dormakaba MUTO Gap Seals Installation Instructions
Technical Specifications
1.1 Overview
These instructions are for the installation of MUTO Premium and Comfort XL150/80, XL120, L80, and XL80 Telescopic panels for the following mounting and style versions:
- Wall, Ceiling, Glass, Sidelite mount
1.1.1 General Information
- dormakaba requires the use of tempered laminated or tempered monolithic glass.
- dormakaba glass hardware is not suitable for harsh environments, such as applications involving chemicals (e.g., chlorine) like indoor swimming pools, saunas, or salt-water pools.
- Never move sliding panels faster than walking speed. Always stop the door manually before it reaches its end position.
- Do not slide doors with excessive force. Ensure proper installation of the limiting stop to prevent the door from opening too far.
1.1.2 Intended Use
- For sliding doors in dry indoor areas only.
- For manual slow opening and closing only.
1.1.3 Glass Requirements/Fittings/Mounting
- The substructure/wall must be able to bear permanent loads and be level (maximum tolerance: 1/16 inch [2 mm] per 39 inches [1 m]).
- Fasteners must be sufficiently dimensioned for the substructure/wall and the weight of the door.
- When adjusting glass components, always adhere to the required clearance for the respective hardware. Adjust clearance so the glass does not come into contact with any hard surfaces like glass, metal, or concrete.
- Do not use excessive force when installing the glass (avoid over-tightening screws).
1.1.4 Requirements for Glass Panel
- dormakaba requires fully tempered glass that complies with ASTM C 1036 and ASTM C 1048. Secondary heat soaking processes are optional but not required. This applies to both tempered monolithic and tempered laminated glass.
- The clamping area must be flat and uncoated (no self-cleaning coating!).
- Never use glass with conchoidal fractures and/or damaged edges.
1.1.5 Safety Instructions
- Installation requires two people.
- Always wear protective clothing.
- Only properly qualified and specially trained staff are authorized to mount dormakaba glass hardware.
- Due to crushing hazards and potential injury from glass breakage during mounting, appropriate protective clothing (especially gloves and protective goggles) is required.
- Never clamp metal fitting hardware directly to the glass surface.
1.1.6 Symbols Used - Safety/Installation
[caution] Mounting components must meet the requirements of the substructure/wall and door weight. Please refer to the technical information for fittings.
[warning] Risk of breaking glass. When installing the door, support the door panel with a block of wood or a similar object.
[info] Information note.
1.1.7 Maintenance, Care, Repair
- Immediately replace damaged parts.
- Always use original dormakaba parts.
- Clean the clamping area with an alcohol-based standard commercial cleaning agent before mounting the glass hardware.
- Use a damp cloth for occasional cleaning.
- Always use silicone- and oil-free cleaners (e.g., acetone).
- Check glass hardware at regular intervals for proper positioning, smooth operation, and correct adjustment.
- High-traffic door systems require inspection by properly qualified staff (specialized companies or installation firms).
1.1.8 Disposal
Disposal in accordance with local, state, and national regulations.

3 Installation Instructions - Brush Seal
3.1 Measure for Brush Seal Carrier and Brush
Fig 11: MUTO Track Assembly Measurements
Diagram illustrates measurements for MUTO track assembly for different systems. The table provides specific measurements (A, B, C) for various MUTO models:
System | A | B | C |
---|---|---|---|
MUTO Premium XL150/80 | 1-1/4" [32] | 5/8" [15] | NA |
MUTO Premium XL120 Self-closing | 1-1/4" [32] | 5/8" [15] | NA |
MUTO Comfort L80 | 1-1/8" [28] | 5/8" [15] | NA |
MUTO Premium XL80 Telescopic | NA | 5/8" [15] | 1-1/8" [28] |
Legend for measurements:
- A: Top of glass door to bottom of track.
- B: Top of sidelite to bottom of track.
- C: Top of slow moving panel to bottom of track.
- GH: Glass door height.
- FPH: Fixed panel height.
- GH SMP: Glass height slow moving panel.
3.2 Cut Brush Seal Carrier
3.2.1 Cut brush carrier to proper length. Use one of the following equations to determine length:
- Telescopic Slow Moving Panel = GH SMP - C - floor guide
- Sliding panel = GH - A - height of U-channel
- Sidelite = FPH - B - height of U-channel
NOTE: Ensure brush and extrusion are clear of the U-channel.
3.3 Secure Brush Seal Carrier
Fig 13: Securing the Brush Seal Carrier
3.3.1 Ensure glass is clean and free of debris.
3.3.2 Peel the adhesive strip from the brush carrier and secure it to the glass in the proper location.
Diagram shows the brush seal carrier being applied to the top of the door. It indicates the U-channel height/floor guide height. The legend for measurements A, B, C, GH, FPH, GH SMP is repeated.
3.4 Install and Cut Brush
Fig 14: Installing and Cutting the Brush
3.4.1 Slide the brush into the brush carrier.
3.4.2 Cut the brush to the appropriate length.
Diagram shows the brush being slid into the carrier and then cut to length. It indicates the brush extrusion and the top of the door.
4 Installation Instructions - Bulb Seal
4.1 Secure Bulb Seal
Fig 15: Securing the Bulb Seal
4.1.1 Ensure glass is clean and free of debris.
