1 Technical Specifications
1.1 Overview
These instructions are for the installation of the MUTO PREMIUM and COMFORT sliding door systems, specifically the XL150/80/120 and L80 models, for ceiling mount configurations.
1.1.1 General Information
- dormakaba requires the use of tempered monolithic or tempered laminated glass.
- dormakaba glass hardware is not suitable for environments with chemicals like chlorine, such as indoor swimming pools, saunas, or salt-water pools.
- Never move sliding panels faster than walking speed. Always stop the door manually before it reaches its end position.
- Do not slide doors with excessive force. Install a limiting stop to prevent the door from opening too far.
- Only properly qualified and specially trained staff are authorized to mount dormakaba glass hardware.
- Due to crushing hazards and potential injury from glass breakage during mounting, appropriate protective clothing, including gloves and protective goggles, is required.
- Never clamp metal fitting hardware directly to the glass surface.
1.1.2 Intended Use
- For sliding doors in dry indoor areas only.
- For manual, slow opening and closing only.
1.1.3 Glass Requirements and Fittings
- The substructure/wall must be able to bear permanent loads and be level, with a maximum tolerance of 1/16" [2 mm] per 39" [1 m].
- Fasteners must be sufficiently dimensioned for the substructure/wall and the weight of the door.
- When adjusting glass components, always adhere to the required clearance for the respective hardware. Adjust clearance so the glass does not come into contact with any hard surfaces like glass, metal, or concrete.
- Do not use excessive force when installing the glass; avoid over-tightening screws.
1.1.4 Requirements for Glass Panel
- dormakaba requires fully tempered glass that complies with ASTM C 1036 and ASTM C 1048. Secondary heat soaking processes are recommended but not required. This applies to both tempered monolithic and tempered laminated glass.
- The clamping area must be flat and uncoated (no self-cleaning coating).
- Never use glass with conchoidal fractures or damaged edges.
1.1.5 Safety Instructions
- Installation requires two people.
1.1.6 Symbols Used - Safety/Installation
CAUTION: Mounting components must meet the requirements of the substructure/wall and door weight. Refer to technical information for fittings.
WARNING: Risk of breaking glass. When installing the door, support the door panel with a block of wood or similar object.

1.1.7 Maintenance, Care, Repair
- Immediately replace damaged parts.
- Always use original dormakaba parts.
- Clean the clamping area with an alcohol-based standard commercial cleaning agent before mounting the glass hardware.
- Use a damp cloth for occasional cleaning, especially the track.
- Always use silicone- and oil-free cleaners, such as acetone.
- Check glass hardware at regular intervals for proper positioning, smooth operation, and correct adjustment.
- High-traffic door systems require inspection by properly qualified staff (specialized companies or installation firms).
1.1.8 Disposal
Dispose of materials in accordance with local, state, and national regulations.

Handling Time Frame
- Working life (time between application and clamping of carrier): 5 minutes @ 75°F
- Handling strength: 20 minutes @ 73°F or more
- Full cure time (normal door usage not recommended until full cure time has been met): 48 hours @ 73°F or more
NOTE: Door glass should not be installed until the full cure time has been reached.

2 Installation Instructions
2.1 Overall Component Identification
The following components are part of the MUTO sliding door system:
- 1.1 Cover
- 1.2 Track
- 1.3 End Cap
- 1.4 Sidelite end cap
- 1.5 Sidelite section profile
- 1.6 Cover clips
- 1.7 U-channel
- 1.8 U-channel end caps
- 1.9 View protection clips
- 1.10 View protection profile
- 1.11 Sidelite glass gasket

