Care Maintenance
Cambridge Casual furniture is crafted using sustainably harvested wood. While designed to withstand the elements, proper care and maintenance will ensure longevity and appearance.
General Outdoor Care
- Regular cleaning is important.
- Use furniture covers or store indoors during inclement weather (heavy rain, winter).
- Ensure furniture and cushions are clean and dry before covering or storing.
- Remove wet cushions from frames and air dry to prevent mold and mildew.
- Avoid storing furniture near heating or cooling vents.
- Do not let liquids stand on surfaces.
- Do not place hot items directly on furniture surfaces.
- Use a padded barrier when writing on furniture.
- Avoid leaving furniture in puddles or on wet ground.
Unfinished Natural / Finely Sanded Teak
- Unique graining and color variations are natural characteristics of teak.
- Small splits, knots, and joint lines contribute to the character without affecting quality.
- Natural teak weathers to a silver-gray patina; a teak sealer or oil can maintain the honey brown color.
- Teak expands and contracts with climate changes, potentially causing hairline cracks, which do not compromise structural integrity.
- Surface mildew may form but does not impact durability and can be removed with cleaning.
Cleaning Teak:
- Use warm water and mild dish soap. Scrub gently with the grain. Rinse thoroughly and air dry.
- For tougher stains, use a mixture of 1 cup chlorine bleach, 1 cup laundry detergent, and 1 gallon of water. Apply with a soft-bristle brush, let sit for 5-10 minutes, rinse thoroughly.
- Start with milder solutions; use stronger cleaners or teak cleaners if needed.
- For remaining stains, lightly sand with 120-grit sandpaper.
Weathered Teak
This finish is hand-applied and may fade or wear over time with outdoor exposure. The underlying natural teak will become exposed and turn gray. To preserve the finish, store in covered storage or use a furniture cover during extreme weather or winter.
Spa Collection Teak
Maintain with solvent-based polyurethane protective coating every six months, or as recommended by the manufacturer. For everyday maintenance, clean with mild detergent and a clean cloth. Avoid chemical solvents.
Painted Hardwood
Clean with water-based mild detergent and a clean cloth every six months. Avoid chemical solvents. Color may fade with continuous exposure to sunlight and rain. Store indoors or use a furniture cover during extreme weather.
Cushions
- Fabrics are breathable and water-resistant, not waterproof.
- Remove and store cushions in a dry place when not in use or during inclement weather.
- Air dry wet cushions thoroughly, ensuring zippers are open and cushions are on their sides for drainage.
- Clean periodically to remove dust and dirt. Wipe spills immediately.
- Spot clean stains promptly.
- Removable cushion covers can be machine washed in cold water with mild soap and air dried.
- Rotate cushion inserts periodically to distribute wear and prevent loss of shape.
Synthetic Rattan, Woven Polyrope, & Textilene
- Dust periodically with a soft, dry cloth.
- Use a non-metallic, soft bristle brush for loose dirt.
- For spot cleaning, rinse with a hose and dry with a soft cloth.
- For thorough cleaning, use a mixture of mild soap and water with a soft-bristle brush. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Proper care will ensure your furniture lasts for many years.
