Changing Cartridges

Follow these steps to replace the cartridges on the wire stripper tweezers.

  1. 1. Removing

Loosen the screws on the tweezers using a screwdriver. Gently pull the cartridges out.

Diagram shows the tweezers with screws being loosened and cartridges being pulled out.

  2. 2. Inserting

Insert the new cartridge until the reference mark is aligned. Ensure both tips match correctly.

Diagram shows a cartridge being inserted into the tweezers, with a mark indicating the correct insertion depth.

Important: It is essential to insert the cartridge until the mark for a good electrical connection.

  3. 3. Positioning

Align the cartridges in their working position using a flat pliers (JBC Ref. PLR-195). The conical cartridge aligner helps center both cartridges for optimal functionality.

Diagram shows two cartridges being aligned using flat-nosed pliers, with a conical aligner feature highlighted.

  4. 4. Fixing

Fix the cartridges in their working position by tightening the screw.

Diagram shows a screw being tightened to secure the cartridges in place.

Important: It is essential to tighten the screws for the tool to function correctly.

Stripping a Wire

Use the WS440 tweezers to strip wire ends.

  1. 1. Align Wire

Place the wire so it is touching the strip gauge.

Diagram shows a wire being positioned against the strip gauge on the tweezers.

  2. 2. Close Cartridges

Choose cartridges appropriate for the wire diameter. Pinch the wire with the blades. The pinched area will be melted by heat.

Diagram shows the tweezers' blades closing around the wire, indicating the area to be heated and stripped.

  3. 3. Remove Wire

Pull the wire stripper toward the wire end to strip off the insulation.

Diagram shows the wire stripper being pulled away from the wire end, completing the stripping process.

Adjustable Strip Gauge

The strip gauge can be adjusted according to your stripping requirements.

Diagram shows the adjustable strip gauge on the WS440 tweezers. It highlights the 'Strip Gauge Knob' and the 'Strip Gauge' markings, which include measurements in inches (1/2, 3/4, 1, 1/4, 3/8, 1/8) and millimeters (40, 30, 20, 10 mm).

Cartridge Range

The WS440-A is compatible with the W440 Blade Cartridge Range. Find the model that best suits your soldering needs on www.jbctools.com.

Sealing Plug Replacement

The Sealing Plug prevents undesirable flux vapors or particles from entering the tool. It is recommended for intensive applications, FOD environments, or when the soldering iron is used in a vertical position.

Before replacing the seal: unplug the power supply and ensure the device is not hot. ⚠️

  1. 1. Removing

Enter a small shaft or screwdriver into the designated slot to gently lift and pull the sealing plug. Do not insert the tool more than 8 mm deep. Never use a cartridge for this operation.

Diagram shows a small tool (like a screwdriver shaft) being used to pry out the sealing plug from the tweezers.

  2. 2. Mounting

Note the sealing plug mounting position: The chamfered side must be positioned towards the handle.

Diagram shows a sealing plug and the handle of the tweezers, illustrating the correct orientation of the chamfered side towards the handle.

  3. 3. Inserting

Gently push the sealing plug inside the handle until it is completely seated. The handle and seal edges must be aligned.

Diagram shows the sealing plug being pushed into the tweezers handle until flush.
