Product Overview
The Citizen Promaster Dive Chronograph is a robust diver's watch featuring an electronic depth meter and a chronograph function. Designed for underwater exploration, it combines analog timekeeping with advanced dive-specific features, ensuring reliability and precision for divers.
Key Features
- Electronic Depth Meter: Measures depth up to 50 meters with a depth sensor.
- Chronograph: Allows timing of events with stopwatch functionality.
- Water Resistance: Rated for 200 meters (20 bar), meeting ISO 6425 standards for diver's watches.
- Analog Time Display: Features hour, minute, and second hands, plus a 24-hour dial.
- Date Display: Includes a date window with a quick-set function.
- Durable Construction: Built to withstand the demands of diving and water sports.
Getting Started
Initial Setup
Before first use or after battery replacement, ensure the watch is properly set. This involves setting the depth sensor and function indicator to the 12:00 position.
Setting Time and Date
- Unscrew the crown (?) by rotating it counter-clockwise.
- Pull the crown out to the second position.
- Set the time using the crown. Ensure the 24-hour hand correctly indicates AM/PM.
- To set the date, pull the crown to the first position and rotate it counter-clockwise.
- Push the crown back in and screw it securely clockwise to its original position.
Operating the Crown
The crown (?) is used for setting time, date, and other functions. Always ensure it is screwed down tightly after use to maintain water resistance. Do not operate the crown or buttons when wet.
Using the Watch Functions
Dive Mode
To enter Dive Mode: Hold [Button 1] for 2 seconds. The mode indicator will show 'DV', and the depth sensor will read '0'. The depth meter automatically measures and displays depth from 0 to 50 meters, with 1-meter increments. If depth exceeds 50 meters, the 'Over Zone Mark' (V) will be displayed until the depth returns to 50 meters or less. Press [Button 2] to view the maximum depth recorded during the last dive. Hold [Button 1] for 3 seconds to return to Time Mode.
Chronograph Mode
To enter Chronograph Mode: Press [Button 1] once. The watch will display elapsed time. The chronograph can measure up to 50 minutes. Use [Button 2] to start/stop the stopwatch. Press [Button 1] after stopping to reset. For split times, press [Button C] while the stopwatch is running. The 1/20 second hand can be displayed on the minute hand by pressing and holding [Button B] for measurements exceeding one minute.
Safety and Precautions
Diving Safety
- Always receive proper diving instruction before use.
- Dive with a partner; the watch is not a substitute for a dive buddy.
- The watch is suitable for sport diving up to approximately 30 meters, though the depth meter is calibrated to 50 meters.
- Ensure timely battery replacement. Battery life is approximately 2 years, but varies with usage. Battery replacement must be performed by an authorized Citizen Service Center.
- Rest adequately after diving. Avoid flying or ascending to high altitudes immediately after a dive to prevent decompression sickness.
- Use the depth meter as an auxiliary tool only.
- Avoid rapid ascents to the surface, which can be dangerous. Ascend at a safe speed, recommended as 10 meters or less per minute.
Depth Meter Limitations
- Accuracy may be affected at altitudes above 4000 meters.
- The depth meter is calibrated for standard seawater (1.025 density). Readings in freshwater will be approximately 2.5% higher.
- The depth meter is not accurate outside the recommended temperature range of +10°C to +40°C.
- The watch is not designed for emergency use or to prevent hazardous situations.
- It is not suitable for measuring pressure other than water pressure or for use in helium-rich environments.
General Precautions
- Low Battery: If the second hand moves in 2-second intervals, the battery is low. The watch may automatically switch to Time Mode. Replace the battery promptly.
- Malfunction: If the watch stops, shows incorrect data, or the depth meter malfunctions (Function Hand points to 'Over Zone Mark' in Dive Mode), cease use and consult a service center.
- Handling: Avoid dropping the watch or subjecting it to strong shocks.
- Chemicals: Keep the watch away from solvents, fuels, paint thinner, alcohol, and other harsh chemicals, as they can damage the case and strap.
- Magnetism: Keep away from strong magnetic fields (over 60 Gauss).
- Static Electricity: The watch's internal circuits are sensitive to static discharge.
Maintenance and Care
Cleaning
Wipe the watch case, crystal, and strap with a soft, dry cloth. For metal bracelets, use a toothbrush with mild soap and water. For rubber or resin straps, use water only; avoid solvents.
Water Resistance
The 200m water resistance rating is maintained under normal use. Always ensure the crown is screwed down tightly before water exposure. For battery replacement or any repairs, contact an authorized Citizen Service Center. Do not attempt to open the watch case yourself.
Battery Replacement
Battery replacement is recommended every 2 years or as needed. This service should only be performed by a Citizen Service Center, which will also check water resistance and replace seals if necessary. Note that battery replacement will clear any stored maximum depth data.

Troubleshooting
Low Battery Indicator
If the second hand begins to move in 2-second intervals, the battery is low and needs replacement. The watch may automatically revert to Time Mode from Dive or Chronograph modes.
Hand Misalignment (Total Reset)
If any hands (Function Hand, Mode Hand, Chronograph hands) are not in their correct zero positions after mode changes or battery replacement, a 'Total Reset' procedure is required:
- Unscrew the crown (?) to the second position.
- Simultaneously press and release [Button 1] and [Button 2]. The Function Hand should move slightly.
- Press and hold [Button 2] to synchronize the Mode Hand and Function Hand to the 0 position.
- Press and hold [Button 1] to set the Chronograph Second Hand to the 0 position.
- Set the correct time and date as per the instructions above.
- Screw the crown (?) back in securely.
If the Function Hand is misaligned when entering Dive Mode, use the crown and buttons to adjust it to the 0 position.
