Safety First

To prevent serious injury, DO NOT allow children to operate, play with, or crawl inside the dryer.

For Your Safety

Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance.

Safety

Never operate your dryer without replacing all panels (lower front, access or service).

Before Using Your Dryer

Please read this booklet to be sure your dryer is installed and used properly. It will help you get the best results and longest life your dryer was designed to give.

You are personally responsible for making sure that your dryer...

  • Is installed by a qualified installer.
  • Is installed in an area protected from the weather.
  • Is properly installed and leveled on a floor that can support the weight.
  • Is located in an area where the temperature is above 45°F (7.2°C).
  • Is connected to the right kind of outlet, electric supply, and grounding.
  • Is properly connected to exhaust systems.
  • Is used only for normal household drying needs.
  • Is properly maintained.
  • Is not run where there may be explosive fumes.
  • Is not used by children or anyone unable to operate it properly.

Remove the Consumer Buy Guide label before using your dryer. It will be easier to remove.

Wipe out the drum with a damp cloth to remove any dust.

See the installation instructions for complete information.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: See the Dryer Guide for drying tips, information about permanent press and knits, instructions for drying special items, and for things not to be dried in your dryer.

Loading Your Dryer

For best drying results and energy savings, sort dryer loads carefully. Separate loads according to the type of fabric and weight. For example:

  • Dry heavy fabrics (denims, towels, cottons) separately from light fabrics, permanent press, synthetics.
  • Separate lint givers (towels, sweatshirts, etc.) from lint takers (synthetics, blends, permanent press).
  • Keep dark colors and light colors separate.
  • Keep colorfast items away from non-colorfast fabrics.

Allow room for items to tumble freely. The load will dry faster with fewer wrinkles.

When drying permanent press, dry smaller-than-normal loads for the best wrinkle removal.

Use a mesh bag to hold small items such as baby socks.

Read the Dryer Guide for more hints on sorting and loading.

Suggested Loads

FABRIC TYPEMIXED LOADUNMIXED LOAD
Permanent Press or Knits1 dress
2 pairs slacks
2 blouses

2 pantsuits, OR
3-4 dresses.
Medium Weight1 pair pajamas
2 pillowcases
3 shirts
sets of underwear
1 king or queen-size sheet OR
1 double sheet and 2 pillowcases
OR
2 single sheets and 2 pillowcases
Heavyweight1 work shirts
2 work pants
8 bath towels, OR
6 bath towels, 3 hand towels and 6 washclothes, OR
3 pairs of jeans.

Using Your Dryer

  1. Put the sorted load in the dryer and close the door tightly.
  2. Turn the Cycle Control Knob to a cycle and time.
    • Turn the Control Knob either way until it points to the number of minutes you want in the cycle you want.
    • Use the NORMAL Cycle for regular family loads such as towels, sheets, clothes, etc. The last 5 minutes in this cycle are without heat to cool down the load.
    • Use the PERMANENT PRESS Cycle for permanent press fabrics and synthetics. The last 10 minutes of this cycle are without heat to cool down the load and help keep wrinkles from setting in.
    • Use the AIR Cycle to fluff or damp dry items that must not be heated.
    • Drying plastic or rubber items with heat may damage the items or be a fire hazard. Examples of no-heat items include plastic shower curtains, tablecloths, rubber backed rugs, overshoes, and foam-rubber stuffed toys or pillows.
  3. Push the Start Button.
    • Make sure the dryer door is closed and the Cycle Control Knob is set to a cycle and time.
    • If the dryer door is not closed, the dryer will not start.
    • If the dryer door is opened while the dryer is running, the dryer will stop. To restart the dryer, close the door and push the Start Button.
  4. To stop the dryer:
    • Open the door.
    • Or turn the Cycle Control Knob to one of the OFF positions.
    • To change the setting while the dryer is running, turn the Cycle Control Knob, either way, so it points to the setting you want.

IMPORTANT: To reduce wrinkling, take the load from the dryer as soon as tumbling stops. This is very important for permanent press, knits, and other synthetic fabrics.

NOTE: The Cycle Control Knob should point to OFF when the dryer is not being used.

Setting Drying Times

Modern dryers are designed to use drying temperatures needed to care for modern fabrics. Cool-down times have been added to heat cycles. You might notice slightly longer drying times.

The time it takes to dry a load depends on:

  • The kind of fabric, its weight, and the size of the load. A large load of jeans can take a lot longer to dry than a small load of light synthetics.
  • The amount of moisture in the load. Towels hold a lot of moisture; synthetics don't. Synthetics dry faster.
  • Temperature of the rinse water. Cold rinses help save on energy and wrinkles, but a cold load will take slightly longer to dry than a warm one.
  • Lint screen. A full lint screen slows the air flow and can cause drying time longer.
  • Room temperature. The dryer heats room air. If the room air temperature is not above 45°F (7.2°C), drying time will be longer and removal of wrinkles may be poor.
  • Proper installation and exhaust system. For the fastest possible drying time, installing and exhausting your dryer properly is important. See installation instructions.
  • Voltage used. Your dryer operates on 240-volt household current. Drying time will be longer if used on 208 volts.

