1 Technical specifications

1.1 Overview

These instructions are for installation of PURE™ SONOS sliding door system with a MUTO XL150 and two Sidelites (glass door) for the following mounting and style versions:

  1. Ceiling mount

1.1.1 General information

  • dormakaba requires use of tempered monolithic or tempered laminated glass.
  • dormakaba glass hardware is not suitable for application in rooms where chemicals (e.g. chlorine) are used as indoor swimming pools, saunas or salt-water pools.
  • Never move sliding panels faster than walking speed and always stop the door manually before it reaches end position.
  • Do not slide doors with excessive force. Install limiting stop to prevent door from opening too far.

1.1.2 Intended use

  • For sliding door in dry indoor areas only
  • For manual slowly opening and closing only

1.1.3 Glass requirements and fittings

  • The substructure/wall must be able to bear permanent loads and be level (max. tolerance: 1/16" [2] per 39" [1m]).
  • Fasteners must be sufficiently dimensioned for the substructure/wall and weight of the door.
  • When adjusting glass components, always stick to the required clearance for the respective hardware. Adjust clearance so glass does not come in contact with any hard surfaces such as glass, metal or concrete.
  • Do not use excessive force when installing the glass (avoid over tightening screws).

1.1.4 Requirements for glass panel

  • dormakaba requires use of fully tempered glass, which complies with ASTM C 1036 and ASTM C 1048. Secondary heat soaking processes are recommended but not required. This applies to both tempered monolithic and tempered laminated glass.
  • Clamping area must be flat and uncoated (no self-cleaning coating!)
  • Never use glass with conchoidal fractures and/or damaged edges.

1.1.5 Safety instructions

  • Installation requires two people.
  • Only properly qualified and specially trained staff are authorized to mount dormakaba glass hardware.
  • Due to crushing hazards and possible injury caused by breakage of glass during mounting, corresponding protective clothing (especially gloves and protective goggles) is required.
  • Never clamp metal fitting hardware directly to glass surface.

1.1.6 Symbols used - Safety/Installation

  • CAUTION: Mounting components must meet the requirements of substructure/wall and door weight. Please read the technical information for fittings.
  • WARNING: Risk of breaking glass. When installing the door, support the door panel with a block of wood or similar object.
  • CLOSING EDGE

1.1.7 Maintenance, care, repair

  • Immediately replace damaged parts.
  • Always use original dormakaba parts.
  • Clean clamping area with alcohol-based standard commercial cleaning agent before mounting the glass hardware.
  • Use a damp cloth for occasional cleaning, especially the track.
  • Always use silicone - and oil-free cleaners (e.g. acetone).
  • Check glass hardware at regular intervals for proper positioning and smooth operation and correct adjustment.
  • High traffic door systems require inspection by properly qualified staff (specialized companies or installation firms.)

1.1.8 Disposal

Disposal in accordance with local, state and national regulations.

2 Installation instructions

2.1 Door frame alignment

Figure 1 illustrates the door frame alignment process, emphasizing the use of a plumb line around the perimeter of the frame. It notes that mounting surfaces should be plumb and level.

2.2 Daylight opening

Figure 2 shows how to measure the daylight opening of the door frame.

2.3 Secure sidelite glass gasket to MUTO track

Figure 3 illustrates securing the sidelite glass gasket to the MUTO track, showing the track, gasket, and sidelite glass. Ensure the track is cut to proper length and cut the adhesive gasket equal to the sidelite glass width. Adhere the gasket along the bottom edge of the back of the track.

2.4 Secure sidelite section profile to MUTO track

Figure 4 demonstrates securing the sidelite section profile to the MUTO track, highlighting alignment and fastener placement. Align the edge of the sidelite profile with the track extrusion and secure with proper fasteners. Note that holes are predrilled every 7-7/8" [200] and fasteners should be flush with the track to avoid roller interference.

2.5 Secure vertical extrusion - sidelite channel (left or right)

Figure 5 details the installation of the vertical extrusion (sidelite channel) and its preparation for L-bracket attachment. It shows securing the channel to the door frame and preparing for bracket installation. Measure and cut the sidelite channels, prepare the vertical extrusion by pre-drilling holes, and slide the L-bracket double nut plate into the groove of the vertical extrusion. Loosely tighten screws to hold the plate. Then, secure the vertical extrusion to the door frame, ensuring it is aligned and plumb, using fasteners every 2 feet into the middle groove.

