Hook-up Diagrams
The document illustrates two primary setup scenarios:
Practicing Setup:
This setup typically involves connecting a Keyboard and a Drum Computer to the amplifier. It may also include connecting a microphone (e.g., XM8500) and an MP3 player or other audio source via AUX IN. A footswitch can be connected for effect control.
Live/Entertainer Setup:
This setup is for live performance and may include multiple instruments (e.g., Keyboard, Computer), microphones, and potentially other audio sources. It demonstrates connecting various inputs and outputs, including stereo linking two ULTRATONE amplifiers for a true stereo sound, and connecting to external devices like a computer (UMC204) or a subwoofer (B1500D-PRO).
Controls and Functions
The ULTRATONE KXD15/KXD12 features numerous controls for sound shaping and effects:
- FX Controls (1): Adjust the signal level from channels 1-4 to the effects processor.
- TO LINE OUT (2): Routes channel 4 signal to LINE OUT without effects. If TO MAIN is also active, channel 4 signal (with effects) goes to speakers and LINE OUT.
- GRAPHIC EQ (3): Adjusts specific frequencies in the sound spectrum.
- MULTI-FX PROCESSOR (4): Adds selected sound effects (reverb, chorus, delay, pitch shifter) to channels with FX knobs turned up.
- PROGRAM [PUSH] Knob (5): Scrolls through and selects effects patches.
- FX RET Knob (6): Controls the amount of effects added to the main mix.
- PHONES Jack (7): For connecting headphones (" TRS).
- LEVEL Controls (8): Adjust signal level for channels 1-4.
- TO MAIN (9): Routes channel 4 signal to speakers without effects. When disengaged, channel 4 routes to PHONES output without effects.
- FBQ Button (10): Activates the Feedback Detection system, indicating problematic frequencies via fader LEDs.
- CLIP LED (11): Lights up when the channel FX send overloads the processor. Reduce FX input signal if lit.
- SIG LED (12): Lights up when the effects processor receives an input signal.
- FX Display (13): Shows the currently selected preset.
- MASTER LEVEL Control (14): Adjusts the main output volume.
- SHAPE Button (15): Applies a special filter to the MASTER output for enhanced clarity in noisy environments.
- PHONES LEVEL Control (16): Adjusts the headphone output level.
- POWER Switch (17): Turns the unit on or off. Ensure it's OFF when connecting to mains.
- POWER SOURCE Jack (18): Accepts the included IEC power cable.
- LINE OUT Connectors (19): Post-EQ audio output to external devices (XLR for balanced, " for unbalanced). Can be used simultaneously.
- STEREO LINK (20): Connects two ULTRATONE amps for true stereo operation.
- AUX IN (21): Accepts signals from CD/MP3 players via RCA connectors.
- LINE Inputs (22): For channels 2-4, accept unbalanced stereo signals via paired " TS connectors. Use L (MONO) for mono input.
- LINE/MIC Input (23): Channel 1 features XLR (balanced, +15V phantom power) and dual " TS connectors. Both can be used simultaneously.
- GND LIFT Switch (24): Disconnects ground connection at LINE OUT XLR outputs to eliminate hum from ground loops.
- SUB OUT Connector (25): Provides line-level mono subwoofer signal for connection to a power amp or active subwoofer.
- FOOT SW Jack (26): Connects an optional footswitch (" TS plug) to activate/deactivate the effects processor.
