Before Using Your Dryer

Please read this booklet to ensure your dryer is installed and used properly for best results and longest life. You are responsible for ensuring your dryer is installed by a qualified installer, properly leveled in a well-ventilated room on a floor that can support its weight, connected to the right electrical supply and grounding, connected to fuel and exhaust systems, used only for its intended purpose, properly maintained, kept out of the weather, and not run where explosive fumes may be present. It should not be used by children or anyone unable to operate it properly.

Remove the Consumer Buy Guide label before using. Wipe out the drum with a damp cloth to remove dust.

See the Dryer Guide for drying tips, information about permanent press and knits, instructions for drying special items, and things not to be dried. See installation instructions for complete information.

Safety First

To prevent serious injury, DO NOT allow children to operate, play with, or crawl inside the dryer.

For Your Safety

If you smell gas:

  1. Open windows
  2. Don't touch electrical switches
  3. Extinguish any open flame
  4. Immediately call your gas supplier

For Your Safety

Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance.

Safety

Never operate your dryer without replacing all panels (lower front, access or service).

Please read this manual. Follow the instructions to help you get the best drying results. Save the manual for future use.

Loading Your Dryer

For best drying results and energy savings, sort dryer loads carefully. Separate loads according to fabric type and weight.

Allow room for items to tumble freely; the load will dry faster with fewer wrinkles. When drying permanent press, dry smaller-than-normal loads for best wrinkle removal. Use a mesh bag to hold small items like baby socks.

Read the Dryer Guide for more hints on sorting and loading.

Understanding Your Dryer

This dryer has a setting for TIMED DRYING, like most other dryers. It also has two automatic cycles: AUTOMATIC REGULAR and AUTOMATIC PERMANENT PRESS. These automatic settings allow you to choose how dry you want the load instead of how long you need to dry it. For example, in the AUTOMATIC REGULAR Cycle, you can set the Cycle Control Knob anywhere between VERY DRY and LESS DRY. The Cycle Control Knob won't move until the load begins to get as dry as the setting you selected.

The AUTOMATIC PERMANENT PRESS Cycle operates similarly but has a longer cool-down time at the end. The cool-down is important to help keep wrinkles from setting into permanent press items. The TIMED DRYING Cycle can be used for a set number of minutes, or for damp drying, fluffing, or tumbling items without heat. This Use & Care Guide contains suggestions on how to use your dryer for best results and longest useful life. Please read it carefully.

Lint Screen

The lint screen is located under the lid on top of the dryer. Clean the lint screen before each load. A screen blocked by lint can cause longer drying times.

CAUTION: Do not operate the dryer with the lint screen removed or not securely in place, as it may cause overheating, possible damage to fabrics and dryer parts, or create a fire hazard.

To remove the screen, open the lid and pull the screen straight out. Roll the lint off the screen with your fingers. DO NOT rinse the screen or wash it, as wet lint is hard to remove. When replacing the screen, push it firmly into place. Close the lid.

Using Your Dryer

  1. Put the sorted load in the dryer and close the door tightly.
  2. Turn the Cycle Control Knob to the cycle you want. Use Automatic Cycles for most loads, starting with the pointer at the middle of an Automatic Cycle (see page 6 for more information). NOTE: In Automatic Cycles, the Cycle Control Knob does not keep moving; it starts and stops depending on the heat and dryness of the load. Use TIMED DRYING for drying a certain number of minutes, or for damp drying, fluffing, or tumbling items without air.
  3. Set TEMPERATURE SELECTOR to the drying temperature needed for the load (see page 5 for suggested settings).
  4. Push the Start Button. Make sure the door is closed and the Cycle Control is set. If the door is opened during the cycle, the dryer will stop. To restart, close the door and push the Start Button.
  5. To stop the dryer: Open the door, or turn the Cycle Control Knob to one of the OFF positions. To change the setting while the dryer is running, turn the Cycle Control Knob either way so it points to the desired setting. NOTE: The Cycle Control Knob should point to OFF when the dryer is not being used.

IMPORTANT: To help reduce wrinkling, take the load from the dryer as soon as tumbling stops. This is very important for permanent press, knits, and other synthetic fabrics.

Setting Drying Times

Modern dryers are designed with drying temperatures needed to safely handle modern fabrics. Cool-down times have been added to heat settings, which may result in slightly longer drying times. The time it takes to dry a load depends on:

Selecting Cycles and Temperature Settings

Choose the correct settings according to the chart below:

TYPE OF LOADDRYING CYCLETEMPERATURE SELECTOR

KNITS - LOW
DELICATELY CONSTRUCTED FABRICS - Sheer Curtains (2 or 3 panels)AUTOMATIC PERMANENT PRESSGENTLE - EX-LOW
FOAM RUBBER ARTICLES - Pillows, bras, etc.TIMED DRYINGFLUFF - AIR

To damp dry clothes for ironing, set control in the TIMED DRYING Cycle for 15 to 25 minutes.

MIXED LOAD: If you dry a load of various weights of fabrics, select the cycle for the lighter weight fabric. When the dryer stops, remove the dry articles and reset the control.

Using the Automatic Settings

With AUTOMATIC REGULAR and AUTOMATIC PERMANENT PRESS, you select how dry you want the load to be. The dryer is designed to shut off automatically when loads are as dry as the setting. Use AUTOMATIC REGULAR Cycle for most family loads. During the last five minutes, the load tumbles without heat to make it easier to handle. Use AUTOMATIC PERMANENT PRESS Cycle for permanent press, knits, and other synthetic fabrics. The last 10 minutes are without heat; this cool-down time helps keep wrinkles from setting in.

For the first few loads, set the Cycle Control Knob to point in the middle between VERY DRY and LESS DRY.

When the dryer stops, feel the items in the load. If they are about how you like them, keep using this setting. If the items are drier than you like, use a setting nearer LESS DRY or COOL DOWN next time. If the items are not as dry as you want, use a setting nearer VERY DRY next time you dry a load like that. After dry-gating loads, you will find a favorite setting to use.

FLUFF AIR

This temperature setting is useful for fluffing bedding, pillows, and clothing, or dusting drapes. It is also best used when damp drying heat-sensitive items.

FLUFF AIR should be used for items like plastic shower curtains, rubber-backed rugs, some pillows, stuffed toys, etc.

TUMBLE PRESS Control

This setting is useful for removing wrinkles from packing in suitcases or closets. TUMBLE PRESS helps put them back into their pre-set shape.

For best results, use TUMBLE PRESS with only a few items at a time; put them on hangers or fold them as soon as the dryer stops.

End-of-Cycle Signal

A signal will let you know that the dryer has stopped. The signal is helpful when drying permanent press, synthetics, and other items that should be taken out as soon as the dryer stops. The signal cannot be turned off and is not adjustable.

Using the Drying Rack

The drying rack lets you dry items that you may not want to tumble, like sneakers, stuffed toys, etc.

  1. Fit the rear legs of the rack into the grooves on the back wall of the dryer. Push them in and let the front legs of the rack down on the front of the dryer.
  2. Put items to be dried on top of the rack. Allow space between them for air to move around.
  3. The rack does not move, but the drum turns. Be sure nothing hangs over the edges of the rack. Do not hang items from the rack.
  4. Close the door and turn the Cycle Control Knob to a time setting in the TIMED DRYING Cycle.
  5. Drying time will depend on how much moisture the items hold. Suggested drying temperatures are given in the following chart.
  6. Push the Start Button.
  7. To remove the rack, push it back, lift up, and pull out.
