER.
- Place Tank on Base. Bleach solution will drain into the Water Reservoir.
- Soak for 20 minutes, then remove the Water Tank and slowly empty bleach solution into sink. Wearing rubber gloves carefully remove the Nozzle. Rinse Tank and Nozzle with water until the smell of bleach is gone.
- Empty bleach solution from Base and Reservoir area. Carefully rinse, making sure water does not enter the vented fan or power knob, until the smell of bleach is gone.
- Remove Float Paddle from Reservoir by lifting on the sides and rinse.
- Using a soft cloth wipe the Base, VapoPad Door, Medicine Cup, Chimney, Float Paddle, and Mist Nozzle.
- Place Float Paddle back in Reservoir. Position in place. For detailed instructions, refer to the Float Paddle Installation section.
CAUTION: IMPROPER PLACEMENT OF THE FLOAT PADDLE COULD RESULT IN LEAKING OR WATER NOT FEEDING TO THE RESERVOIR.
End-Of-Season Care And Storage
Follow the CLEANING instructions when the humidifier will not be used for at least one week, or it is the end of the season. At the end of the season, remove any accessories used with the humidifier and allow the humidifier and accessories to dry completely before storing.