2.6 Prepare MUTO track for installation

Figure 6 illustrates preparing the MUTO track for installation, including cutting to length. If necessary, cut the MUTO track and sidelite section profile assembly to the appropriate length, calculated as the distance between the jamb channel and sidelite channel minus 1/16" [1].

2.7 Installing end stops into MUTO track

Figure 7 shows the installation of end stops into the MUTO track, including the use of set screws. Slide end stops into each end of the track, loosening the bottom section for easier installation. Ensure the set screw is flush with the back of the end stop.

2.8 Secure [jamb channel] L-bracket to MUTO track

Figure 8 illustrates securing the jamb channel L-bracket to the MUTO track for both right and left hand doors. Slide the jamb channel L-bracket into the end of the MUTO track, ensuring correct orientation and sufficient slide to avoid interference with vertical extrusion installation. Temporarily secure with set screws.

2.9 Install [sidelite] L-brackets into MUTO track

Figure 9 details the installation of sidelite L-brackets into the MUTO track. Slide L-brackets into both ends of the MUTO track and slide them over to ensure they do not interfere with vertical extrusion installation. Temporarily secure with set screws.

2.10 Secure MUTO track to frame

Figure 10 shows how to secure the MUTO track to the frame, with notes on overhead reinforcements and structural engineer consultation. Ensure the track is level and secure it to the mounting surface using appropriate fasteners. Overhead reinforcement requirements include steel angle, metal studs, or wood blocking, secured to studs or joists.

2.11 Door/wall dimensions

Figure 11 provides detailed diagrams of door and wall dimensions, including clearances for sidelite glass, door panel, and track measurements. It specifies dimensions like the recess into the jamb channel, overlap of the door, and glass-to-floor clearance.

2.12 Secure vertical extrusions to L-brackets

Figure 12 illustrates the process of securing vertical extrusions to L-brackets using set screws and double nut plates. This involves loosening set screws, sliding the L-bracket, tightening the set screw, removing T-slot double nut screws, holding the double nut plate, and securing the bracket through the channel into the plate with M5x8 screws, then securing to the MUTO track with countersunk flat head screws.

2.13 Install [sidelite] glazing pockets and adhesive gaskets (if necessary)

Figure 13 details the installation of sidelite glazing pockets and adhesive gaskets, showing placement and orientation. Measure and cut glazing pockets to length (daylight opening - 2-3/4" [70]). Remove backing and adhere gaskets to the glazing pockets, ensuring correct orientation. Snap both glazing pockets into their respective vertical extrusions.

2.14 Install U-channel

Figure 14 illustrates the installation of the U-channel to the floor, emphasizing plumbness and alignment with the sidelite profile. Secure U-channels to the floor using appropriate fasteners, ensuring they are plumb with the back of the track and aligned with the back of the sidelite profile.

2.15 Install sidelite glass

Figure 15 demonstrates the installation of sidelite glass, showing how to lift it into the sidelite profile and lower it into the U-channel. Place 1/2" [13] minimum setting blocks into the U-channel, lift the glass into the sidelite profile, and then lower it into the U-channel.

2.16 Secure L-bracket to middle glazing channel

Figure 16 details securing the L-bracket to the middle glazing channel, including adhesive gasket and brush seal placement, and notes on temporary securing for later adjustment. Cut the middle glazing channel to length (daylight opening - 2-3/4" [70]). Ensure the middle glazing channel is mounted with the pre-drilled hole for the U-channel pointing towards the floor. Secure adhesive gaskets and slide the brush seal into the channel. Slide the double nut plate into the groove and then the L-bracket. Loosely secure the bracket through the groove into the double nut plate.

2.17 Install middle glazing channel

Figure 17 illustrates the installation of the middle glazing channel, showing its placement into the sidelite portion of the track and securing it to the U-channel. With the L-bracket facing away from the sidelite, tip the middle glazing channel into the sidelite portion of the track. Verify it is square to the horizontal track. Slide it until the glazing pocket touches the U-channel and the sidelite glass is within the glazing pocket. Mark holes on the L-bracket, drill them, and secure the L-bracket to the track. Finally, secure the middle glazing channel to the end of the U-channel.

