This document provides comprehensive information for operating and maintaining your QUEST V80 and V60 metal detectors.
Global Settings
Gyro Sensor
The built-in Gyro Sensor enhances user experience and device efficiency by interpreting user movements. It automatically initiates ground balancing without manual input, saving time and optimizing for soil conditions. The sensor also analyzes swing speed and orientation to stabilize and unify Target ID readings for more consistent results. When power saving mode is active, a battery with a [cross symbol] ❌ will appear on the standby interface.
To adjust Gyro Sensor settings:
- Locate the Gyro sensor setting.
- Use the [up button] or [down button] to select different functions.
- Use the [up button] to activate or inactivate the function.
Backlight Level
Adjust the LCD backlight brightness for optimal viewing.
- Locate the Display setting.
- Select Backlight level using the [up button].
- Use the [up button] or [down button] to increase or decrease brightness.
LCD Refresh Rate
A higher refresh rate provides a smoother LCD viewing experience but consumes more battery.
- Locate the LCD refresh rate setting.
- Select backlight setting using the [up button].
- Use the [up button] or [down button] to increase or decrease the LCD refresh rate.
Clock Adjustment
The clock operates in a 24-hour format and is powered by the detector's battery. If the battery depletes, the clock will reset to the default time.
- Locate the Clock setting.
- Use the [up button] or [down button] to increase or decrease the hour number.
- Hold the [up button] to switch to minute setting.
- Use the [up button] or [down button] to increase or decrease the minute number.
Wireless Audio Gear Management
Manage your wireless audio devices, similar to smartphone settings. Pair, unpair, and delete devices to switch between headphones freely. The detector uses low-latency Bluetooth technology. For optimal performance, Quest recommends using Quest headphones or devices with AptXLL Low Latency technology.
Available Wireless Headphones:
- WIREFREE HE: Highly immersive over-ear headphones.
- WIREFREE VIBE: Compact over-ear headphones.
- WIREFREE AIR: Sweat-proof bone conductive earphones.
Pairing Bluetooth Headphones:
- Keep headphones within 5 inches (12.7 cm) of the control box.
- Turn off the headphones, then hold the power button for 5 seconds to enter pairing mode.
- The headphones' name will appear on the detector's screen.
- Use the [up button] or [down button] to locate the desired headphones.
- Click the [up button] to pair.
Connecting to Previously Paired Device:
- Ensure the device is on and not paired to another smartphone or detector.
- Use the [up button] or [down button] to select the desired device.
- Click the [up button] to pair.
- Click [search] to continue searching for other devices.
Disconnecting from Previously Paired Device:
- Use the [up button] or [down button] to select the desired option.
- Click the [up button] to unpair or disconnect (delete).
Reset to Factory Settings
Resetting to factory defaults can correct misconfigurations caused by user error or lack of understanding. This is a quick way to start fresh.
Pros: Quick correction of misconfigurations.
Cons: Loss of all personalized settings; requires time to reconfigure.
To reset:
- Use the [up button] or [down button] to select YES/NO.
- When YES is underlined, click the [up button] to reset. The detector will be set to default instantly.
About Firmware
View your detector's firmware version to confirm it is up to date.
Firmware Upgrading
To upgrade your detector's firmware to the latest version (e.g., V3.31.bin):
- Turn On Your PC: Ensure it is a Windows system.
- Download Software: Obtain the QUEST updater software and the new firmware from www.questmetaldetectors.com/download.
- Get the Cable: Use the USB cable provided with your detector.
- Connect Devices: Plug the USB cable into both your PC and the detector.
- Prep the Detector: Turn the detector OFF. Then, hold the ⚙️ [Gear] and ? [Pinpoint] buttons while turning it back ON until the QUEST logo appears.
- Start Software: Open the QUEST updater program on your PC.
- Find Your Detector: Click the drop-down menu where it says "<None>" and select "USB (COM x)". The "x" will be a number between 1-9.
- Connect: Click the "Connect" button in the software.
- Upgrade: Click "Select Firmware", navigate to the new firmware file you downloaded, and then click "Update".

Before You Go: Get Set Up Right
- Check Tightness: Ensure all screws and cam-locks are tight before use.
- Clean Hands: Wash hands or wear gloves if using bug spray or sunscreen to prevent detector contamination.
Using Your Detector: Pay Attention to Details
- Protect the Screen: Use the provided screen protector to prevent scratches.
- Cable and Connections: Ensure the coil cable is not twisted or bent. Do not use tools to tighten connectors.
- Avoid Sand: Sand can jam moving parts. Rinse with fresh water if the detector gets sandy.
After Your Hunt: Time to Clean Up
- Basic Cleaning: Use a damp cloth or running tap water. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Beach Cleanup: Rinse all parts thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt and sand.
Maintenance: Keep It Running Smoothly
- Battery Care: Charge the battery every 3-4 months to extend its life. Replace worn-out batteries at authorized centers.
- Coil and Coil Cover: Replace a worn coil cover to protect the coil.
- Headphone Care: Keep the headphone socket dry and sand-free. Use a used toothbrush to clean if sand enters.
Safety Measures: Safety First
- No Water, No Oil: Do not submerge the detector or expose it to gasoline or oil.
- Temperature Guidelines: Charge between 0°C and +40°C. Store between -20°C and +70°C. Never leave it in a hot car.
- Child Safety: Keep small parts away from children as they can be a choking hazard.
- Speaker and Screen: Do not poke the speaker. Clean the screen with a damp cloth and mild soap only.

Troubleshooting
Common issues and their solutions for QUEST metal detectors.
1. Detector Won't Turn On or Shuts Off Unexpectedly
- Check Coil: Ensure it's securely plugged in.
- Charge Up: Place the detector on charge.
- See the Light: Verify the green charging light is blinking.
- Use Right Charger: Use a USB charger with a 2A@5V rating.

2. Too Much Noise Sound

6. No Sound with Wired Headphones

- Volume: Ensure the volume is set to an audible level.

7. No Vibration

8. Charging but No Indicator

9. Speaker Sounds Off After Being in Cold Water

Waterproof Capability

Warranty Period
- Control Box: 5-year warranty from the date of purchase.
- Coil: 2-year warranty from the date of purchase.
