Child Safety: Proper Television Placement Matters

The Consumer Electronics Industry cares about making home entertainment safe and enjoyable. All televisions, new and old, must be supported on proper stands or installed according to manufacturer recommendations. Improper placement on furniture may lead to the TV falling and causing injury.

Tune In To Safety:

  • Always follow manufacturer recommendations for safe installation and use.
  • Never allow children to climb on or play on the television or furniture.
  • Never place the TV on furniture that can easily be used as steps.
  • Always install the TV where it cannot be pushed, pulled over, or knocked down.
  • Always route cords and cables to prevent tripping hazards.

Wall or Ceiling Mount Your Television:

  • Contact your retailer for professional installation if unsure.
  • Use a mount recommended by the manufacturer and safety certified.
  • Follow all instructions from TV and mount manufacturers.
  • Ensure the wall or ceiling is appropriate for mounting.
  • Televisions are heavy; a minimum of two people are required for mounting.

Moving an Older Television:

  • Place older CRT televisions on sturdy, appropriate furniture.
  • Never place older CRT TVs on dressers where children might climb.
  • Ensure older CRT TVs do not hang over the edge of furniture.

Important Safeguards

Electric Shock Hazard: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not remove covers or expose the device to rain or moisture. No user-serviceable parts are inside. Refer servicing to qualified technicians.

CAUTION: Risk of electric shock. Do not open.

WARNING: Stability Hazard. A falling television can cause serious injury or death. Take precautions:

  • Always use recommended stands or mounting methods.
  • Use furniture that can safely support the TV.
  • Ensure the TV is not overhanging the edge of furniture.
  • Educate children about climbing dangers.
  • Route cords to prevent tripping.
  • Never place the TV in an unstable location.
  • Anchor furniture and TV if placing on tall furniture.
  • Never place the TV on cloth or materials between the TV and furniture.
  • Never place items that might tempt children to climb on top of the TV or furniture.

Lightning: For protection during lightning storms or when unused for long periods, unplug the TV and disconnect antenna/cable systems.

Power Lines: Keep outdoor antennas away from overhead power lines. Contact with power lines can be fatal.

Handling the LCD Panel: The screen is made of glass. Do not drop, hit, or press hard against the panel. If broken, be careful of broken glass and do not touch the liquid inside, as it may cause skin inflammation. If liquid contacts mouth or eyes, seek medical attention.

Replacement Parts: Use only manufacturer-specified replacement parts.

Safety Check: After service, ensure the TV is in correct operating condition.

Power Source: Operate only from the indicated power source.

Servicing: Do not perform servicing beyond operating instructions unless qualified.

Damage Requiring Service: Unplug the TV and refer servicing to qualified personnel if the power cord/plug is damaged, liquid has spilled, objects have fallen in, TV is exposed to rain/water, TV does not operate normally, TV has been dropped or damaged, or exhibits a distinct change in performance.

Outdoor Antenna Grounding: Ground antenna/cable systems for protection against voltage surges and static charges. Refer to Article 810 of the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA No. 70) for grounding details.

Note to CATV system installer: Ground cable must connect to the building's grounding system near cable entry. Refer to Article 820 of the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA No. 40).

Condensation

Moisture can form if the TV is moved from cool to warm surroundings or if room temperature rises suddenly. This may impair performance. Allow the TV to acclimate for about an hour before use, or ensure gradual temperature rise. Condensation may also form from air conditioner breeze; relocate the TV if this occurs.

Mobile Telephone Warning

Keep cordless and cellular telephones away from the TV to avoid interference, operating problems, or damage.

End of Life Directives

Your TV may contain regulated materials. It also contains recyclable materials. Contact local authorities for disposal or recycling information.

Non-Active Pixels

The LCD panel has millions of transistors. Occasionally, a few non-active pixels (fixed blue, green, or red points) may appear. These do not affect performance and are not considered defects.