2.18 Prepare jamb channel extrusion

Figure 18 shows the preparation of the jamb channel extrusion, including cutting to length and preparing for L-bracket installation. Cut the jamb channel to length (daylight opening - 2-3/4" [70]), ensuring the pre-drilled hole for the U-channel points towards the floor. Remove any strip and secure adhesive gaskets to the jamb channel. Prepare for L-bracket installation by sliding the double nut plate down into the groove and loosely tightening the screws.

2.19 Secure jamb channel extrusion

Figure 19 details securing the jamb channel extrusion to the MUTO track and L-bracket, showing alignment and fastening steps. Tip the jamb channel up against the MUTO track, verify it is square, and slide it until it touches the U-channel and the sidelite glass is in the glazing pocket. Loosen the set screw, slide the L-bracket, tighten the set screw, remove T-slot double nut screws, hold the double nut plate, and secure the L-bracket through the jamb channel into the double nut plate using M5x8 screws, then secure to the MUTO track with countersunk flat head screws.

2.20 Install jamb glazing pocket

Figure 20 illustrates the installation of the jamb glazing pocket, including cutting to length and snapping it into the jamb channel. Measure and cut the glazing pocket to length (daylight opening - 3" [76]). Slide brushes into the jamb glazing pocket and snap the pocket into the jamb channel, ensuring correct orientation.

2.21 Install push-in gaskets or silicone along all sidelite channels

Figure 21 demonstrates installing push-in gaskets or silicone along sidelite channels for both monolithic and tempered laminated glass. For monolithic glass, press gaskets into the grooves on the exterior side. For tempered laminated glass, press gaskets into the grooves and gently press the glass panel against the gasket, dispensing silicone. If the glass is too thick, apply silicone to the exterior side of the extrusions.

2.22 Install hook set (optional: used for less Dormotion applications only)

Figure 22 shows the optional hook set installation for applications with less Dormotion. Determine leading and trailing rollers, then secure the hook onto the roller with the open side facing away from the installer.

2.23A Install roller carriers: on monolithic glass ONLY

Figure 23A illustrates the installation of roller carriers on monolithic glass, including cleaning, gasket placement, and securing with hex key. Clean the glass surface, ensure the gasket is free of debris, and slide roller carriers onto the glass. Slide the glass gasket and metal shim between the glass and roller carrier. Secure the carriers using the hex key at 10 ft lbs [14 Nm].

2.23B Install roller carriers: on tempered laminate glass ONLY

Figure 24 illustrates the installation of roller carriers on tempered laminate glass, detailing adhesive application and securing. Slide carriers onto the glass, replace the existing gasket with a TLG gasket, and slide the laminated glass gasket and metal shim between the glass and roller carrier. Replace set screws with vented set screws and tighten them at 4 ft lbs [5 Nm]. Dispense adhesive into the vented set screws. Do not wipe excess adhesive; allow it to dry and scrape it off. Keep glass flat during curing.

2.24 Install DORMOTION start/stop

Figure 25 shows the installation of the DORMOTION start/stop mechanism, including pin length adjustment and securing. Determine pin length based on opening squareness and plumbness. If necessary, change the pin by removing hex screws, the existing pin and plate, swapping them, and replacing the screws. Slide the start/stop onto the glass, center it between carriers, slide the glass gasket, and secure with set screws.

2.25 Disengaging anti-jump

Figure 26 illustrates how to disengage the anti-jump feature on the roller carrier. Push the anti-jump adjustment screw IN and turn it counter-clockwise 90°.

2.26 Install glass/rollers on track

Figure 27 shows how to install the glass and rollers onto the track, with a note about adhesive cure time for laminated glass. Ensure rollers and track are free of debris. Place the glass on setting blocks and tip the glass and rollers upward onto the track.

2.27 Engage anti-jump

Figure 28 demonstrates how to engage the anti-jump feature on the roller carrier. Push the anti-jump adjustment screw IN and turn it clockwise 90°.