Be careful not to overdry. Overdrying can cause shrinkage, damage to some fabrics, and static cling.

Selecting Cycles

Select the correct cycle according to the chart below:

TYPE OF LOADCYCLE
COTTONS
HEAVY - Bedspreads, mattress pads, quilts
MEDIUM AND LIGHTWEIGHT - Shirts, dresses, sheets, diapers, towels, work clothes
NORMAL
PERMANENT PRESS
HEAVY - Work clothes, jackets, raincoats, etc.
MEDIUMWEIGHT - Shirts, uniforms, dresses, slacks, etc.
PERMANENT PRESS
KNITS
HEAVYWEIGHT - COTTONS, RAYONS, BLENDS - T-Shirts, slacks, polo shirts, etc.
LIGHTWEIGHT - SYNTHETIC FIBERS (polyester, acrylic, etc.) AND BLENDS - Lingerie, blouses, dresses, etc.
PERMANENT PRESS
DELICATELY CONSTRUCTED FABRICS - Sheer Curtains (2 or 3 panels)PERMANENT PRESS
FOAM RUBBER ARTICLES - Pillows, bras, etc.
Plastic shower curtains, tablecloths
Rubber backed rugs
AIR
HEAT SENSITIVE FABRICS - Olefin, nylon, etc.AIR

To Damp Dry clothes for ironing, set control in the NORMAL Cycle for 15 to 20 minutes.

MIXED LOAD: If you dry a mixed load of various weights of fabrics, select the cycle for the lighter weight fabric. When dryer stops, remove the dry clothes and reset the control.

Fluff Air

The AIR Cycle is useful for fluffing and deodorizing clothing, or dust-mopping items. It is best to use when drying heat-sensitive items.

Drying plastic or rubber items with heat may damage the items or be a fire hazard.

The AIR Cycle should be used for such items as plastic shower curtains, tablecloths, rubber-backed rugs, some pillows, stuffed toys, etc.

  • Turn the Cycle Control Knob to the AIR Cycle.
  • Push the Start Button.

Tumbling to Remove Wrinkles

When permanent press and synthetic knits are wrinkled from packing in suitcases or crowded in closets, your dryer can help put them back into their pre-set shape.

  • Set Cycle Control Knob to PERMANENT PRESS for 20 minutes.
  • Push the Start Button.
  • For best results, tumble only a few items at a time. Put them on hangers or fold them as soon as the dryer stops.

[Image Description: A dial showing PERMANENT PRESS settings from 15 to 75 minutes.]

Lint Screen

The lint screen is inside the dryer drum on the back wall. Clean it before each load. A screen that's blocked by lint can cause longer drying times.

CAUTION: Do not operate the dryer with the lint screen removed or not securely in place, as it may cause overheating, possible damage to fabrics and dryer parts, or create a fire hazard.

To clean the lint screen:

  • Pull the lint screen straight out on the lint screen by using the two finger holes.
  • Squeeze lightly on the body of the lint screen and pull the cover off.
  • Roll the lint off the screen with your fingers. DO NOT rinse the screen or wash it. Wet lint is hard to remove.
  • Replace the cover on the body of the lint screen. Then push it straight back into place. You will hear a click when the lint screen snaps into place.

[Image Description: Illustration showing how to clean the lint screen by pulling it out, removing lint, and reinserting it.]

End-of-Cycle Signal

A signal will let you know that the dryer has stopped.

The signal is helpful when you are drying permanent press, synthetics, and other items that really should be taken out as soon as the dryer stops.

The signal can't be turned off and it is not adjustable.

If You Need Service or Assistance

We Suggest You Follow These Four Steps:

1. Before calling for assistance...

Performance problems often result from little things you can find and fix yourself without tools of any kind.

DRYER DOES NOT START

  • Is electric power plugged in?
  • Is the dryer door closed tightly? Your dryer has a switch by the door that shuts off the dryer if the door is opened.
  • Did you push the Start Button?
  • Check circuit breakers or both fuses in the fuse box.

DRYER RUNS BUT DOES NOT HEAT

  • Is the Cycle Control Knob set correctly? The last 5 minutes are cool-down time in NORMAL; the last 10 minutes in PERMANENT PRESS are without heat.

DRYING TIME IS LONGER THAN USUAL

  • Check the lint screen. Remove lint. Keep the screen clear for best drying results and times.
  • Modern dryers are designed to dry at the cooler temperatures needed by modern fabrics. They may need more time than you are used to.
  • Your dryer operates on a 240-volt current. It will need more time if using 208 volts.
  • Room temperature is cold.