2.2 Securing Gasket to Track
Figure 1 shows the sidelite gasket being adhered to the track. The diagram depicts the track, the adhesive gasket, and the sidelite glass.
- 2.2.1 Ensure the track is cut to the proper length. Refer to Dimension Instructions on Page 8.
- 2.2.2 Cut the adhesive gasket to match the track length.
- 2.2.3 Adhere the gasket along the bottom edge of the back of the track.
2.3 Secure Sidelite Section Profile to Track and Mounting Surface
Figure 2 illustrates the MUTO ceiling mount track and the alignment of the sidelite section profile with the track's predrilled holes.
- 2.3.1 Align the sidelite profile screw slot with the track profile holes. Note: Holes are predrilled every 7-7/8" [200 mm].
- 2.3.2 Secure the profile using the provided fasteners.
- 2.3.3 Ensure the track is properly level and secure it to the header mounting surface according to the measurements provided on the following page.
- 2.3.4 Use appropriate fasteners as per the following recommendations.
Overhead Reinforcement Note: The overhead reinforcement must be a minimum of 1/4" [6 mm] x 3" [76 mm] steel angle, 16-gauge metal stud, or two pieces of 1 1/2" [38 mm] thick wood blocking (double stacked). This reinforcement should be secured to studs or joists on maximum 16" [406 mm] centers for the length of the track. The reinforcement may be flush with or on the interior of the overhead surface. Track mounting screws must fully penetrate the steel angle or metal stud, or penetrate a minimum of 2" [51 mm] into wood blocking, utilizing the predrilled holes in the MUTO track. Consult a structural engineer to determine if reinforcement is adequate for your specific application or to meet local codes.
2.4 Door/Wall Dimensions
Diagrams show the required dimensions for sidelite mounting for XL150/XL80/L80 and XL120 models. These include the sidelite glass width (FPW), a 1/4" [6 mm] gap, the distance from the back of the track to the center of the mounting hole (7/8" [23 mm]), and the distance from the bottom of the glass to the floor (1/2" [13 mm]).
2.5 Installing U-channel for Sidelite
Figure 3 shows the U-channel, its gasket, and its placement relative to the sidelite profile and the wall. It illustrates the U-channel being secured to the floor.
- 2.5.1 Install gaskets as shown and trim to the correct length. Secure the U-channel to the floor using appropriate fasteners. Ensure the U-channel is plumb and its back aligns with the back of the sidelite profile. Gaskets are pre-installed.
2.6 Installing Sidelite Glass
Figure 4 illustrates the process of installing the sidelite glass. It shows setting blocks placed in the U-channel, the glass being lifted into the sidelite profile, and then lowered into the U-channel, maintaining a 1/8" [3 mm] gap to the wall.
- 2.6.1 Place setting blocks into the U-channel.
- 2.6.2 Spray the inside of the U-channel with glass cleaner.
- 2.6.3 Lift the glass up and into the sidelite profile.
- 2.6.4 Lower the glass down into the U-channel.
- 2.6.5 Ensure there is a 1/8" [3 mm] gap between the wall and the edge of the sidelite glass.
Notes:
- If using tempered laminated glass, gently press the glass against the U-channel gasket and dispense silicone along the full length of the non-gasket side of the U-channel.
- If using multiple sidelite panels, ensure there is an adequate gap between each panel of glass.
2.7 Installing Sidelite Glass Gasket
Figure 5 shows the sidelite gasket being cut to length and then pressed into place between the sidelite glass and the sidelite profile.
- 2.7.1 Cut the gasket to length.
- 2.7.2 Press the gasket in between the sidelite glass and the sidelite profile.
2.8 Install Cover Clips
Figure 6 illustrates the installation of cover clips into the track. The diagram shows a cover clip being inserted perpendicular to the track and turned clockwise to secure it. (Note: Use 1 clip per foot of cover extrusion).
- 2.8.1 Insert cover clips into the track.
- 2.8.2 Insert clips perpendicular to the track and turn clockwise to snap them into place.
2.9 Install View Protection Clips
Figure 7 shows the installation of view protection clips and the view protection profile. The diagrams depict measuring and cutting the profile, and snapping the clips onto the cover.
- 2.9.1 Measure and cut the view protection profile to fit into the empty sliding portion of the track, approximately 3/16" [5 mm].
- 2.9.2 Snap the view protection clips onto the inside of the cover as shown.
- 2.9.3 Use a minimum of 1 clip per foot of profile. If the profile is a minimum of 1 foot in length, use 2 clips.
2.10 Cover Spacers
Figure 8 illustrates the placement and tightening of cover spacers. The diagrams show cover spacers being tipped into the track edge, placed at each end, and tightened.
- 2.10.1 Tip cover spacers into the outer most edge of the track.
- 2.10.2 Place one spacer at each end of the track as shown.
- 2.10.3 Tighten at 1 ft lbs [1 Nm] or hand tighten.

2.11 Install Cover and View Protection Profile
Figure 9 shows the installation of the cover and view protection profile. Diagrams illustrate securing the cover to clips, rolling it upwards, and then positioning and snapping the view protection profile into place between the track and cover.
- 2.11.1 Secure the cover to the clips and snap it into place. Note: Roll the cover from the bottom upwards, ensuring the bottom of the cover is supported by the groove in the cover clip.
- 2.11.2 Once the cover is in place, tip the view protection profile up between the track and the cover.
- 2.11.3 Snap the view protection profile down into the cover and onto the track as shown.
2.12 Install End Caps
Figure 10 shows the installation of various end caps. Diagrams depict end caps being snapped into the cover, the sidelite profile, and the U-channel.

- 2.12.3 Snap end caps into the ends of the U-channel.