2.28 Install floor guide

Figure 29 illustrates the installation of the floor guide, showing alignment with the glass and securing to the floor. Align the centerline of the glass with the centerline of the floor guide, ensuring the glass is plumb. Mark measurements, push the door slightly out of the way, pre-drill using a 5/16" drill bit, and secure the floor guide anchor with fasteners.

2.29 Install floor guide: continued

Figure 30 continues the floor guide installation, showing how to slide it over the anchor and adjust it with set screws. Slide the floor guide over the anchor and tighten with set screws. Remove setting blocks and adjust using set screws, ensuring the glass is centered.

2.30 Adjusting the door height

Figure 31 details how to adjust the door height using the height adjustment screw on the carrier, ensuring the glass remains level. Set the height of the glass door, loosen the height adjustment locking screws, and turn the height adjustment screw clockwise or counter-clockwise to raise or lower the glass.

2.31 Adjust end stop locations: LEADING end stop

Figure 32 illustrates adjusting the end stop location for the leading edge of the door. Slide the end stop to the desired location on the track so the bumper touches the edge of the roller carrier.

2.31 Adjust end stop locations: TRAILING end stop

Figure 33 illustrates adjusting the end stop location for the trailing edge of the door. Slide the end stop to the desired location on the track so the bumper touches the edge of the roller carrier.

2.32 Install DORMOTION unit (for applications with DORMOTION only)

Figure 34 shows the installation of the DORMOTION unit into the track channel, including locating the unit and securing it with hex screws. Loosen hex screws on plates, ensuring they are parallel to the track. Place the DORMOTION unit into each end of the track channel. Slide the door fully open or closed, ensuring the carrier touches the end stop. Slide the DORMOTION unit until the trigger aligns with the start/stop pin, rotate plates to engage, and tighten hex screws with 3 ft lbs [3Nm] of torque.

2.33 Adjust start/stop pin height (if necessary) (for applications with DORMOTION only)

Figure 35 demonstrates how to adjust the height and orientation of the start/stop pin for the DORMOTION system. Loosen hex screws, slide the pin and plate up or down to adjust the height.

2.34 Cover clips

Figure 36 illustrates the installation of cover clips into the track. Insert one clip per foot, perpendicular to the track, and turn clockwise to snap into place.

2.35 Secure track brushes

Figure 37 shows how to secure track brushes, including indoor track brushes and track door brushes. Remove adhesive and press the indoor track brush into the track groove. Remove adhesive and press the track door brush along the bottom edge of the MUTO track on the door panel side.

2.36 Install middle glazing channel cover

Figure 38 details the installation of the middle glazing channel cover. Cut the cover to length (daylight opening - 2-3/4" [70]) if necessary, and snap it into the middle glazing channel.

2.37 Installing sidelite glass filler panel

Figure 39 illustrates installing the sidelite glass filler panel into the sidelite profile. Fit the filler panel into the gap of the empty door panel section.

2.38 Install floor guide strike

Figure 40 shows the installation of the floor guide strike into the jamb track. Align the strike with tapered sides facing inward, mark and drill holes in the jamb track using a No 1. [.228"] drill bit, and secure the strike with included fasteners.

2.39 Install brush profile

Figure 41 demonstrates installing the brush profile into the cover. Measure and cut the brush to length (cover length - view protection profile length) and slide it into the cover.

2.40 Install view protection clips

Figure 42 illustrates installing view protection clips onto the cover and fitting the view protection profile into the track. Slide the door open, measure and cut the view protection profile, snap view protection clips onto the inside of the cover, and snap the profile into the track.

2.41 Prepare cover for installation

Figure 43 shows how to prepare the cover for installation by cutting notches to clear the jamb channel L-bracket. Measure from the sidelite channel to the outside edge of the L-bracket and cut a notch into the inside of the cover (1-1/8" [29] x 3/4" [19]).

2.42 Install cover and view protection profile

Figure 44 details the final installation of the cover and view protection profile, securing the cover to clips and snapping the profile into place. Secure the cover to clips and snap into place, rolling the cover from the bottom upwards. Snap the view protection clip onto the inside of the cover and tip the view protection profile up into the track and snap it down into the cover.
