Care Maintenance
Cambridge Casual collections are meticulously crafted using sustainably harvested wood, cultivated under rigorous governmental regulations. This approach promotes sustainability and guarantees adherence to legal trade practices.
Our collections are designed to withstand the elements, but proper care and maintenance are essential for longevity. Follow this guide for cleaning and maintenance recommendations.
General Outdoor Care
- Regular cleaning keeps furniture looking its best.
- Use furniture covers or store in a covered area during heavy rain, winter, or inclement weather.
- Ensure furniture and cushions are clean and dry before covering or storing.
- Remove wet cushions from the frame and air dry to prevent mold and mildew.
- Avoid storing furniture near central heating or cooling vents to prevent excessive wood drying.
- Do not allow liquids to stand on furniture or cushion surfaces.
- Do not place hot items directly on furniture surfaces.
- Use a padded barrier when writing on furniture.
- Do not leave furniture in puddles of water or on wet ground.
Unfinish Natural / Finely Sanded Teak
Characteristic
- Each piece may exhibit unique graining and color variations due to the organic nature of teak.
- Small splits, knots, and joint lines are natural characteristics that contribute to the piece's character without affecting quality.
- Natural teak develops a silver-gray patina as it weathers. Teak sealer or oil can be applied to maintain the original honey brown color.
- Teak expands and contracts with climate shifts, which may cause hairline cracks in assembly joints or the wood grain. This does not compromise structural integrity.
- Mildew may form on the surface but does not impact the wood's durability or lifespan and can be removed with simple cleaning.
Care & Maintenance
- Clean teak furniture with warm water and mild dish soap. Gently scrub surfaces following the grain. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Allow remaining moisture to air-dry.
- For tougher stains, use a mixture of 1 cup chlorine bleach, 1 cup laundry detergent, and 1 gallon of water. Apply with a non-metallic, soft-bristle brush. Let sit for 5-10 minutes (or longer for stubborn stains). Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Always start with a mild cleaning solution. If ineffective, try a stronger concentration or a store-bought teak cleaner.
- For remaining stains, lightly sand affected areas with 120-grit sandpaper until the stain disappears.
Weathered Teak
Our weathered teak finish is hand-applied using a wire brush to distress the wood, followed by a multilayered painted finish. Similar to all painted finishes, it will fade and wear when exposed to outdoor elements. As the finish wears, the underlying natural teak wood will become exposed and turn grey. This process is accelerated if furniture is left untreated or uncovered. To preserve the weathered teak finish, move it to covered storage or use a furniture cover during extreme weather or winter seasons.
Spa Collection Teak
Water and stain guard is applied. Maintain with solvent-based polyurethane protective coating every six (6) months, or as recommended by the manufacturer. For everyday maintenance, clean with mild detergent and a clean cloth. Do not use chemical solvents.
Painted Hardwood
Apply water-based mild detergent for wood using a clean cloth every six (6) months. Do not use chemical solvents. Color/finish may fade over time due to sunlight and rain exposure. Store indoors or use a furniture cover during extreme weather or winter months.
Cushions
- Fabrics are breathable and water-resistant, but not waterproof. Remove and store cushions in a dry place when not in use or during inclement weather.
- If cushions become soaked, remove them from the frame and air dry them with the zipper facing down and unzipped to ensure proper drainage.
- Clean off dust and dirt periodically. Wipe spills immediately and spot clean stains promptly.
- Removable cushion covers can be machine-washed in cold water with mild laundry soap and air-dried.
- Periodically rotate cushions and pillows to distribute wear and prevent loss of shape.
Synthetic Rattan, Woven Polyrope, & Textilene
- Dust periodically with a soft, dry cloth. Use a non-metallic, soft bristle brush for loose dirt.
- For spot-cleaning, spray off debris with a hose and dry with a soft cloth.
- For thorough cleaning, use a mixture of mild soap and water with a non-metallic, soft-bristle brush. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
Proper care and maintenance will ensure your furniture lasts for many years.
