Whirlpool Dryer Quick Start Guide
This guide provides essential information to help you get started with your Whirlpool dryer, covering operating instructions, safety precautions, button functions, cycle selection, and status indicators.
Operating Instructions & Safety Warnings
WARNING: Fire Hazard
No washer can completely remove oil. Do not dry anything that has ever had any type of oil on it (including cooking oils). Items containing foam, rubber, or plastic must be dried on a clothesline or by using an Air Cycle. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or fire.
WARNING: Explosion Hazard
Keep flammable materials and vapors, such as gasoline, away from the dryer. Do not dry anything that has ever had anything flammable on it (even after washing). Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, explosion, or fire.
General Safety: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, read the IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS, located in your appliance's Owner's Manual, before operating this appliance.

Cycle Guide - Normal Cycle
This dryer features a user interface designed to help you select the optimal cycle for your load. The "What to Dry" and "How to Dry" layout guides you through two easy steps:
- Determine the items in the load ("What to Dry").
- Select how you want the dryer to dry them ("How to Dry").
Modifiers are preset but can be adjusted. For energy savings and enhanced fabric care, use Automatic cycles, which measure temperature and moisture to stop the dryer when the selected dryness level is reached. Dryer performance may vary with service voltage less than 240V.
Cycle Guide Example:
What to Dry | How to Dry | Description |
---|---|---|
Baby clothes, Blankets, Cotton undergarments, Colored napkins | Regular | Normal - Automatic Sensor cycle stops when dryness level is reached. See online "Cycle Guide" for details. |
Whites | Normal | Automatic Sensor cycle stops when dryness level is reached. |
Sheets | Normal | Automatic Sensor cycle stops when dryness level is reached. |
Colors | Normal | Automatic Sensor cycle stops when dryness level is reached. |
Note: Government energy certifications for this model were based on the Regular + Normal Cycle, Highest temperature setting, Normal Dryness Level, and EcoBoost™ On. The default settings were adjusted to match these certifications.
Cycle Status Indicators
- Sensing: Indicates the moisture sensor is operating during Sensor Cycles.
- Wet: The load is still wet or the cycle just started.
- Damp: The load is partially dried; items can be removed for ironing or hanging.
- Cool Down: The dryer has finished drying with heat and is tumbling without heat to cool the load and reduce wrinkling.
- Check Vent: Indicates a potential issue with airflow through the dryer and vent system. This light may illuminate if a blocked vent or low airflow is detected. Refer to online troubleshooting for solutions. The light clears upon cycle completion, power touch, or door opening if the issue is resolved.
- End: The selected cycle has finished, and the load can be removed.
- Control Lock: Illuminates when the controls are locked.
